Verify before using any restroom equipped with electronic handicap door openers that the door opener is not capable of overridding the door lock.
While waiting for my mom to have her follow up appointment at the hospital in Fergus Falls, MN, I encountered a restroom that ds pressing on the circle to operate the door opener overrode the door lock while I was using the facility and no amount of pressure would close the door until it opened fully.
I never considered it possible for the door locks to be overridden like that.
Unfortunately nope. I had a great view of the entrance/lobby from the door. Fortunately, most people are looking in other directions when in that area of the lobby.
According to the CEO, it's an ADA requirement that the door opener over rides the door lock. I don't know if that's true or not but I do question how a person in a wheelchair is unable to unlock the door if they are able to lock it in the first place.
I told him, if that's true then they need to post a notice that pressing the door opener button will cause the locked door to open.
