mustardseed2007, I wouldn't mind it either, if I thought my DD belonged in the outfield. She's got a great arm - strong and accurate - but she's a very slow runner. You have to be quick to play out there. But since very few kids actually hit the ball into the outfield in this division, it's looked at as exile.
DD1 is not an amazing athlete, but she is one of the strongest players on the team. She can hit the ball hard and far. She can throw and catch. That kind of makes her an all-start at this point. But it can be tough to be the coach and the mom at the same time. I'm worried that parents will second guess where I put the kids. Many parents will be fine, but others won't. And if they say anything, DD will feel bad.
The parents make me nuts. I swear, next year I'm going to pay the sponsorship fee for a sign that says, "If you want to complain, volunteer."

Baseball season is officially over for us. DS Got a hit. He got thrown out at first again but it really had more to do with how good the team was that we played. He immediately started running after he made contact, and moved quickly down the base line, no limp. He did really well. Overall they lost to a gold bracket team but they all played really well and they looked evenly matched. Look at me. This reads almost like I'm actually a baseball mom!
While DD was at gymnastics I talked to them about the ninja warrior class. We can do a free one to try it but we can't do it until the first saturday in June b/c they are doing trophies and certificates in a couple of weeks in the current programs.
The good news is that I think I'll be able to get them in a class at the same time, which is going to be PERFECT. Hopefully DS is willing to give it a try. In a way, it will be much more challenging for him than baseball but I think it will be really good for him overall if he's willing to try.

Me too...I know it's going to be outside his comfort zone b/c he's a lot more cautious than that activity really requires. But hopefully he tries it!
I signed them up for swim lessons also. They start next Thursday.
I kind of wish I'd left off one week instead of booking it now just so we could have a longer break of less stuff to do. But I booked it over the phone and they had the day and time I wanted and .... I kind of did that thing I sometimes do when I'm ordering at a restaurant and but I'm not quite ready so I order a little bit wrong...lol
We were on our way to the game last night and DD1 said, “Mom, I have to get this off my chest. *kid on team* told me she thinks you’re mean and likes *assistant coach* better.”
It’s silly, but my feelings were so hurt. I try so hard with the kids, and really try to make it fun. I go into the field with them to make sure they are paying attention so they don’t get hit with the ball. I just cheer them on - just saying their names usually snap them back to reality. The kid that said I was mean got hit so hard last night because she was twirling around on third base.
This might be my last year coaching. I felt so deflated last night.

I don’t know how coaches do it. I think you are doing a great job! For perspective she is an oblivious kid that wasn’t thinking and still isn’t that her twirling equals injury. Likely she will look back at it when she is older and think gosh I was kind of dumb for twirling and getting hit and coach was right, but she just sees herself being corrected right now.
Eh, you were "mean" in her mind in that moment. Next week you'll be the nice one. Kids are fickle.
Mine is that hockey season is officially over. DD scores 2 points in the last game which is awesome. She scored one point early on and then nothing. But the funny thing is they are having a "tournament" this weekend. THERE ARE ONLY TWO TEAMS! The same 2 teams have played each other all season, with the occasional red team member going over to blue because they never seem to have enough players. So the tournament is just a game?
mae0111 - I promise that same kid has excitedly told her mom “coach Mae said I did a good job when I....”. Focus on the positive and the awesome impact you are having on the kids - because you are - even if they don’t know it, every practice, game, win, loss and injury is shaping them and these experiences are becoming part of their history. “Remember the year Parker tried softball and kept getting hit because she never paid attention?”
Omg ok... so the girls had a great night. 3 kids hit doubles (which is the max in this division), and excellent plays in the field. I was so happy for them!
Then... apparently a kid loaned another kid a glove for the season. Apparently my asst coach brokered this deal somehow. Loaner did not consult her mom about the loan. Borrower has written her name, in sharpie, all over borrowed glove. Apparently mom of loaner believes that this is now my problem. I disagree. I did not participate in or encourage this transaction. I don’t know how it became my problem.
What day you, WP? Is it my problem?? I sent an email to the borrower’s mom (who, quite frankly, frightens me a bit) stating that loaner expects glove back in good condition, and then forward the email to loaners mom. Am I done now?
mae0111- You are done. You’ve done more than you had to. If they bring it up again, I would refuse to get in the middle. I would just say “Go talk to the other mom. And maybe talk to your daughter about not loaning her things without your permission if you don’t want her loaning things.”
Got a response from borrower - “Oh I’m happy to let her borrow it!” No. You’re not. You’ve approached me 3 times in 4 games to discuss the glove, the fact that it’s a new glove, that you did not give permission to loan the glove, and you don’t know who has the glove (and I’ve told you, each time, who had it).

There's a mom on DS's regular little league team that harassed the head coach into getting her son in the lineup to pitch at the last game. (This is the first level of kid-pitch, so most kids are new to pitching.) Like, she would email before every game and tell the coach she wanted her son to pitch. (And we're only half-way through the season, so it's not like it's the end of the season.) He pitched one inning last game and wasn't great. The coach also put the kid in an inning as catcher, and I swear, I've never seen someone move so slowly to get wild balls. I'm sure the kid hated every minute of catching, but he can have his mom to thank for that. That mom shouldn't be a b**** to the coach. And as others have said, if she has so much to complain about (and so many opinions), maybe she could either help coach or help somehow.

“Great! Then I will extricate myself and let you two work it out directly. Thanks!”
In other news I am now managing DD’s soccer team. If anyone brings me that kind of nonsense I will probably stop just short of telling them where to stick it. Oh god don’t let anyone come to me with BS like that. I know my limits.
One of the moms ordered beer steins for the coaches, including DH, and the head coach gave DH the game ball for having bought and lugged 15 tees and 6 painters buckets of tee balls to every practice. DH was so incredibly touched by that.
Now I feel like I ought to do something for he dugout moms, but I don’t know what and time is short!

186momx, you’ll probably know this. My 3yo was super into MyGym. We put her in because she was throwing herself off furniture. After a year, I pulled her out to do swim lessons with her sister instead. (Ok, was also secretly hoping they’d love the same activity.) She will be done soon and has asked about going to gymnastics again. We are no extracurriculars this summer but I will sign her up again probably in August when she will be closer to 4.
The question — there is a “real gymnastics” place where I can take her for lessons that is the same price as My Gym. What age would you recommend switching to a place like that, versus a kiddie gym? Is there any benefit to it at 4?
OMG softball was AWESOME tonight!! DD hit 2 doubles (3 at bats), 2 other kids hit doubles (doubles are the max and not on an error - the kids have to hit the ball far enough to make it to 2nd). They made several good plays in the field. 3 different first basemen CAUGHT THE BALL!!!
librarychica, Most of the team girls at DD's gym started as a 3 or 4 year old in the gym preschool classes. I would ask to see if she could try a class before signing up (our gym lets you) to see if it is the right fit. Preschool classes still learn gymnastics but they do it in a fun way. Examples: stretching they fly places in butterfly, make pizza in straddle, pick stars/fruit and put it on their toes. The rest of class is done usually in a circuit so everyone stays moving and then one or two of the stations are slightly more complicated and the coach is there helping (bars, beam, cartwheels/monkey jumps). Plus they always end class with either stamps or stickers. Hope this helps. My DD started at 18 months in mommy and me class just to give us something to do. She really fell in love around the age of 4 and now goes in spurts of everything gymnastics and then she mixes it up. When she doesn't want to go to practice and do the work is when I know she needs a break which hasn't happened yet.
I signed up to help coach DD1's soccer league with the understanding that there would be 4 coaches for 25 4 and 5 year olds. Only two of us have shown up to two games thus far. The Manager of the program sent an email out yesterday asking for a 6th coach for the boys' league. Meanwhile we're over here with only two coaches. I don't know who I'm more annoyed at the parents who committed and are no shows or the manager.

Mini bottles or the juice box size boxes of wine. I need a glass after every game lol. It's like herding cats!
Impressed that you guys hsve THAT many tees though. Our teams get 1 each.

How long do your tee ball seasons last and how many games do you have per week? I'm noticing towns around us getting done and we still have a month. Some weeks we have 1 game and most weeks we have 2. The weeks we have 1 were last week and then the last 2 weeks of the season.
erinshelley21, last year Little League went from April-Fathers day. The rec league just started last week and will be done by June 15th. For t-ball all of them seem to be able to meet 3 days a week. So hopefully 2 practices and 1 game. Some weeks we played 3 games and no practices to make up for rain outs.
I played the rec league as a kid and it started in May and didn't finish until end of July it was so nice to have something to do over the summer. Now all the leagues seem to finish by Fathers day which is also when school is done. To play over the summer you try out and do travel all start teams.
This is just funny. When DD started hockey, my coworker loaned me some stuff her son has outgrown. At first I didn't know the helmet was adjustable and thought it was too big, so I bought a new one. Then I figured it out so we left the new one in the garage, figuring we could either use it next season if she liked hockey or take it back if she didn't at the end of the season. DH sent me a picture today. Birds built a nest in it!
Rec league started May 1. We go to the end of July. I am farther north than a lot of you but funny that your seasons are already over. Little league started April 28. I don’t know when they end.
We have only had practices so far. I think next week starts games. 1 practice and 1 game a week. Except we have uneven number of teams so they might play double headers which I am not thrilled about.
