About 3 weeks ago I decided to refill our bird feeder. It is located on a burm and we have a retaining wall there that you have to climb up in order to access anything in the burm. Well I decided it would be a good idea to jump off of the retaining wall, it isn't that high. When I landed I immediately heard something pop and couldn't stand. I screamed for my husband, thankfully he was working from home. Anyway as it turns out, I have a torn ACL. My surgeon can't perform the surgery for 3 weeks; however, one of my daughters graduates from college the very next week. Then another child is coming out to visit 3 weeks after that. We live on the west coast and all of my family is either in NC or Texas. Yesterday it hit me how much longer I am going to be limping around and it sucks. I have to be careful and not pivot. You should see me in the shower or getting in and out of the truck or even going to the bathroom.
Ugh. I'm sorry. Maybe it will improve without surgery? My mom tore her ACL earlier this year when my dog crashed into her at full speed and it healed without surgery. The Dr had her wear a brace for several weeks instead. Good luck!
scout8, - it's beyond that. And you should see me avoiding Rocket. I make him go down the stairs first and I move completely over when opening the door to let him out. Thank you though.

Hey, do you have a strong brace you can use in the meantime? It might not help with the pain, but it will help keep your leg from giving out, leading to additional pain. Are you using a cadaver or your own parts for replacement? Do you have a choice? DH has had both, and he said the cadaver recovery was much easier. I'm sorry you tore your ACL. That's going to be a tough recovery.
CrazyLucky,- I won't get a brace until after my surgery. I am doing okay and am super careful about pivoting. I'll see how it goes and if I can't maintain then I'll ask for a brace. I am getting a cadaver's tendon. And thank you.
Oh crap, I am sorry. I tore up my knee at 17, jumping out of a pick-up. It forever changed my "I'll just hop off here" thinking. Hoping you have a good outcome.

mryrcn, I tore my ACL and they used cadaver tissue. If you have any questions, please ask. It happened almost 15 years ago now and I am happy with what I can do with my knees.
