I loved watching the game. Wore my green and let the kids stay up later.
But now they have cancelled public schools for Thursday. Which means no busing for privates. So my wish washy school can’t just make a call so sends out a survey to determine the number of kids who plan on attending. I don’t care if my kids are the only ones. I pay full tuition, you better be there. Then the restaurant that caters the lunch program canceled lunch that day. That I already paid for.
Nonsense. Absolute nonsense.
I am flexible on Thursday and can make my kids food. But what about all those parents who depend on school lunch and who don’t have a flexible schedule?
And if a miracle happens and they win again, will they make all of these same cancellations?!?!
I'm in the suburbs of a major city and school was never cancelled here for major sports wins. Might have been in the city though.
It's Tuesday night so if they are going to close they need to decide and why are they not serving lunch- the catering company? I usually have them eat at school so at the minimum I would have to make a last minute grocery run for lunch stuff.

One of the districts closed here when the Astros won the world series. I think it's like...it never happens here so people are just literally beside themselves. Having said that, our district didn't close, our private school was open and we had the catered lunch that day. I would be suuuuuper ticked if they did otherwise.
ETA: Now that I think about it though, I remember some parents were really ticked when our school district held classes.

The restaurant is closed in recognition of the win 🙄
Girl, I feel you. I have emailed our superintendent a polite yet unequivocal message that I am expecting our schools to stay open. The neighboring tiny town already announced they’re closing. Don’t be like that, schools.
My boss is very weirdly acting like he can just have his meetings on Thursday as planned. I don’t know how he thinks he’s going to get there. He rides the same train I do and it ain’t making stops anywhere near us.
sunbutter no patco stops over here either. Those trains will be expressing right through our area. Many folks seem to think they’ll be able to get on at the one stop in Camden. I wish them luck squeezing on to one of those trains.
If I hear another northerner making fun of the south for canceling schools when we get 1/4" of ice on the roads I am going to point to this lunacy. Businesses are closing, the transit authority is stopping service, and schools are closing because a team won the super bowl? What is this nonsense? (Granted it's not like the Titans are ever going to win a Super Bowl so maybe I just don't get it, but I just don't get it!)
I am confused. Why are they cancelling school and transportation for Thursday? I mean the game was Sunday. If anything it was Monday that should have been cancelled and oh one more thing. IT IS JUST A GAME! This is why people do not take school and education seriously. We are literally cancelling school for a football game? Athletics are now more important than school? It should not be a historic event. This shouldn't be a thing.
ETA: When I say we, I a mean government officials who are making policy and school boards that should absolutely be putting school first. If those people can't even do it, how do they expect parents to? ugh.
xctsclrx for the parade. Which is 11 am on a Thursday. Expecting larger crowds than the pope. I hear people with young kids going and I am confused because there is no way the majority are going to actually see anything.

Well, to be fair, they’ll see a lot of drunks and public ruination.
ETA: I see autocorrect strikes again. Should have been “public urination” but I guess either is appropriate!
That's nuts. I don't think they've cancelled school in Boston for our parades. There obviously people who skip school that day and keep their kids out to go to the parade, but it's not an endorsed, official thing!
I don’t think schools here (burbs) close for stuff like that.. maybe in the city? I know they change up the train schedules. And lots of people call out sick. But we also only ever win at baseball because 49ers.

I'm confused how canceling public transportation in a town that depends on public transportation makes any kind of sense. How are people supposed to get to the parade if they want to go? Let alone get to work? That part is really weird.
The same kind of debate went on with the world series parade (ie school closures and such), but they added bus service to make it easier to get to the parade, they didn't cancel them save and except rerouting service that would have gone down the parade route.
ETA: I too legit lol at drunkenness and ruination!!
Speaking of parades. My 13 year old was in one this past weekend and I was responsible for drop of and pick up. It was the most pitiful parade I had ever seen. There wasn't any music until the band came through (at the very end) Long waits between floats and the people in the parade looked like they had no interest in being there. occasionally you would get a handful of candy tossed at you.
mustardseed2007 they are running from locations further out but not stopping at our stations. Probably because they assume the cars will all be full already. So now people are driving 10 miles out of the city to board, then travel by their house on their way into center city.

This.
Plus, they may actually be trying to make it difficult to attend. There’s no risk that too few people will show. There’s a huge risk that the city will be overwhelmed by 3million people trying to get a spot on the parade route.
