I dunno how I feel about this. It could be really good, but I felt ACOWAR was a nice conclusion to that particular story line (I didn't love the book, but she did a good job wrapping up some loose ends while leaving some story lines open.) I just feel like this is going to walk back some of that.
So I was kind of meh on the first and third books, but I loved the crap out of the second book. So I'm nervous about the fourth one LOL! I think I will probably wait to see what reviews/ratings people give it before I pick it up. I could stop at the third book since it did tie up enough loose ends to not drive me crazy with a cliffhanger.
I did decide to skip the Chaol book but I will pick up the next Aelin-centric TOG book.
I'm chomping at the bit! I just finished book 3 and am having post book hangover.
I was meh on the first half of book 1, really got into the second half, loved book 2, and liked book 3.
I was a fan of the way most things in the series were wrapped up--but there were so many interesting characters in the story, that I would definitely welcome the spin offs from their POV.
If SJM wanted to take the book to a second trilogy, I'd be interested in the rebuilding of the courts and exploring the development of uniting the high and lesser fae.
Whaaaaat. I definitely thought it would only be a trilogy! There were things I liked a lot and things I was meh about in the series as a whole, but I was also pretty bummed it was over. I have no idea what else she could write about, though, and make it actually be good and make sense in the canon of the rest of the series.

msmerymac, Maas says the trilogy stands on its own. These other releases are novellas. She said each of three couples will have a novella. She indicated this first one is Feysand, the second is Nessian. I can't remember if she indicated who the last novella belongs to.

I thought the next book wasn’t a part of the 3 novellas. I think she called it a bridge between the original trilogy and the 3 couple novellas.

Wait - who’s Feysand? Why don’t I remember that name?

I'm glad she's doing 1 more from Rhys and Feyre's POV before her 3 spinoffs.
I hope TOG 7 doesn't get pushed back anymore. I need a conclusion!
I think that’s out in September. It has a title Now but I can’t remember - i was poking around on her site yesterday lol. I kind of figure once there’s a set title the release date is pretty solid.

pisces, I am too. I read the first books all in a row last winter/spring, and so I was a little burnt out after those, but I'm ready for closure now. I hope she wraps up things completely.

I plan on rereading all 7 books in September. I have no idea how she’s going to wrap up all the loose ends in 1 book. I guess she won’t be able to drag everything out (Aelin/coffin and Manon/Cochran witches storyline is what I’m thinking of) because eventually she will have to get everybody back together for 1 final battle, right? 🤷🏼♀️

Yeah she has a lot to wrap up and honestly by the end of Empire of Storms I was kind of meh on the whole series. There was a lot going on. I felt kind of like I did with the Mortal Instruments series where by the end there were just so many characters and stuff I didn't fully understand and I couldn't see how the end was going to happen in 500 pages, lol.
I don't really want to re-read the whole TOG series before October but I am sure going to need a cliff notes version of the previous books before reading the final one. It's been a good series but it was about 2 books too long.
I read it and was SO disappointed. NOTHING happened.
Here is my goodreads review.
This book however....UGH. Reminded me of a horrible semi-animated Disney princess short that my daughter has. Belle just has to find the perfect gift for the Beast. If you want to torture yourself, check it out (Disney Princess Stories: Volume One - A Gift From the Heart "The Big Surprise--I'd give a link, but it's so terrible no one bothered to put it on You Tube)
Beyond the realization that there was little to no plot in the book, I also felt that the setting somehow felt more modernized that the books in the trilogy. Let's start talking about budgets and how much money we have. And my townhouse is just too small. Just a normal couple here, living the American Dream. I wouldn't have been surprised if Feyre had whipped out a cell phone.
Next biggest point of contention: Our bad ass heroine decides that at 21 years old, a year or so into her immortal life she's ready to start popping out babies and designing her Barbie Dream House. Seriously?
I gave it 2 stars because I'm invested in the characters and DID actually enjoy the sneak peek into the next book, but this one left much to be desired. I'm STILL waiting for SOMETHING to happen.
Yeah, that was disappointing. If you haven't bought it, don't. Probably you don't even need to read it before the next books in the trilogy. Overall it reminded me of why I don't like novellas...this was just a long epilogue for me. Nothing substantial happened, everyone has PTSD and is not dealing with it, so here's another vague rehash of everyone's personal hang ups but no forward movement. The only good thing was the sneak peak into Nesta's book. At least that gives me hope that the rest of the books may be good again, if only because they have an actual plot!
Slightly off topic, I did finally read Tower of Dawn a month or so back, and I did enjoy it! I didn't think I would, Chaol doesn't interest me too much and I didn't think I would like a book completely without Aelin after all the others have been from her POV, but it was interesting and the plot lines of learning about another country/continent in that world and how their political system works and interacts with the others kept my attention. There was also some info revealed that affects the overall book plot, so I would at least read a cliff notes if you don't want to read this book before the final one comes out this fall! Or just ask those of us who read for spoilers as we approach release date!

I really liked Tower of Dawn, too! I was very surprised by that. I put off reading it forever but since reviews were good I gave it a shot. Lots of plot advancement and character development. Both things that ACOFAS does not have. I agree that it is totally skippable and I wish I hadn’t pre-ordered an over-priced novella.

Yeah, it was filler but I didn’t mind it. I love reading about people celebrating holidays and giving each other presents, and I enjoyed the Cassian and Morrigan POV chapters. So who do we think the three next books are about?
1. Nesta and Cassian 2. Lucien, Vassa, and Jurian (the Band of Exiles - I mean, they already have their own name, they must be getting a book right?) 3. Morrigan?
Ditto everyone else. I was not thrilled with this novella at all. I am looking forward to the Nesta/Cassian book.
scribellesam, I think you're on the right track. She's definitely angling for an Elaine, Lucien, Az triangle somewhere though so I wonder if the Band of Exiles will take a backseat to that (or who am I kidding, she'll just add another book.)

Ugh, yeah, my brain keeps blocking out the Elain/Lucien mating thing because I’m super uninterested in it. My hope is that she’s setting up for Elain/Az to end up together to show that mating bond should not trump compatibility. A whole book of Elain’s Moping sounds sooo dull though.
