I woke up to get to my 6am flight on time. In part, this is because my almost 6 year old came in at 2:30 with a bad dream. My alarm was set for 3:30 so I just got up a little early.
Good thing because I get to my normal terminal and Precheck is closed. This is bad enough but the non- precheck side is now this weird automated system that no one understands. Especially not the extremely large group of Chinese tourists flying with no interpreter.
So this trip is starting out like Tony the Tiger. Greeeat.
In good news, we rearranged our furniture in our very awkward family room. I finally insisted we use a couch and block the fireplace. We have never used it, and DH is always freaked out the kids toys land in it. It has completely transformed the room into a great, usable space. And now no toys can land in it.
It's birthday week! Prepping for the party on Saturday and praying for good weather. We're getting a pet rat tomorrow for their gift. They've been begging for one and we keep putting it off, telling them "we'll think about it." Can't wait to see their faces when a new friend arrives tomorrow! (For those freaking out, DH and I have had rats as pets before, so they've seen pictures. They're surprisingly sweet pets. Very docile and friendly, kind of like a teeny tiny dog. Waaaay friendlier and easier than a hamster or a gerbil)
Struggle bus, party of 1 here. All of the kids finally slept through the night, but 5 am still came too quickly. I got up for my workout and struggled to make it through. You'd think that my body would be accustomed to this after 3 weeks, but not today. Then I realized a major screw up - DD has an orthodontist appointment at noon today, but she has a field trip at 1pm. I have to either convince the orthodontist to take her a little early or convince the school to let me drop her off at the field trip (it is on our way home). And I have a ton of work to get done this week to get ready for an audit next week. I work in a regulated industry and if we fail this audit, we won't be able to sell our product. Cue panic mode.

After a couple of years of planting the idea Inception-style, the children have now asked for a puppy. Yessss! As soon as they are all old enough to walk themselves outside, we're totally getting one.
I woke up to an email this morning asking for for an update on something he sent to one person on our team, granted is the lead, but still if you send an email to one person on our team you are looking to get your email lost in the shuffle. I have no knowledge of this task, I have no knowledge of the progress being made on this task and our lead is on vacation until Wednesday. I hate being put in this position. I don't even know how to reply to this email.

mommyatty, that really sucks! I have such anxiety for those early morning flights. I never sleep well because I’m afraid of not hearing my alarm.
I’m so tired today. I slept like crap on Saturday night because as I was drifting into a nice deep sleep, some a-hole decides to set off fireworks. Last night I kept waking up too. It’s also PMS time which makes me twice as tired as normal.
The weekend was fun though. DH took the kids to see Infinity War so I had a good 3 1/2 hours to myself on Saturday. On Sunday, DH took DS with him to his friends lake house so DD and I ran some errands and then she met up with friends so again, I was left alone. Did some laundry, cleaned out the inside of my car and DH came home and made dinner. I felt like I was in the twilight zone
First day of camp for DD today. We spent some of yesterday getting ready. I put a 3 drawer shelf on the kitchen table (because better than piles of clothes in the same place!) and filled it with camp shoes, swimsuits, and shorts/shirts. I put a bowl of decent breakfast foods (you guys helped with) on the counter, got the backpack cleaned and ready, laid out towel, water bottle. This morning I woke up and got the meds laid out, and I was just heading to the shower when DD woke up 1/2 hour early. Womp womp! So I cuddled her a minute and let DH know she was up (woke him up), got her dressed (3 swimsuit changes!), got her backpack packed, and offered her breakfast. "Eggs. I just want eggs." Obviously there were no scrambled eggs in the breakfast bowl, but she was so early and offered to cook them. I put the pan on the stove and turned it on while she broke the eggs and beat them with a whisk. I went to get DH out of bed to supervise her so I could shower. Apparently "DD is cooking eggs in the kitchen and I really need to take a shower" means "Play on your phone a while." So I did a whores bath and got dressed, and when I got back to the kitchen she had turned the stove from 1 ring level 3 to 2 rings level 10. Scorched the oil in my cast iron pan (hopefully didn't ruin the seasoning but I won't know until it cools down), and had to clean a new pan and heat it up for her. Of course she swears she never touched the stove. Then I figured out how to open the kitchen windows while DH looked mad. Took DD in the bathroom to brush her hair while the pan heated, and supervised her cooking the eggs before I left for work 20 minutes late. So of course at rush hour 20 minutes late equals a half hour late to work. But it's ok, it'll all even out when I leave work 15 minutes early to pick her up at the camp bus stop.
In interesting news, everything she picked out for camp is decidedly girly. Wonder what is up with that. She wore a tie to the graduation ceremony on Friday. Who knows?

I've already put in a full damn day. Worked out at 5 and then just had my interview. The HR dept sent me to the wrong building so I went from being 10 minutes early to 5 minutes late. Other than that I think it went really well. Pay is a little lower than what I want but I can deal. The company has done nothing but grow since the 90s which is impressive after the last 10 years. I was the final interview. I actually think the interviews were already over when I got the phone call last week. Fingers crossed they don't hate the PT schedule for 6 weeks and I get good news this week.
I’m SO impressed with all of you working out at 5am! You are #goals.
We had a bday party and Cub Scout camping Saturday and it was good overnight. We didn’t sleep well camping but it was fun. Then we packed for our vacation. Dh and I are headed to Europe on Wed AM and can’t wait. We both have a weeks worth of work to do before we leave and ds has an open house at school tomorrow too. So we have a mad rush for the next 48 hours and then we can totally relax!
I had a 6:20 flight this morning, got up at 5 am and I live 30 miles from the airport. That’s my new MO and worked out fine even though I got selected for a random security check. I’m glad to fly out of an easy airport.
We had a relatively laid back weekend. A bday party, lunch out with the kids, and yesterday afternoon a neighbor had a party for everyone in the neighborhood that was super fun.
Now I just have to make it through 4 different client meetings in 4 days, each out of town in a different city. Including on my birthday Thursday - should be super fun.
Nice weekend, but my low key weekend wasn't all that low key. I did get to sit in my housecoat and catch up on some trashy TV on a rainy Friday night. Saturday it was pick up DD from a sleep over, take DD back to the friend's how Saturday night to swim in their lake, take DS to another lake for a fishing boating birthday party, and hanging at a friends house until they both could be picked up.
Sunday, I shopped for lunch and breakfast items for a friend who had surgery. My intent was to stay for a bit and then get home to cook DH supper. Instead, I end up by the pool, the kids swam all afternoon ( I drug them off the couch to go because it was a nice day, they were both adamant they didn't want to go or swim, and both had to be drug out of the water around 7). DH didn't get his supper, but I assume he ate leftovers. Oh well it was fun.
Random. I have this huge fear of my kids swimming in lakes. They are older and good swimmers, but the rule is a life jacket in the lake. My 80s upbringing consisted of me only swimming in lakes. We had no swimming lessons, and my mom basically said swim to the dock. If you made it, you were good to go and swam on your own from then on.
We had DS's party this weekend - it went off without a hitch. Hooray!
We also got DS's bloodwork back from his 2 year appointment (they didn't do it for his 1 year), and he has non-anemic iron deficiency. sandandsea, your boys both have this (or similar) right? Any recommendations for fer in sol drops that he won't hate? Doctor suggested mixing with OJ to avoid teeth staining, but he won't drink OJ... any suggestions will help.
k3am- I have problems with iron. My body apparently sloughs a LOT of it and my body doesn’t absorb iron from plants. So I have to eat beef every couple of weeks at least. And when I do, I can tell my iron was low because I literally feel like my whole body is glowing like a fairy when I eat beef. It’s such a funny, tingly feeling that sometimes I start laughing. Very weird, I know.
The reason the doc recommends OJ is because vitamin C is necessary for absorbing plant-based iron. Milk inhibits it. So if you can mix it with some type of juice high in vitamin C (my kids like cran-grape), that’s optimum.

k3am , DD had an iron test at her 12 month appt a few months ago and it came back low. The pedi said to give her a multivitamin and just mix it in with food. There is a flinstone vitamin with extra iron in it. I've crushed it up and put it in pb&j, coated a ripped up pancake with it, it sticks to most fruits well too.

Oh, it's surely diet related. He is vegetarian. And doesn't eat vegetables. I mean basically, he eats cereal, bread, bananas and sweets. Not much red meat at all.
Good to know about the vitamin c. helping the body absorb it. He also drinks his weight in milk, so maybe we need to do less milk? Fat chance.

I lived a few years of my childhood near the beach and was relatively fearless about the ocean. Jaws was always in the back of my mind but I never really thought about it when I was there. My mom would watch us from the beach while we body surfed, jumped waves, got caught in waves and rolled to the shore, went way far out during low tide, etc.
We are going to the beach this summer with my kids and I’m so scared. Sharks are the least of my worries. Rip currents scare the bejesus out of me and I already told them that if there is a rip current warning, they are going no where near the water. I’ve told them what to do in the event of a rip current but they obviously have no idea how strong and scary they are and brush me off as if they’re no big deal (I’m presuming this as I’ve never been in one and hope to never be in one!). I’m not sure I will be able to relax and I’m half tempted to buy them life preservers too. I’m hoping I can chill out when I’m there because right now the anxiety is really getting to me.
ETA - Monday random: having a teenaged girl with her period is reminiscent of having potty training kids. So much laundry.
k3am, DD had this as a toddler. I didn't want to supplement her, so we agreed to repeat the test in 3 months, and she was fine then. The main thing I did is limit her milk intake a bit (she was taking a lot, so I added more water), and started using cast iron to cook and replaced PB with pumpkin seed butter. Pumpkin seeds are high in iron. Also made sure she had other iron rich vegetables and fruit like raisins.

I'd bet reducing the milk alone would solve the problem. With summer see if he'll take more water. He can still have milk, just with meals.
Weekend was productive. DD is tired and super sore from her 5 hours of gym Saturday plus all the gymnastics she did at home. I had to tell her no gym at home until after 4 on Sunday to force her body to rest. Date night was okay. We ended up double with a family friend last minute but their 11 year old had to come because she can't stay home alone for 2 hours so that was slightly annoying.
My allergies are going bonkers and it isn't even June. I have another 8 weeks until relief and pollen counts will only get higher. 4th of July can't come fast enough. Usually all the grass seed farmers finished cutting and processing by the week after the 4th
Still hurts to sit, but overall feeling better towards the later part of the weekend. I was just hoping for a quicker healing time. Called the gyno for a refill on one of the meds. I'm also getting a cold, and all the kids are coughing despite their breathing treatments, inhalers, and flonase. It's definitely a cold and not allergies.
It's the last week of school and my schedule is shot to hell. I have pre-school graduation tonight, baseball tomorrow, 5 events on Wednesday! Baseball Thursday and the last day of school is Friday. I usually stalk the heck out of my schedule, like review it multiple times a day type up a weekly etc, and I still missed a birthday party. Forgot to RSVP forgot to attend, found the invite that day after it was over. Luckily DS forgot about it too, so we didn't mention it. At least I didn't RSVP yes and then totally forget!
The weekend was nice but tiring. Saw a concert, watched the royal wedding, and then had to work. If I can make it through Wednesday I am golden as I have Thursday and Friday off. I might not make it to Wednesday. Also, love you DH but why did you schedule 2 concerts on the last 2 weeks of school? I just sat through the last one like a zombie mostly. I mean it was great don't get me wrong, but we were in a spot where we couldn't stand or dance, and I was exhausted.
This weekend was slightly different than planned in that I ended up with DD part of Saturday, oldest part of Saturday (which was awesome) and DS threw up on the way home from camping.
So today I’m feeling v sandwiched. I saw my Mom Saturday and will do her meds in the 30 minutes between work and leaving for a volleyball tournament. DS was car sick but we weren’t sure until today so he’s home. Work is insane.
On the upside DD looked amazing for her two formals. Random pic then I’ll edit to a real pic. Side note excited about this book!.

It was a good weekend. I took both days off. I roller skated on Saturday for the first time since I was probably 12. Yesterday, DH left for his work conference early in the morning and DS and I just chilled. We went to the grocery store, ate lunch at Whole Foods and cooked together. I had to adjust my work schedule to fit with daycare while DH is out of town, so I'm out of my routine. DS has loved giving me instructions on his routine. "My dad does this and I do this..." So cute.
