I was diagnosed with Hashis at 19; I am 43 now. I have been on levothyroxine for a long time without any issues from it. 3 months ago my test showed a high TSH and high normal T4 (within range, but upper edge of range). I had a gap in taking it a week prior because I needed a physical, which may explain it. Today I retook the test and I haven't missed a dose in months. TSH and T4 just in bounds, both on high side.
I'm wondering if it is time to consider a T3/T4 combo med? Would those test results show that possibility? Anyone have experience with this?
I have Hashis but I'm not on any thyroid meds yet. My numbers dip just below "low" and then come back up on their own, so I haven't started anything yet.
Are you in the Hashimotos 411 group on Facebook? They have a ton of info there.
I don't have Hashis, but my son has congenital hypothyroidism and has been on Levotyroxine/synthroid since he was 8 days old. No matter what meds we give him and what dose his TSH is always slightly high and his T4 is just barely in the range. His endocrinologist said that was fine for him and at this point not to switch to other meds. As long as we can keep it at approximately the same levels then it just means he always runs a little high. I would think that unless you aren't able to bring it down into the normal level at all that you are probably good on the meds you are on. We have also always been told that 1 missed dose can affect your counts for up to 6 months, even with no additional misses, so depending on how long its been you may still be dealing with the gap in meds.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 12-13 and was on Synthroid until November. It worked well with my first pregnancy so I didn’t want to rock the boat until we were done having kids. In November, I went to separate T3 and T4 meds. I didn’t do the pig hormone after talking to my endocrinologist as the ratio of t3 to t4 is very different in humans and pigs. So I take two separate medicines now. My levels were way off after the first few months and I’m on a higher dose now. Waiting for my next blood draw. I do feel better on the split medicines but it hasn’t helped with weight loss or anything dramatic. Just slightly better. My body doesn’t absorb the medicine well so I’m on higher doses to get enough absorbed. Also they can tell which med needs to be increased and ruled out that my body can’t convert it. Apparently it’s VERY rare that one would have a conversion issue.
