I just signed up for stitch fix. I did the style quiz, set my preferences and set up a Pinterest board of items I like. How else can I make sure it’s a good experience? Any ideas?
sandandsea, I've used them several times before, was not very impressed in the quality of garments that I was sent for the price. Also, they didn't seem to listen to me, and kept sending me velvet shoes, and every time I sent them back with a note about how I would absolutely not buy them and do not send me any. So, I'm not sure how well they listen. At the same time, I did get a blazer that I really like and wear often from one of the boxes, so that was a win. Honestly it felt like a bit of a crapshoot to me.

I've had two really good experiences. The first box, I kept 2 items, but mostly because the others were similar to things I already had and a bit too pricey. For the second box, I lowered the price range and asked for items for work and kept everything. The stylist nailed it both times. I got stuff that I really loved but might not have tried on in the store.
I think it's going to be a crapshoot no matter how hard you try. Most people I've talked to have been happy with the service, but some had similar experiences to phdmomma. Just keep an open mind.

I ordered 2 boxes. The first one, I kept a couple items. One was a pair of skinny jeans that I liked enough to pay more than I wanted to for them. They lasted for 1 wash and fell apart in the wash. The second time, I connected a Pinterest board and liked the clothes even less than the first time when I just did the survey.

This was me, but substitute maxi dresses for velvet shoes. "PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT SEND MAXI DRESSES." "Hey, we thought you'd love this maxi dress!"
Also seasonally inappropriate things. DNW a thick wool sweater in June. Maybe they're jaded by the fact that their HQ is San Francisco and their summer is the only time of year most people consistently run the heater?

I've had better luck with Trunk Club.
This is interesting to me because I've had great success with the pants they send me. At 6' - they always seem to find pants that are long enough and fit me well. I'm actually wearing a pair as we speak.
I may look at Trunk Club, though. Mix things up a bit.
I had a couple good fixes but stopped the service when I got pregnant. I noticed that the quality isn’t that great though. The sweaters have pills or didn’t wash well. Oh, that’s one thing I had to specify- must be able to machine wash. My first fix was all hand wash only.
DH does stitch fix and has had an awesome experience. He never gives input either so I have no idea how.
I found Stitch Fix worked well when I used it with the mind set of adding some interesting new pieces to my wardrobe. I have a maxi dress (sorry k3am), a skirt, and a vest that I never would have picked off a rack, but I ended up really liking.
I did not have good luck with them when I tried to get them to send me specific things. Don’t even get me started on all the things they sent me that did not meet my request for “black dress slacks”.

Hah! I have nothing against maxi dresses unless it’s me wearing it.
