I'm hoping you all can help me figure out what's going on with my hair. I also happen to have an appt tomorrow for a cut and highlights so I will ask my stylist as well.
I have medium length, fine hair. But I have a LOT of hair. I wash it every ~4 days. After washing, I blow it dry and curl it with my straightening iron. The style can usually last about 4 days with a few touch ups and dry shampoo. I have been very loyal to Kirkland (Costco brand) shampoo and conditioner. However I'm wondering if maybe the formula has changed bc I'm not getting the same results.
The only products I use are Kenra Platinum Blow Dry Spray and Josie Maran Argan Hair Serum. I finish with Kenra hairspray. I've used these products for years (they are pretty much HG status for me.)
The past couple of months my hair has just felt heavy even right after washing. The only time it feels really good is after I use a clarifying shampoo which is maybe every third wash. I have really great hair days after I use that shampoo. The Kirkland shampoo/conditioner is for color treated hair and is labeled as "Moisturizing." Maybe I need to use a shampoo for more normal hair? I'm afraid to use the clarifying shampoo every time as I don't want to strip my hair. Any thoughts or recs?
Do you double wash (like, lather up twice in a row) when you wash your hair? How long have you been doing this current routine?
I have really fine happy, but a ton of it. I cannot go 4 days between washing without my scalp feeling gross. I absolutely have to double wash and if I don't use a clarifying shampoo, it feels like it doesn't get *as* clean unless I go back to my every other day shampooing routine. Dry shampoo can build up. I don't know much about the Kenra product. I hope your stylist has some good advice for you.
tiramisu, I had no idea double washing was a thing.... but yes, I do every once in a while bc my hair just doesn't feel sudsy after the first wash. Maybe I need to do that every time. Regarding the 4 days, I know it sounds like a long time, but it actually looks pretty good on day 4, it just doesn't feel good. And of course, I reserve day 4 hair for days when I'm not going out. I'd say every 3-4 days is normal for me.
Current routine has been a while. Probably ~2 years.
Alps79 I hear you. My scalp feels too gross by the end of day 3 for me to try for a fourth day most of the time. I definitely double wash after that to try to get all the buildup off my hair and scalp. I don't know if that's any better/gentler for your color.
I think it's probably the Kirkland is too heavy for you and I've heard mix reviews about it anyway. Double washing is a thing but you shouldn't HAVE to do it or use clarifying shampoo every time you wash. I bet your stylist would have recommendations for something better suited.
She rec'd It's a 10 Shampoo and Conditioner, followed by Kenra and Pureology.
Today I'm wondering if I need a "better" dry shampoo bc that stuff is life changing and I am not going to stop using it if I have to wash my hair more often.
So I guess I'm also looking for a dry shampoo rec. I use the cheap stuff (Suave and Dove) but I'm happy to switch to something better. What do you use?
I used the search function and saw Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk, 2-pack was recommended! I just ordered from Costco. Hoping it lives up to the hype It was $32 after tax.
