We had DS's party this weekend - it went off without a hitch. Hooray!
We also got DS's bloodwork back from his 2 year appointment (they didn't do it for his 1 year), and he has non-anemic iron deficiency. sandandsea, your boys both have this (or similar) right? Any recommendations for fer in sol drops that he won't hate? Doctor suggested mixing with OJ to avoid teeth staining, but he won't drink OJ... any suggestions will help.
Yep both of mine have iron deficiency anemia with no underlying cause. Since B is 2, he can do children multi vitamins with iron and you can skip the drops if he can chew the vitamin. They do stain teeth temporarily and taste awful and can be messy! What’s worked best with both boys is really limiting their milk intake. They each get one cup a day and that’s it. They do eat yogurt and cheese too. We also encourage iron rich foods like meat and berries and iron fortified foods. Even with vitamins and diet changes they are both borderline but seem very healthy so we don’t worry about it. We ran the gamete of tests to ensure no underlying bad things were present so I’m okay with them being on the low end of the acceptable range.
ETA. We shoot for the lowest acceptable number in the range. Both boys were a few points under this so we were sent to specialists and supplements alone didn’t work. The milk limitation and supplements and diet get them to be more borderline acceptable. Both boys (6 and almost 2) still have it and likely always will. Once they are adult men and don’t growing they may get better but while they’re growing it’s going to be an issue.

Mr “I’m not traveling at all in June” sent mid a text with his travel dates today. So it’s on me to get this kids to my parents an hour away from my office for one of the 4 weeks of “grandparent camp” we agreed on for that month. I usually get to work at 7 and H planned to drop them off every day at 8:30 so I’m not happy about this.
It’s been raining for two weeks and the inability to squeeze in a roof cleaning is all that is holding up our rental’s live listing and open house. Come on clear skies!
DD1’s teacher sent home a single-serve koolaid pack in a reusable cup. Dd2’s did not. She is 3. You can imagine the howling in my car.
covergirl82 - how was your daughter's assembly last week??
Aww, thank you for remembering, judyblume14!! It was great! She was so surprised. Her story was actually an opinion piece titled, "We Should Eat Ice Cream Every Friday." It was an opinion I think most people can get on board with. She introduced herself and didn't seem nervous sitting in the Author's Chair. At the end of the assembly we got to go congratulate her and take some pictures. I feel that DS gets more recognition because of sports, so I was really happy she had a chance to shine.
My weekend went pretty well. I watched the Royal Wedding and then did some much-needed cleaning. DS's baseball game was cancelled due to weather, so that gave me some extra time to get some things done around the house and pack for my work conference.
I flew out yesterday afternoon to Dallas, where I'll be until Wednesday for a work conference. The stars aligned and we left on time and arrived after the thunderstorms went through.
I’m slammed at work. I’ve got a couple high profile projects at critical stages, and it doesn’t help that I’m out for nearly a half day each week for doctor appointments and treatment. Meanwhile, DH is on a work trip until late Thursday. We plan on going out of town on Friday for the holiday weekend, so that will leave me with most of the packing and logistics.
This morning was a mess. DH got picked up for the airport at the same time I was trying to get the boys out the door for daycare. It would have been easier if DH had been gone by the , because he was just running around getting all his stuff, and the boys were worked up by him leaving. It was pouring at drop off and I got soaked as well.
I also got the news at work today that a contractor who was supposed to start today on my team to augment capacity of a key, niche technical skill decided at the last minute to take a full time position on the east coast. It’s super annoying because he was supposed to start 2 weeks ago, but then my HR group decided they wanted some contract language changes with the agency and that delayed everything. Now by the time we find someone else and get through all the paperwork, it will probably set us back at least 6 weeks from where we wanted to be.
Also, I’m having a mini panic attack over summer scheduling after getting the packets of summer info from DC. This is our first summer at this DC. I have a headache already thinking about all the logistics and I know it will all fall on me. For example, DS1 has water days on Thursdays and Fridays, when I’m supposed to send him in his swimsuit with a change of clothes and towel. But I’m also supposed to send him with another swim suit and towel at the beginning of the week to be used randomly that will be sent home each Friday. Meanwhile DS2 has water days on a rotating schedule that changes each week.
On top of that, add bike week (send a bike and helmet) and a couple TBD field trips for DS1 (send a car seat).
DH took the boys to a family party this weekend, and I spent a good couple hours digging through the closet to organize and take stock of summer clothes and gear, labeling everything, and ordering more swimsuits.
My entire day was made when the used children’s clothing and kid items shop took and paid us for the rain cover I sewed for the infant car seat. They are picky about items there. I’m trying to convince DH that this means I’m a small business in a retail location so that I can write off my fabric purchases this year. Granted if this were all true my business would lose so much money. But really I’m just excited they took it.
DS says that iron vitamins suck, spit 'em right out and said "no doot doot" which is DS speak for "no thank you!"
Was it the chewable or drops? Maybe try the other and then go with steak We can sneak in high iron veggies in pouches like spinach, otherwise leafy greens hit the reject button.

DS and I are hopefully coming out of a rough patch WRT maintaining structure and routine. He went with his dad this weekend which gave me a much needed break. I spent most of the weekend cleaning up and putting in my garden, which is always therapeutic. Sunday was a memorial service for a woman who I knew through my grad program. Today was a frenzy of cleaning and shopping to get ready for DS to come home.

Target was out of drops, so I went with chewables. Looks like another target trip is in my future. $100 on drops sounds expensive. (I can’t seem to leave spending less than that lately!)
k3am, Both of my kids seem happy enough with some ones that I got an Amazon, called Renzo's? They are a little pricey, but less than the drops. DD (3) just got her iron re-checked and she is in the bottom of the normal range!
Yesterday was the first day without one of my managers. He managed a team of 6 and had a high profile position since he serviced literally everyone in the company. It's been really rough and I'm only on day 2. It didn't help that he sent off a scathing email to another exec right before he headed out the door on Friday. Talk about burning bridges. I had been working with him on delegating and being a manager for the past year and my suspicions are now confirmed that he was still doing all the day to day work for his team. He was very needy and always took care of something himself instead of putting the responsibility where it belonged. His team is coming to me with everything, very basic questions. My favorite yesterday was how to set up a calendar meeting. It's going to be a long road of training and changing expectations for his team.
I'm overwhelmed at work doing two manager jobs, just got back from vacation, in the midst of planning two birthday parties for DD1 over the next week, setting up summer camp schedules and paperwork, sick baby, coaching soccer, DH is going out of town this week, etc. DH asked me about going to the hardware store last night when he got home. I assumed it was for the basement project so I lost it on him. Mental overload.
MIL wouldn't answer her phone last night when we called 5 times to have the kids wish her a happy birthday. I can only assume she's upset that we didn't plan something with her. I blame DH.
