W's school principal sent out an email encouraging us to talk to our kids about the National Walk Out day today. I don't even know what to say to him. What have you discussed with your kindergartner? Elementary teachers, any insight/resources?
It is heartbreaking that this has to be a thing that we have to address with 5-6yr olds!

I had no idea how to discuss it with L. We talked about it when the flags were at half mast. I told him sometimes people do bad things and someone brought a gun to school. We talked about how that is wrong and we never take weapons to school, and we always listen to our teacher in case it is an emergency and she is trying to protect me. It was a very fine line between trying not to scare him and keeping him informed. He told me he wanted to grow up to be a real life superhero like the police #swoon.
Our school did not address it at all. The public school gave a walk out option, as well as a walk up option, no one was forced to participate, or punished for participating.
