My weekend was pretty good. DD's boyfriend came over Friday so the three of us watched a documentary on mail order brides. He seems like a nice kid. Saturday was random errands with DS and binge watching Nailed It on Netflix. So fucking funny! Yesterday, I took DS to the Timberwolves game and then his team got to play on the Target Center court, which was super cool. DS thanked me a ton for taking him and for giving him "the best day ever." He also ditched me, at the game, to hang with his friends. And so it begins!
Yesterday the time change wasn't that bad until it was time to go to sleep. Now I feel like I have monster bags under my eyes. Ugh.
I went to a housewarming party on Saturday and was hit on by two different guys with two different approaches. It remains to be seen if anything will come from any of it, but it was fun regardless. Friday I went out with a friend also. I have needed to schedule more down time lately to try to recharge.
I had an interesting conversation with the cop about how to accept and handle the idea that one's job is dangerous. There was a news story that had me dealing with that and he was helpful. Mostly it was nice to be able to talk openly with someone about it instead of having to worry that it would bring them down too. It led me to refresh myself on existential psychotherapy's view of the crisis of death, which was very helpful combined with what he'd told me.
It was a great weekend! Got a speeding ticket on Friday, so that wasn't awesome, but the rest of the weekend was spectacular.
Saturday, I got all dressed up and hit the gala which was super fun. Then I went to my local and mwt up with some friends, I was still dressed up so as soon as I walked in one of them was all "whoa!". I had a great time. Sunday we recovered.

Weekend was productive! I FINALLY signed up for my photography class and completed laptop research. I bought it on the fly; it was recommended by the salesperson and it was the last day of the sale. I figured given I had 15 days to return it I could do my research after the fact but I should take advantage of the sale price. I was so glad I talked to her as my research told me it'd be perfect AND it was $800 cheaper than the one I was going to get. The hardware and features are all the same, it's just bigger and a pound heavier which is fine.
I also went through my filing cabinet and a box of random papers. I'm embarrassed to say I filled two garbage bags full of shredded documents PLUS an entire recycling bin full of stuff. I found receipts from 11 years ago. Oops. But now it's all organized so YAY!
Saturday night a friend came over and we ordered Chinese and split a bottle of wine. It was fun.
I didn't fall asleep until nearly 2am. WTF? I typically go to bed by 11, so I'm not sure how to blame a 1 hour time change on a 3 hour sleep difference. I brewed ALL the coffee this morning.
The weekend was pretty good. M and I went out Friday night for dinner and it was one of those evenings where we just sat and chatted for forever.
I test drove trucks on Saturday morning and have narrowed down what I want to 2 different makes/models. I'm just going to online search and order up whatever meets my criteria - I don't care if it's local or if I have it shipped in (I've seen things 4-5 hours away that are a couple grand cheaper than my local options, so I definitely think it'd be worth either driving or paying for delivery in that case).
Owen managed to lose a shoe in the muddy field Saturday afternoon, so he is walking all clip-thud clip-thud on one bare foot until his farrier comes out this afternoon to fix him up. That also means I got to slip and slide through the entire muddy field to find the darn shoe, because with my luck, someone (likely my horse) would step on the nails and injure themselves if it was left out there.
I barely got out of bed yesterday. It was delightful. Work has been the suck lately, so I did a whole lot of online retail therapy (err...a new saddle arrives on Thursday. Not the least bit sorry). At least we finished our taxes, and know that our tax refund is going to cover the bulk of the costs of the new HVAC system.
chalupa , what saddle did you get? You know I like all the pretty things!!
As long as it fits us both, I got a steal of a deal on my first dressage saddle. It's a used Passier Optimum.
I also placed an order from the UK for some LeMieux items, which are hard to find state-side
new cross country boots:
new saddle pads (I give up - the images are determined not to show up)
And of course, new girth/leathers/stirrups for new saddle. And a new breastplate. And breeches for myself, while I was placing a big order. LOL.
To make it marginally justified, I put together a HUGE pile of things I need to sell at an upcoming tack swap and signed up for a seller's table there. I didn't know I had so much unused stuff until I went through my closet/basement/garage. Breeches I hate, Larry-sized things that are too small for Owen, old cross country vest and saddle pads...
I had a great weekend, pretty chill Friday with going to a yoga class. Saturday was hanging with friends and watching some rugby and grocery shopping. Sunday was the home opener for Atlanta United! It was so much fun. Our team broke the MLS attendance record. 72k people. It was so loud and exciting.
In healthy news I’m down almost 12lbs and made an awesome chicken stir fry with cauliflower rice.
Oh! I need ideas from the group. I'm making sweet potato apple soup tonight and need to come up with a protein to have with it. I have chicken breasts but am not sure how to prepare them. I could just cook them in the crock pot and shred them up, but I'd like to come up with something a little more interesting.
The flavors in the soup are obviously sweet potato, apple, onion, garlic, and maple syrup. It's a really nice balance, not too sweet. Any ideas?
Thursday was the funeral for two boys, ages 12 & 14, who were murdered by their father in a murder/suicide case. I know the mother and feel so heartbroken for her.
Saturday I worked in the AM and then started a massive purging of my closet. I did not finish so my bedroom looks like a disaster zone but it will get there.
Then yesterday was a baby shower for my niece that lasted waaaaaaay to long. My niece's cousin is loud as fuck and never stops talking about herself. My mom got so annoyed by her that she turned her hearing aids off. I wish I had that option
The weekend was good. Date with new guy was awesome, were seeing each other again tomorrow. It also felt FUCKING AMAZING to deep clean parts of the apartment. Some things are already rearranged. He still has some things to move but it is a great start.
I too feel weird with daylight savings. This morning was rough!
Weekend was okay. Busy, but got a few things done that needed to be accomplished. Including taking a carload of stuff to Goodwill. I’m all about donating instead of trying to have a yard sale this year.
I got to work at 6:45 this morning and have been super productive until now. I’m thinking about leaving my laptop at work tonight and just enjoying a complete night off.
tiramisu, I think I would actually do a roasted pork loin with that. Rosemary garlic seasoning, maybe? You could get one of the pre-marinated ones from the store, too.
Add me to the list of people dragging today. I woke up at like 3:30 am this morning and had a bear of a time falling back asleep. It was a pretty good weekend, though...got my cold weather seeds planted in the garden and my warm weather seeds planted inside. DH and I cleaned up the house a bit. He also came back all clear on his colonoscopy (yay). And we splurged and went out for both brunch and dinner yesterday! I need to get off my butt and actually cook something now! I'm leaning toward braised lamb with a fennel citrus salad...yummmm.
