Let's talk empties and favorites for May 2018!

No empties besides my deodorant, but a new favorite is the Maybelline Master Prime hydrate + smooth. I picked it up after perusing recommendations on Beautypedia and because I need a primer for my upcoming recitals. So far it's held up well and doesn't seem to irritate my skin or clog my pores.

Another favorite is the Trader Joe's shea butter & coconut oil hair mask. $4 and it definitely hydrates my hair. I'm actually thinking of returning the Verb one I bought in the Sephora sale because I like this one so much.

In May I finally installed one of those Culligan filtered showerheads in my new apartment and it's made a HUGE difference already. That's probably my biggest favorite so far this year.

I had some empties this month. They are all staples in my make-up bag, so I have back-ups of all of them:

Favorites. I had a lot this month.:

-BH Cosmetics floral blush duo in Caribbean Coral. Such a pretty color and it goes on nicely
-Invisibobble strong grip hair ring- I have a ton of hair so it's really heavy. These hair ties are great for keeping my pony from sliding down.
-PUR Visionary palette-really pretty colors and the formula is really nice. I've been reaching for this a lot lately.
-Diorshow mascara-I got a sample and it's the first time I've tried it (I know I'm late to the party on this one). I really like it and got 2 tubes when Nordstrom had their Buy 2 Get 1 Free mascara last week.
-Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint in Bare Pink-this is my perfect MLBB color. I've been doing simple makeup the last couple of weeks due to going into work an hour earlier than normal and this seems to be perfect for finishing off my look quickly.
-DE Pekee and JuJu cleansing bars-I freaking love these! My skin is so soft and hasn't broken out since I've been using these to cleanse my face. I originally bought the travel size duo and now have the full size to use when the smaller ones are gone.

UD Sheer Liar is down to the very nub. Already repurchased.

Finished a Clinique body scrub; already have a backup.

Almost out of DE C serum. Already have a backup.

I haven’t been wearing a ton of makeup but am starting to more, and it’s nice. Looking forward to playing with some summery colors.

Tarte maneater mascara- not repurchasing, I liked it but have others I prefer

Benefit porefessional- i may repurchase when I’m done with my current primer

No real favorites right now. We are moving so most of my makeup is packed, just left the basics.

Empties:

No7 Lift & Luminate Foundation- a nice medium coverage drug store foundation. Will repurchase at some point.


Nars Orgasm Blush probably my 3rd or 4th empty of this color. I have already repurchased but am looking for something new to mix things up a bit. I bought a Benefit Galifornia which is too orangey for my skin.


Matrix Biolage RAW Shampoo and Conditioner for Volume. Liked the shampoo for really leaving my hair feelings clean, but the conditioner makes it fuzzy. Won't repurchase, but I may try the color treated version. 

Living Proof TBD Styling Cream. Ghastly. Makes my hair feel dirty and look dull. Back to PHD.

Body Shop body yogurt in almond - heavier than lotion but doesn’t get sticky like body butters, sinks in quickly.


Empties: IT CC cream - both the matte and the disco ball version - have a couple of back ups in reserve because I bought when I cashed in points and forgot I already had back ups.

Loreal Voluminous Primer (This works as well as any high end one I have tried. )
NARS Matte Velvet lip pencil in Dolce Vita
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea eyeshadow palette (It has the prettiest colors, and shimmer but not too much glittery stuff)

Empties:
Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation: I love it but it is so heavy and not looking great lately so I am hunting for a foundation
Lush Rosy Cheeks Mask- I loved this, and if they still have it I would get it again
Flower Bomb perfume- My absolute favorite perfume, and they have a new one right now that I want to try

I had a good number of empties this month and it is my highest total value to date this year ($242.99). I also completed my Reverse Rouge project already, as my empties from Jan-May total $1032.67. I'm both surprised and pleased. I knew I always spent a lot, but it's nice to know that I'm actually using products instead of just buying them and letting them sit. After almost a year and a half of really trying to limit my spending and work on using things up instead of getting distracted halfway through a product, I'm happy with the amount of skincare and haircare that I have on hand. I still have way too much makeup, but I'm working on curating what I have and keeping only things I love.

Favorites-
Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer- love this for WFH days or lazy weekends when I need to run errands.
Drunk Elephant C-tango eye cream- I think this is actually doing something with my dark circles. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I think they are lighter.

This is was a really good month for empties. I’m mostly proud of finishing the Nars lip pencil from the birthday gift a few years back. Lipsticks take forever for me to use up. 

Favorites: Maybelline Total Temptation mascara, Fenty lipgloss and the Pat McGrath Platium Bronze palette.

No empties this month but I'm close on a Banila Clean it Zero and a couple of deluxe mascara samples.

I am continuing to love my Cureology, Taste Knockout Tingling Treatment, and DE Protini. I'm also loving a deluxe sample of Monsier Big mascara. I don't know how I missed that one over the years!

calico, I LOVE your reverse Rouge project!

calico - i'm super impressed by your dedication to the reverse rouge project! i'm going to do a pick sorting/organizing of my stash this summer and maybe will pick a similar format. do you use any docs/spreadsheets for tracking everything?

robinsbff, I just keep a simple list in my bullet journal. Nothing fancy, just the name and I'll look up the price.

They hold my hair in place really well and I don't have any issues with it pulling out my hair either like some ties.

Can you compare the Vice Sheer Liar to the old formula? I’ve been using my old one sparingly because I love it so much lol.

I will say, I have sheer Shame in the new formula, and it’s good! I am hoping sheer Liar will be as well.

My favorites have been the Too Faced Naturals Palette ( I bought the new one, but I still have the old one). I'll use the old one for travel since it's the small 9 pan, and the new one is quite a bit larger.

UD afterglow blush in Score, it's a great summer shade.

Huda Beauty Lip strobe in Angelic.

Empties:

Supergoop CC cream (this was actually old, so I tossed it, but bought a new one)

Philosophy Purity made simple cleanser (repurchased)

My empties were a bunch of trial sized products that I'm working my way through. The Farmacy Green Screen was the first of the Sephora sun kit I used and it was nice but I probably won't repurchase and I still have the whole bag of deluxe size sunscreens to go through.

Mac blushbaby blush (the perfect neutral blush)
Instanaturals rosehip oil (hate the pump, I decant into small dropper bottle)
DHC lip balm (on Amazon subscribe and save)

Oh, I also loved my old NARS multiple in Orgasm. I’ve been feeling lousy, and it’s a nice way to give me some color/life.
