So Julian has been waking up like 5-7 times a night lately and I was wondering for those of you who aren't sleep training and have babies not STTN do you feed your LO everytime they wake? My sister-in-law says she gives her DS water all night because he wakes up every hour or two. I usually try to soothe him back to sleep with his binky and asspatting but if it doesn't work I give him a bottle.

I first start by patting her on the butt. If that doesn't work I'll pick her up and bounce/rock her. If all else fails I nurse her back to sleep. She used to always take the boob if I offered, but now if she's not hungry she'll spit it out.
If G wakes up on his stomach and cant roll himself over, he starts crying immediately and nursing him back to sleep is the easiest thing to do, even if he ate recently. If he wakes up on his side or back, I offer him his silkie or sophie, and he often falls back asleep immediately and then I remove the silkie. If he doesn't fall asleep or his fussing turns into crying, then I nurse him.

When DD woke I always nursed her because nothing else worked and I learned the longer I tried something else the more awake she got. She'd be up 2 hours some nights. DS goes right back to sleep with the paci.

I give him his paci then leave the room. If he still fusses I do a new diaper then I leave the room. If he still fusses I assume he's hungry and try to feed him. Food is always offered last. He used to sleep through the night so I know he can go all night without food but I never know if he's growth spurting or whatever and really does need more.
I try the paci first, but he usually wants to eat. He nurse like I starved him all day (which obviously is not the case). He is going through a growth spurt, but I am exhausted. I have an appt with the pedi and the Lactation Consultant on Monday to get some advice. I cannot continue to work on such little sleep, so something has to change, without sacrificing his needs.

Lou has been waking up now in the middle of the night too. I try to put him down without a bottle, but if he does that yelping cry. I call it his hungry cry, then nothing will settle him until he is fed.
