DS has the flu so I'm home today but hesurprisingly has turned around. We went from a cough Monday, to picking him up mid-day to high fever and labored breathing Monday night--barely slept.
Tuesday am he tested positive, lethargic, couldn't stay asleep but catnapped all day. Chest X-rays clear.
One dose of tamiflu yesterday and a good nights sleep. He had his 2nd dose this am. I know kids eat a lot, but do steroids give you energy or something? My sick 2 year old wants to clean up all the toys. "I cleanin!"
I'm so glad he's feeling better that quickly.
I ran 5 miles on the treadmill before they got up and after I drop the big kids off DS and I will clean and play. RHONY/laundry during nap.
I left work at noon yesterday because I felt awful. Went to urgent care and they told me "ya, seems like flu symptoms but we don't bother with the test because it doesn't really matter. Just drink fluids and rest." I think my fever wasn't quite high enough for them to worry. So I'm home today resting. We're launching a website this afternoon so I'll have to hop online to test that. I really hope I'm better tomorrow. I don't have anymore PTO to use after today.
Well, my company was official bought yesterday. I'm not sure what the benefits or salary is like under the new company. I'll find out more details today.
Happy Birthday! Although when I read the title my first thought was what holiday is this? Second was is that why no one in my office is here?
I think I am getting a sinus infection. I am trying not to take any unnecessary meds while pregnant, but I might have to break down and take a decongestant in order to prevent antibiotics.
campermom, I am so sorry. Hope little man feels better soon. It is amazing how fast they can recover and the energy they have. This winter has been brutal for sickness.
I'm in a terrible mood today. DS stayed home on Monday due to having a fever Sunday and Monday. Went to school yesterday. He woke up with a 101 fever this morning. He said he felt fine and when I took his temp before we left it had went down to 100. I told him the second he feels bad to call me and I'll come get him. DH is OOT and I have to work. Today is the one day this week that my mom can't come watch him, and even if she could, it's a 2 hour drive for her to get here.
I spent the entire drive to work alternating between crying over taking him to school (mom guilt) and raging at my boss for not letting us work from home. We've had it out over the whole work from home thing before. He doesn't believe in it because we're being paid to go into the office every day. Therefore if we want to work from home, we still have to use PTO. Even though my job is 99% computer based and could be done from Siberia. He says that "as management sometimes you need to do what it takes to get the job done and that includes working even when we're off." I don't disagree with this and often work extra hours in the evenings, however, if I'm being forced to use my PTO, then I'm not opening my laptop. The stupid part is that I get so much more done at home than I do at work. And when my kid's sick? Yeah, he's home with me, but he's also laying on the couch watching TV or sleeping. Is it better for me to get my work done or sit around watching Jerry Springer all day?
And, since I have less PTO than anyone else at my level, I can't use it unless it's absolutely needed. Even though I'm the only one with a husband that's gone 75% of the week and 2 kids in cesspool. I mean, elementary school. Ugh, I don't even know if this makes sense. I'm just pissed off all around.
ETA: And now I got an email from DD's KDG teacher going over the sick policy again. I thought the cut off for fever at school was 100.6. Apparently it's only 100. And I sent DS to school. I want to cry.
I have an overtime shift tonight that I'm not looking forward to. I have my rotating 4 day weekend this coming weekend, and all I can think about is sleep.

Happy Birthday!
sweetptater, I’m pissed for you. What a ridiculous argument your boss has.
Hoping all the kids and moms start to feel better soon. So far (knocking really hard on wood), we haven’t been hit by any sickness in our house. I just got the kids their flu shots last week so I have another week before it takes full effect. Fingers crossed.
Nothing big happening today. It’s the warmest day of the week and I didn’t get a run in yesterday so I’m planning that today before lunch. I also have to start working on my performance review. I hate these. I vacillate between being really self-deprecating and being over the top. Need to find middle ground.

Happy birthday divanerd! I treat my birthday like a holiday so you do you, lady!
Yesterday was a fun day. I treated myself to a new 2-in-1 laptop/tablet while I can still write it off as a business expense lol. The one perk of still being in limbo professionally. Then, I finished my beginner crossfit class! I'm down a total of 8 inches and 5% of my body fat. If I wouldn't have eaten like a fool between Thanksgiving and Christmas I'm sure those numbers would be bigger. It would also help if DD would sleep.
Prepping for meetings like a madwoman today then brother and I are headed to IL for a meeting this evening and 2, possibly 3 tomorrow. Of course DS had a low fever this morning and I'm going OOT tonight. I just hope it stays low and goes away by Friday so he can go to school. The poor kid sobbed when I told him he couldn't go to school.

sweetptater, that's absolutely ridiculous. Your boss needs to join 2018 and realize that you do not HAVE to be in the office to be productive. It's guys like that that make me scared to go work for someone else.
Drove the kids around to try to see the blood moon/partial eclipse. Nada. So dropped them at school at 7AM. Feel like a failure as people on my street posted pics - how!?!!
But upside - I am reading a really good book so I made a half caff coffee (I am usually decaf), climbed in bed and read for an hour before work. I’m over it and burned out - I will work 9 hour days but 10-12 can’t be every day.
sweetptater Do we have the same boss? I want to invite mine into the 21st century. There was no reason for me to drive in the snow a couple of weeks ago when all of my reports are online. Her reason is fairness, I believe. I'm sorry the clinics nurses can't see patients at their kitchen table, but I can get a lot done at mine.
It was a mad rush this morning. Dh and I went to the parent breakfast at Dds school, but still had to make sure we got Ds to the bus on time to get to the high school. I need more coffee.

YES WE DO! Because my boss used the same excuse! He told me it's not fair to those people who can't work from home. I told him that if anyone we hire to do manufacturing is stupid enough to think that they can MANUFACTURE DRUGS FROM HOME, then they probably shouldn't be working for us in the first place! I can do my job from anywhere. WHY NOT LET ME! I may have also thrown in a "life's not fair" (because I'm apparently my mother). It's not like I'm pushing for a 3x/week WFH schedule. I want flexibility to be able to get my work done when my kids are sick or there's a snow day. Meanwhile, I come into work on my deathbed because I need to save my PTO days for when the kids are sick.
erinshelley21, he actually did say that his wife is always telling him he needs to get into the 21st century on things like this. I told him he needs to listen to her because in this day and age people want flexibility and the resources are all available to do it.
(I should probably clarify that we manufacture pharmaceuticals, not illegal drugs

xctsclrx, I know it's gross, but get a neti pot. I found using it at least twice a day (morning and night), with saline, helped when I felt a sinus infection coming on.
sweetptater That makes me mad. Our company is a not for profit and they won't spend the money to give people laptops with the security systems in place needed to work from anywhere other than the office. Only one small department gets them because they go out to audit other businesses, so they can work from home. However we have a very very generous leave policy.
I think my cold is getting worse. Not enough to keep me home, it's just annoying. Gotta rush home after work to take over from DH. He finally booked a physio appointment to deal with the calcific tendinitis in his shoulder he was diagnosed with last year (and we're pretty sure results from a hockey incident back in early 2013). He's been complaining about it for years. You are an adult, deal with booking your own appointments. Only took him 5 years.

<snip>
+1000 to the bolded part. If a company doesn't offer it, they better expect that most of their working parents (who are in jobs where they can work from home) are looking elsewhere for a job that does offer flexibility to WFH.
I can WFH but it isn't conducive to do all the time. I will WFH if DD is sick and I have nothing pressing I have to be in the office for. Its hard to meet clients at home when my office is 30 minutes away. I try to WFH on Sunday's during tax season but am finding it to difficult to get the peace I need to work with both DH and DD constantly interrupting me. This may sound weird but when DD goes to work with me she is really good about leaving me alone and entertaining herself but when I'm at home trying to work she doesn't get that she needs to leave me be since I'm home. This tax season if DD wants to ride she is going to have to go to work with me on Saturday as riding lessons are 15 minutes from my office and I just don't want to do all the extra driving and she is totally okay with have to "work" to be able to ride.
Happy Birthday divanerd, I thought you meant all the big moon stuff as holiday
Speaking of full moon DD pulled the biggest meltdown this morning because she thought I forgot to sign her in. It was so abnormal and out of the blue I still feel a little weirded out by it. I messaged her teacher for an FYI since is was so weird just in case she did it again today.
mustardseed2007 - it was all over our neighborhood FB page at 6:45 - real time pics. I’m too short or something? I’m sure I will get an earful from the kids!
sweetptater, I completely sympathize. My boss is really big into physical presence in the office, which I find a bit odd, considering that more than half of the work I do is with our East Coast and UK teams, so I would never see them anyways. And even when I do have projects with the local teams, we are on different floors so we communicate mostly through emails/phones. There have been days that I've sat in my office for the whole day and did not have a single face to face interaction with anyone. My boss is also on a different floor and would have no idea if I'm in my office or not unless I go by his office (which I try to do).
We are set up completely to work remote. MY IT department even came to my house to help me set up the docking station and two monitors to ensure that I can work from home (for early morning/late night calls and work with the non-local teams), but the expectation is still that I come into the office during regular work hours.
I got into my office late today after DS's appointment. Turned the computer on before the lights. Stepped on something crunchy and brown. Thought it was leaf and picked it up to throw it away. It was not a leaf. It was an effing dead, crunchy cockroach. I've washed my hands, slathered in sanitizer and am still contemplating how to get my hands removed.
Holding a dead crunchy cockroach has basically set the tone of my day.

Oh my God. I’m not a bug person in general but roaches are my kryptonite. So disgusting. At least it was dead.
I just got a text from DD's riding instructor. Her horse will be going to a retirement home starting March 1st so she will not be doing lessons anymore after February as she will not be getting another horse. DD is going to be heartbroken when I tell her. I know her instructor was trying to sell us the horse a couple months ago but I don't have the time or $$$ to own a horse.
