I've never gone away. (From the family) Only once for work, but that was for work.
My husband deploys all the time or leaves for trips (for work) all the time. But he will spend months away sometimes.
I've decided to plan a weekend away with friends. It will be after my next half marathon and right after he is gone for a period of time. Right near Mothers Day. I'm not sure if I want to go to Atlantic City or Omni Bedford Springs PA. (Ever been?)
The two things I'd like to do are to eat at a buffet and get a spa package.
Have you gone on girls weekends? How much did you spend? What did you do? Any suggestions?
Yes, I do two girls weekends most years, with different friends. The last one I brought a baby since he was only a few months old
Because I have three kids 5 and under and I also travel a lot for work, when I go away for personal fun, I do it Thursday-Saturday. I highly recommend that if you can take two days of vacation. That way DH is only on his own for one full weekend day (since the kids are in school/daycare Thurs/Fri), and I feel less guilty leaving everyone since I still get to see my kids one weekend day (and I have Sunday to regroup for the following work week). My child free friends have even gotten on board with this schedule since it’s so nice to still have some part of your weekend when you get back.
I’ve done a few different locations for trips, mostly wine related or beach/pool. A normal itinerary is drop kids Thursday morning, fly out of drive to destination, get settled and have a nice dinner, Friday an activity like either wine tasting or spa day, Saturday maybe a hike or something, have lunch, fly or drive home that evening. My friends and I often do a puzzle too . It’s a nice way to just hang around the place (usually an Airbnb or vrbo condo with a couple bedrooms) and relax and catch up.
I did a girls trip to Sedona for my 40th birthday. I spent generously as it was my birthday present to myself. We only could carve two nights out because we all work but it was lovely. We ate delicious southwestern food, drank smokey cocktails, hiked for hours, contemplated vortexes, and had awesome massages. I dream of going again.
Do it! I do 2-4 a year. The cheapest are lake house rentals and are spent in sports shorts and T-shirts. We’ve done spendy. I’m usually happiest middle of the road where I can splurge (on a new swimsuit or a spa treatment). I do two days/one night or three days/two nights.
I've done 3 weekends away. Two were just mom and sister and was just their hobby and me tagging along but we stayed at a hotel. The other one was similar to the lake house idea. Renting a house with all of us was ended up being really cheap and then we did a tourist type activity during the day. It was driveable for all of us.
My sister did say she adds 1 day to her trips every year. So the first year with young kids was 1 day next year trip was 2 days. I think she's been gone 5-6 days at the most now- kids are much older.
Yes my girls weekends are becoming priceier as we go. 2 years ago we rented a cabin for 3 days and hung out, it was around $250.
In November one of the girls got married in Las Vegas so we did 4 days there but husbands could tag along. Because of this trip we did summer camp at a friend's house and spent a weekend complete with slip n slides & bounce house. We went old school summer camp and had a blast. This weekend was a food and booze only deal so fairly cheep.
In June we are doing Florida for one of the girls' birthday. We've rented a house on airbnb and are flying out. Im going to be around $700 into it when all said and done. We fly out at 6 AM on Thursday and return Sunday evening at 8PM
