k3am, with the power lines one good point is that you don't loose power often as those are main lines. We have a small substation behind the neighbors across the street from us. I think I've lost power twice. Last year in the big ice storm but we got it back in 2 hours while others were out for days if not longer. The other time a transformer blew (sounded like a bomb went off) they were there within 20 minutes and work until midnight but we all had power super fast for a big problem.
I live 5 minutes from a smaller airport, it isn't LA but we have some lovely 5am to Denver flights. I actually miss the plane noise when we go camping or go on vacation as I'm so used to it.
The trail would be a big perk. Go back and see what it looks like on the weekend/evenings for traffic.
Offers are due tomorrow at 1pm, so viewing opportunities are limited. It’s about 1.5 miles from our current place, so traffic changes won’t make too much difference.
I have a weird vent. I was recently featured in an article about my career and giving advice to college students. I shared it on my Facebook. The only comments it has received were from people who posted along the lines of "That photo of you is beautiful!" and "You look so good!"
THIS IS WHAT'S WRONG WITH OUR CULTURE!
I can be a career woman, highlighted for her career, and all I get are compliments on my damn headshot. WTF people.
This is why I stress about raising girls to be strong women.
That stinks! It’s one of my pet peeves as well. I’m in a local working moms FB group and today one woman posted “My absolutely adorable niece is in college and looking for a job this summer. Anyone have any leads on a job? Blah blah blah”. Not a single mention of her major, her intelligence or hardworking attitude. Literally the only adjective in the whole post was “adorable”.

My brother is still questioning ev-er-y-thing I'm doing. I appreciate his concern because it means he gives a shit and my buyout depends on him caring. But Jesus. If he tells me one more time before March that we are "running out of time" I'm going to have a really hard time remaining calm. I have a total of 7 meetings left and there are 28 working days between now and then. I will also knock 2 out in one day, maybe 3.
I also cannot wait for him to find out in about 6 months just how fucking fast 10 minutes goes when you're trying to get out the door in the morning and you also have a kid or two to care for. My favorite comment of the day was "I'm wanting to leave just 10 minutes earlier is it really that big of a deal?" Yes!
And finally, his wife is OOT for a conference so he asked if I could call and wake him up. He turned 26 today. He legit has a difficult time waking up, like alarm on his pillow and still doesn't move an inch, but don't be such an ass to the person that is getting your ass up.
My head started hurting as soon as I hung the phone up.
k3am - DH is an electrical engineer, focusing on power. He has told me that he would never want to live near high tension power lines like that. After studying them, spec-ing to install them, etc - he said NEVER.
I don’t know exactly why. There are magnetic fields surrounding them that may or may not be harmless. But he has talked about other things that I have forgotten over the years. I’m sure there’s info available.
Edited to add: I used to own a condo on a street where they were installing a 345kV line underground. DH advised me to leave as soon as feasible after the installation. It was a 1 BR so never a “forever” home, so I wasn’t overly concerned. But he was. In a big way.
mae0111, the only thing I notice is bad cell reception. Between the power lines and airport cell towers are crap in my area. I would be really interested in why...maybe something to look up while I'm trying to relax tonight.
Sunday was my niece’s baptism. DH and I were the godparents. It was a loooong afternoon of keeping the boys somewhat well behaved in public places. DS1 didn’t get a nap and it showed. Both boys wanted to be with us during the long ceremony. My sister thought she got a private room at a fancy Italian restaurant so the boys could run around a bit, but we ended up in a “semi-private” area that eventually filled up with other diners. Dinner was drawn out and DS1 was bouncing off the walls.
DS1 fell asleep as soon as he got in the car and transferred right to bed. DS2 fell asleep as soon as he got in his crib. DH and I got to watch most of the Super Bowl in peace. I was afraid that one or both of the boys would wake up super early since they went to bed early, but they actually slept in.
k3am - we have those lines along our trails too. They run perpendicular to all my running routes after the first two minutes so I don’t care and barely notice them. We never lose power and those further out often do. I grew up with them and rode my bike under them every day for years.
There was something besides the super bowl? Given that they just cancelled school on Thursday for the parade, you wouldn’t know it, lol. Fly 🦅 fly.
In all seriousness, I had a lot of things going on but my highlight was probably watching DS at circus practice. He is one of the best behaved and most respectful kids and he has shown uncharacteristic persistence in an effort to learn how to unicycle in his class’s upcoming circus performance. He has made major breakthroughs in the last few weeks and I am super proud of him.
It could be that DH’s fear stems from injuries he’d seen through the years of working with them. The injuries would only happen up close, but they stuck with him.
Our letter played on the personal things we found in the home. They had some instruments so we mentioned DD's singing and even gave them a CD. They had photography they obv had done, so we mentioned that is a passion. We tied it into the house, like "we envision X being the music room", etc. It worked well for us.
How close are they to the house? We have big power lines between our neighborhood and the next one over, but not super close to my actual house. They don't scare me, but I don't think I would want to live under them.
And of course this time ds is actually sick. He spent last night talking about how I yelled at him to go to school and made him go and asked if I was going to yell at him today. Whatever kid. Home with Dh today. I'm up if he's not better tomorrow.

Damn k3am, that is pretty. It's my dream to live off a trail like that. If you do make an offer, make sure you get a survey and examine the title commitment for any weird easements due to the trails or power lines. I love that view, though.
mustardseed2007,Our offer is in! Our agent said he wouldn't be surprised if it goes for the higher amounts the listing agent babbled about after all. Originally he wasn't sure, but he went and took another look at the house/neighborhood and comps, and that's what he came up with. We went in with a strong offer and no contingencies, but not at the very top of the range he suggested. Maybe at the end of the day, we'll end up kicking ourselves if we lose out based on $15k.
Waiting game time now until they make a decision tomorrow.
And of course there's since been several viable options listed in our target locations that all seem super small, don't have a trail, and are at the high end of our budget.
