Holy crap! It's April already! March was not a great reading month.
I read What Happened 5* I really enjoyed hearing her talk about all the things I already knew and some things I didn't. I mentioned before that I cried a lot out of anger and sadness. And James Comey can eff off!
I had a surprisingly good reading month, usually I have more 3 star ratings than anything else but this month had lots of 4 stars!
2.5 Stars The Ugly Duchess by Eloisa James
3 Stars Naked in Death by J.D. Robb
3.5 Stars The Blood of Emmett Till by Timothy B. Tyson Pestilence by Laura Thalassa
4 Stars Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology by Leah Remini Dear Martin by Nic Stone The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women by Kate Moore A Rule Against Murder (#4 in series) by Louise Penny love this series The Dry by Jane Harper Devil's Paw (#4 in series) by Debra Dunbar Burn Bright (#5 in series) by Patricia Briggs
5 Stars Love in the Afternoon (#5 in series) by Lisa Kleypas I recommend this whole series, though the first book is the weakest
I read a lot more than usual because I spent a week away while on Spring Break.
American War by Omar El Akkad 4.5* (this was the hardest to rate) The Daughters of Palatine Hill by Phyllis T. Smith 3.5* The Flight Attendant by Chris Bohjalian 4* An America Marriage 4* Her Every Fear by 2*
I think I would be most likely to recommend the Flight Attendant because it's a decent, quick thriller. American War was well done but haunting.
My (not so) Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella 3* (so stupid, but I wanted something light after the Great Alone)
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks 4*
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara 5* - This one will be with me for a while, and put me into a pretty bad depression for a few days. I would recommend it, but not to anyone who has dealt with sexual abuse.
I'm on track to hit my goal for the year (14/50). Pretty proud of myself since I usually average maybe 10 books a year. It's been good for me to step away from the news and social media to read more.

Kindle/physical books: Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella **** I needed something light after two super heavy, emotional books in a row.
Opal by Maggie Stiefvater ***** This novella is part of the Raven Cycle
Prisoner of Azkaban ***** Going through a series reread
Still Me by Jojo Moyes **** I really liked this book and thought it was a good ending to the trilogy
Audiobooks: The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin *** This was a really interesting premise and I find myself thinking what I would do in this situation but overall it played out just okay.
China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan **** I am absolutely loving this series. It is so entertaining. The next in the series just came in from the library so I should be able to start that this week.
Little Women - Louisa May Alcott - 3* The Bright Hour - A Memior of Living and Dying - Nina Riggs - 4.5* (“fun” fact - since her death and publication of her book, her husband and the wife of Paul Kalanithi - who wrote When Breath Becomes Air - have been in touch and fell in love with each other) Borderline - Mishell Baker - 2.5* Where The Mountain Meets the Moon - Grace Lin - 3.5* The Vegetarian - Han Kang - 2.5* Bluebird, Bluebird - Attica Locke - 4*
Scenes from the Hallway (Knitting in the City series 6.5) by Penny Reid -- 4/5* Marriage of Inconvenience (Knitting in the City series 7) by Penny Reid -- 4/5* All the Good Parts by Loretta Nyhan -- 3/5* Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie -- 4/5* Crazy for You by Jennifer Crusie -- 2/5* Fast Women by Jennifer Cruise -- 3/5* The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory -- 2/5*

16. The Scottish Play Murder by Anne Rutherford - 4**** 17. The Rubber Band by Rex Stout - 5***** 18. The Red Box by Rex Stout - 5***** 19. The Second Mrs. Giaconda by E.L. Konigsburg - 4**** 20. Murder in Morningside Heights by Victoria Thompson - - 4****
I really enjoyed the Rex Stout Nero Wolfe mysteries. I am so glad I finally decided to read them. The Second Mrs. Giaconda wasn't exactly what I was expecting based on the blurb, but it did make me want to look up more about daVinci and Salai. The Scottish Play Murder was a fun read; I'm sorry I can't find the third and last in that series. I love the author's historical notes at the end where she mentions she knows that The Globe Theater was not where she had it when she set the books, but she doesn't care, that's what fiction means! Murder in Morningside Heights was a good solid entry in the series -- it was a pretty good mystery, though as I mentioned in a Friday post, it did seem to push an anachronistic agenda and that bothers me a bit.

One Step Too Far by Tina Seskis - 2 stars - I think this was a kindle first book and I literally can't remember a single thing about it, and the info. for it on goodreads is in another language so can't even jog my memory at the moment. What Was Mine by Helen Ross Klein - 3 stars - kidnapping story I couldn't relate to at all. The Dark Tower by Stephen King - 5 stars - Finally finished rereading the whole series, and loved it just as much as the first time. The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro - 4 stars - I had high expectations for this, and while reading it I felt like it wasn't as good as I was expecting, but it really stayed with me. The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks - 2 stars - really disappointing. The Lying Game by Ruth Ware - 3 stars - This was for my irl book club. It was pretty disappointing. Always by Sarah Jio - 3 stars - interesting concept but poor writing. The Stolen Marriage by Diane Chamberlain - 4 stars - my first by Diane Chamberlain but I am an instant fan and will be reading more of hers for sure!
Cause of Death by Patricia Cornwell 3* The Husband’s Secret (audio) by Liane Moriarty 4* The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See 4* Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng 5* Daddy’s Girl by Lisa Scottoline 4* Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by JK Rowling 5* illustrated edition, read as a family since Christmas Still Life (audio) by Louise Penny 4*
The Bright Hour - A Memior of Living and Dying - Nina Riggs - 4.5* (“fun” fact - since her death and publication of her book, her husband and the wife of Paul Kalanithi - who wrote When Breath Becomes Air - have been in touch and fell in love with each other)
That's so great! I did read When Breath Becomes Air so that's really great to hear! Thanks for sharing!

expectantsteelerfan I was underwhelmed with The Lying Game also (I think it was rec'd on ML here). Silly story: I looked and it was available from our library to borrow for the kindle, so I downloaded it. I was kinda confused, because when I began reading it, it was about a teen but I went with it....turns out I read The Lying Game, book 1 of 6 in a series by Sara Shepard (author of the Pretty Little Liars Series).
kelliebeans104 I read the 3 books in the Crazy Rich Asians series in January and really enjoyed them, my favorite was China Rich Girlfriend.
