Dear DD I'm sorry you are wearing the same shorts as the last 2 summers but they still fit. I don't get what the problem is. You have no issues wearing 2T shorts to gym practice. I'm not going out and buying you new shorts in the same size when you have a dozen pairs that fit but are shorter than last year. Mom
Dear Weather I really like the warmth but going from 40s to 80s is a bit much especially when it will only be lasting 3 days before you drop back to the 50s and rain. Signed Don't know what to wear or what to cook
Dear DH No I don't think walking 6 miles to work and 6 miles from work each day is a good idea to prep for the PCT hike in August. Ride your bike to work if you want the exercise or go for a walk after DD goes to bed. Me who is rolling her eyes
WPs Have any of you done a 4 day back country hiking trip before? If so how did you get read?. DH is doing a 30 mile stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail in August with friends. The same friends who pampered me last weekend. DD and I get to hang out at their place with the dogs and just drop them off and pick them up at designated spot. Lost 186momx
186momx I did a 40 mile back country hiking trip back in University. We did it over 10 days (the last 4 we spent in one spot). I had only done 1 overnight trip before that one. I went with my boyfriend at the time, and he had done lots of trips. I just made sure to break in my hiking boots before that trip, I did nothing else to prepare. It was a pretty awesome trip.
katrine05, that is what are friends are planning. They are doing day hikes but nothing over night. My DH is an overachiever. He road from Oregon to Yellowstone at 14 on his bike and then the next year road it to San Fran. All this prepping is making me bonkers.
Dear week, Please get on with it... You are dragging by! The rest of my team is posting fun vacation photos online and I'm stuck here trying to juggle way too much and accomplishing way too little. Signed, The only one not on vacation
Dear conference, Don't get annoyed with ME! It's taken 3 weeks, multiple voicemails, emails, etc... to finally get all the info I need to pre-register. Don't send out a form without all the info on it and then expect that I'm a mind reader! I'm hoping this will clinch us a good location, since others might not have the perseverance and patience I've had. Signed, Paying Customer

Dear MIL,
DD was super disappointed that you didn't come to her gymnastics class on family night on Monday to watch her. Your excuse of "digestive issues" is your go-to excuse when you don't want to do something. I've known you long enough to know that. Hopefully you are able to come to another class to make it up to DD.
Dear Daycare, It’s cute that you organize a quarterly “curriculum night” after school event for families to do fun things at school and interact more with teachers and other families. But can you be a little more organized? Sending an email at 5:30 pm to a bunch of WPs asking us to bring flowers and bags of dirt to tomorrow’s event so that we can participate in planting the school garden is not cool. Signed, Not running out to the store tonight. Sorry not sorry
I did a week long back packing trip as a kid. We didn’t hike that far. It was probably somewhere between 2-4 miles to the first campsite and 2-4 to the next one and I am not sure I think we liked one of the spots so we just stayed there and did day hikes. We did do a 12 mike day hike though. So we were probably more in the 30 mile range for 7 days.
Definitely don’t go with new shoes. Otherwise the main prep was on gear and packing the backpacks. Because we were kids there was a big effort to make sure our packs weren’t too heavy. I think we walked around a little with our packs (all packed up) to make sure we could actually walk. Make sure we had enough food and the tent fit etc.
Please oh please oh please love my kids at their interview/tour day tomorrow. They're nice kids. They're smart kids. DD1 is very excited about the idea of going there every day. Please say yes. Please let them come. I promise you won't regret it.
Signed, Mama Bear Looking Out For Her Kids
Dear First Contract Job -
You are so awesome. I'm sorry for neglecting you. Just a lot going on right now. I'll do better!
I’m really glad I’m here. You are all so smart and interesting and we have so many commonalities! But Geez Louise! Are you ALL extroverts? We were together every minute from 7:30 this morning to 11:09 tonight. I’m exhausted and tipsy and exhausted and tipsy. Did I mention both exhausted and tipsy?
Sincerely, Don’t know when the last time I had 3 glasses of wine was.
Signed, The lady spending her last night in her house surrounded by boxes and packing crates and a husband who went to a (fun) work event at 4pm and left her to pack/clean while simultaneous being able to feed/entertain two kids in a war zone of box shrapnel and other crap littering the whole house...

When we were both 30ish, we did a two day hike into and out of the Grand Canyon. We weren’t regularly exercising but pretty active and healthy. Not gonna lie, it was tough on DH. It was a lot to do in two days. We made it out though and would do it again in a heart beat.
If your DH is in good shape and the terrain isn’t super challenging, he shouldn’t need too much preparation. That’s about 7.5 miles a day, right? He will have lots of time to rest and hydrate. I think just keeping active over the summer should be fine. If you don’t hike regularly, I would start to do that to make sure he finds shoes that he likes and strengthens his feet and ankles. He certainly doesn’t need to walk 12 miles a day all summer.
You are officially the worst day of all 365 each year.
Dear DS,
You have lots of shorts. Maybe the reason you can't find any is because they never make it to the hamper.
Signed, mom
Dear lady at my meeting,
If you have an item to discuss, please put it on the agenda beforehand. It is unprofessional and rude to interject in a meeting one of your notoriously random questions/statements that will derail the rest of a meeting. Sorry you feelings were hurt when the rest of the group didn't go along with you. But I am not sorry I had a certain "tone" with you. I meant to. Glad it wasn't too subtle.
OMFG chill out. We are a team of 3 (really 2.5 but that's a different issue) We literally can't do everything for everyone right this second. There is a priority list. Guess what? if you don't have a PM after your name you are not first in line. Even if you do have a PM after your name you may not be first in line since there are 3 of you WHO DON"T TALK TO EACH OTHER.
Also, when you ask for a task to be done in an hour and it's a task that you don't even know how approach doing correctly how about don't freak out on us when we say that is not possible.
Signed,
Stressed out 7 month pregnant lady who has been dreaming about work for the last few night. ugh.
sunbutter, yea, the plan is between 8-10 miles a day. He is super active already between work and his other hobbies that I don't think he needs to do anything extra. His biggest adjustment will be elevation. We are at 500ft and they will be hiking in the 6500ft range. I'm hoping by mid-June I will be in good enough shape that we can do some day hikes. Even if it is DD and I walking into the lake and DH power walking in around and back out while we rest and have lunch kind of thing at elevation. There are a few little lakes that are a mile hike in that us girls could do and he could ramp it up by going around the lake while we chill.
Dear DH I ordered your fathers day present today. I'm going to even tell you I did in hope that you will remember mothers day in a couple weeks. Wife

186momx There is a medication you can take prior to going to a high elevation that is supposed to help avoid altitude sickness. My old neighbor went on a similar hike and took a medication prior and he said that it really helped him acclimate. Cannot remember what it is called, your DH could probably call his doctor and ask.
