I'm pissed. I contacted my insurance company about the bill I got for my postpartum checkup. They're treating me like an idiot and not addressing my concerns. They said they didn't deny the claim, that my benefits reset and this appointment was partially covered and the rest applied to my deductible for this year. Duh. I know that. Why won't they tell me why a stupid 6 week checkup isn't fully covered? Isn't this standard care that should be covered under the ACA? I'm so confused why I'm responsible for so much. We can't afford this right now, especially because H thinks we need a $400+ part for his car. And we start paying for A in daycare next week. I shouldn't be stressing this much over a stupid doctor's appointment!!
My post partum check ups were not fully covered. They had the same partial coverage as my other maternity care (like 90/10 or whatever). Hopefully someone else has a more informed answer, but I thought the rules were that they offer some coverage in specific areas, not full coverage in all those areas. That is what my quick google search seems to indicate.
All I'm finding is specific to prenatal care and delivery, nothing about postnatal care. I can never find anything on their website either so I had no idea I'd be paying this much. With E the birth and checkup were in the same year so I never got a bill, so I don't know if it was because I met my deductible or because it was covered (I had different insurance at the time). I put money into an FSA for fillings I need but I might not be able to do that now if we keep getting bills like this! Ugh!

So many ((Hugs)). It’s frustrating to get medical bills you aren’t expecting.
My expectation would be that the coverage would be what it is for prenatal care. For our old insurance (which we purposely switched to because it’s nearly “free” to have a baby...I think we paid a $20 copay for all prenatal and PP (but maybe had a PP copay of $20?) and $250/delivery). I am not sure what our new insurance would be but I would expect to pay much much more...the coverage isn’t nearly as good as what we had before.

estrellita you likely need to look at your actual insurance breakdown. This will likely be covered under prenatal care so look at that line item in your insurance plan. If your plan says something like 100% coverage after deductible is met that is why you have the bill you have as you dedictible likely hasnt been met yet. If you cant find this information contact the HR department the insurance plan is through.
Unfortunately with the affordable care act and incredibly high deductible health care is not truly affordable as these deductibles are outrages and some basic care such as lab work, radiology, and even certain dctors visits are not covered at all until the deductible is reached.
I don't have a tremendous knowledge about insurance but enough to decipher some things. You can PM me if you have specific questions.

melsamoony Makes sense.. I asked them to direct me to the maternal care info because I can never find anything. I guess I assumed that it was lumped in with the prenatal care but who knows. Hopefully they can direct me to the right info so I can understand it better!

WWWCD...L is acting completely normal...sleeping well again, running around like crazy. He still has a runny noise and cough though and a wheeze developed Thursday evening that comes and goes but is pretty persistent. He doesn’t seem to be bothered by it though. We went to the lake this morning and he played at the park. He got too overworked, came home to do a breathing treatment, and his wheeze was still pretty bad while doing nap time (again, doesn’t seem affected by it).
pooh8402awick14. Any others welcome to chime in. If it were a weekday I would probably just call but not sure I can get in touch with anyone today.
estrellita DD started teething early (3 months) and didn’t have teeth until 8-9 months. I hope As teething doesn’t last that long. And ((Hugs)) dealing with insurance always sucks.
And sorry I’m late to your post. I hope L is feeling much better. I would see how he does over the course of the rest of the day. If the wheeze gets worse I would either call in or take him to urgent care if you think he’s having a lot of trouble. (I have no idea how the system works down there though, do you have a 24 hr nurses line there? If so maybe call it.)
I haven’t been checking it very much because I normally check in at work but I supposibly went through 95% of my data in the first 2 1/2 weeks of this billing cycle and now I have only a little data until April 9th. Urg!
We are in our hometown for Easter and then next week as well. DD is loving playing with her cousins and seeing her grandparents.
Although it’s like she knows that I mentioned completely weaning her when we get home because she is now refusing to take a bottle from me and she is wanting to breast feed 3-4x/day now. (When she was only feeding 1x a day, and possibly miss 1 day here and there if I’m working and can’t feed her. My supply is basically nonexistent and she doesn’t seem to care.)
((Hugs)) awick14. Maybe let her comfort nurse when she wants (assuming you are ok with that)? I have no idea what to do there. That had to be really hard and frustrating.
Thank you! He had a very small wheeze at bedtime last night (I have a feeling his cold is in his lungs). He seems completely unaffected by the wheeze. I am hoping we can make it through today and then call the pediatrician tomorrow. I don’t think we have a 24 hour nurse line. I would have to take him to urgent care and would worry about him picking up the flu or something there (obviously if his breathing becomes critical we will go straight there...but for now no retractions or shortness of breath).
Have fun being in your hometown!! I saw pictures on FB yesterday and it looks like you are having a great time!
Grrr.. how do you deal with grandparent preference? E says he likes my parents and not H's. This isn't the first time he's said this. I told him that wasn't very nice and that both sets of grandparents love him very much. I know MIL is self conscious about this because though both sets spoil him, my parents have been able to do more both financially and physically. I never want it to be a competition and I'm afraid he is going to say something to them that's really going to hurt their feelings. As I'm typing this he again told me he likes my mommy and daddy and I said "yes, you like daddy's mommy and daddy too." He said yes, but it's making me sad that he is saying these things WWYD?
