Does anyone else have to procure maintenance medications from a mail order pharmacy? Ours is Optum and beat down doesn’t even begin to describe the administrative nightmare they are. 90 day supplies sounds great but it isn’t.
Has anyone price shopped their mandatory mail order program versus paying out of pocket in their local pharmacy?
2chatter, would your local pharmacy be able to give you a 90 day supply? My local pharmacy (a small local chain) gave me a 90 day supply without me even asking. I didn't have to do anything. They called the dr for me to get a 90 day script.
They can, I just don’t know about price. And I don’t want to have to get a price for all six maintenance meds for us from both the mail order and the pharmacy. And don’t get me started that four of the six are the same drug that doesn’t come in the prescribed mg, so it’s two RXs, which are of course not the same price. Calculating by mg I can’t figure out how they determine the price. I just know that, for even numbers, 50mg was $30 at the grocery pharmacy, then the dose changed to 35 mg and we switched to the mail order. A 15mg is $20 and a 20 mg is $40. So I now literally pay double for net less medication.
Does anyone else feel like they need an admin to handle medical stuff? The oral surgeon charged us $90 and the fee per the EOB was $70 and our portion was $14. Instead of a credit to the surgery they will mail a check, possibly after the surgery. Because I called them not to mail a bloody check. It’s a beat down to review and monitor and stay on top of all of this! Braces - for one child - ranged from $3500 - $7600. That’s a WILD price difference for the exact same procedures and timeline. The second doctor issued a price correction - UP - when we asked them why they were so much more. I just can’t even y’all.
My insurance company gave us the choice between mail order and pharmacy. I tried mail order because they talked it up but it also sucked. At least I could still use my insurance at the local pharmacy though.
I have price checked various drugs. GoodRx.com I think was one website, and they have a savings card but it didnt work for me because it only works if you don't have insurance. I have also gotten coupons. Sometimes the pharmacist has coupons too. I have also switched to generics if possible.
Yes we too neeed an admin to manage medical bills. It's crazy!
HeartofCheese - so, I can relate. I started sleeping in my workout clothes. It fixed all my issues - shower, too much effort to get a sports bra on, too hard to find what I want to wear, impossible to choose, etc. I know I sound like a nutcase but it works! I went to the gym this morning!
what can I hid augmentin in? My 14 month old doesn't want to take it. it's berry flavored. he also doesn't like to be fed by a spoon - so ....
I'm thinking I might be able to get him to do some chocolate pudding.
Is it liquid or a pill youre crushing up? If he doesn't have to take a lot, I've been putting dd's vitamin in a pb&j. How is he taking food from your older DD? My DD will eat anything from a spoon being held by her brother.

it's liquid and 4 ML twice a day - so it's a decent amount. DD1 is on spring break this week so I'll see if she can get him to take it. otherwise I'm sending it to daycare and our provider can work her magic. lol
callmekd, ugh that stuff is gross. We had to convince DS that medicine was going to make him feel better so his ear didn't hurt. The pain he was in was enough to convince him not to argue. Plus we did it in a syringe and shot it to the back of his throat. GOOD LUCK!

If you get desperate, try putting it in milk with a sprinkle of sugar. When DS had an ear infection and wouldn't take amoxicillin, SIL told me to put it in milk with vanilla and sugar. I hated doing it, but he needed the medicine. I'm thinking since it's flavored you can get by without the vanilla.
