I'm not a big drinker, but I like to have something when we go out to a nice dinner. We're going out for our anniversary this weekend and it's a BYOB Italian place that does a tasting menu of about 8-10 small courses. The sample menu includes polenta with sausage, stuffed peppers, shrimp, steak pizziola, salad in a bread bowl-type thing, and some other items. We went there last year as well but I couldn't drink at the time. MH will probably bring some of his fancy craft beer so it's just going to be me drinking whatever I get.
Any wine recommendations?
I don't want to spend a lot, because I don't know the difference. And it'll just me drinking it so I may not finish the whole bottle. Something in the $20 or less neighborhood would be best. I don't like red wine.
I like pinot grigio.
What about a prosecco?
I used to just buy a bottle of Yellowtail pinot grigio whenever I wanted some wine, but the last couple times I bought it I didn't care for it. IDK if they changed it, or if my taste changed, but I didn't enjoy it.
I like the Ruffino Pinot Grigio but I recently tried the Ruffino Orvieto Classico and I like it better. It IS $2 more a bottle, so the $10.99 might be to steep for some.

I would look for an Italian pinot grigio. I don't know why, but I don't care for Californian or other pinots. That is usually my only criteria in picking one off the shelf. I think $16 is the most I've ever spent on a pinot grigio.
I love bubbly, but not something I'd want to drink through a 10 course meal.

What about a rose? I worked in a *very* high end restaurant and Beringer White Zin was one of the most popular bottles on our wine list. It's pretty cheap and very popular. My favorite rose is by a company called Unruly. They can pretty much do no wrong in my win-o book - I've never had a bad bottle from them.

Based on what you shared re the sample menu (polenta with sausage, stuffed peppers, shrimp, steak pizziola) I would go with a light Italian red. Pinot grigio and prosecco would be great with the shrimp and salad but won't be able to stand up to the meats, and the taste of both the wine and the food will be diminished. Chianti is really food friendly, and you can definitely find something good for $20-25 (it's your anniversary so I'm rounding up 🙂).
You could also give the restaurant a call and ask what their favorites are with the menu - you might get some interesting suggestions.
