I know I don't really go here, but wanted to see if you all had any suggestions for housing in Cambridge. A friend will be coming back to the US this summer for grad school in Cambridge and I've offered to assist with checking out some housing options for him. I worked in Cambridge 5 or so years ago, but haven't gone back much since and never lived there so I'm not too up to date on housing. He's interested in the Cambridge Highlands area. Any pros, cons or other suggestions?

I had to look up where that is. Seems to be fresh pond area. I honestly don’t know about housing there. It’s close to alewife and Huron village so I’d guess expensive. Why that particular area of Cambridge? I’m in Somerville which is an alternative to Cambridge.
I also had to look up where that is, and I apparently live less than a mile away lol. No one calls it Cambridge Highlands, I'm not sure where your friend is getting that term.
Honestly, the Fresh Pond/Alewife area can be a bit of a no mans land. There are lots of luxury apartments going up near Alewife/Rt 2, but there aren't really any amenities that would make it desirable to me (neighborhood feel, walkable to lots of shops and restaurants). Its also a big train track/electrical station junction.
