I had a phone interview last week for a position that seemed really great. I was booked for an in-person interview on Friday but decided to withdraw my application. I'm really regretting that decision. Do you think it's worth contacting HR to see if they would still consider interviewing me? If so, what do I even say?
It depends on why you turned it down and what changed. As a hiring manager, for me, it would need to be something pretty big that changed because I don’t have time to interview people who aren’t serious about wanting a job I have to fill.
If you are a strong candidate I would take that into account (ie don’t reschedule, don’t be late, be on your game) but it would not be a big deal in this market — it’s a candidates market ATM. I would refine the explanation for why - so that you don’t come off as flaky.
