I'm thinking of trying it when I go on vacation at the end of the month. Despite having 3 libraries available for ebooks plus a few freebies plus Prime, I find I still have some big gaps with books being available.
A lot of books seem to advertise that they're on KU, but I'm well aware that it's targeted ads.

I have it and I really like it. I'm doing a re-read of the harry potter books (I don't own the ebooks and the library takes 100 years) and all of those are on unlimited so that's how I've been reading them. I'm going to do Lord of the Rings next so I'll keep it until I'm at least done with both series.
They do have some books that have the audio available as well as the ebook which is cool. I read and listened to Handmaid's Tale at the same time and a few others as well.
I guess it just depends on if you have a few specific books you know you would read on it, otherwise if you're just browsing, hoping for something good to come up it might not be worth it.
Well I'm going to be spending a little over a week at the beach, plus a bunch of weekends throughout summer, so the idea of some cheesy romance books where I can read and not think to much is appealing.
I guess I could at least do the 30 day trial and see.

I got 3 months for 1.99. I probably won’t renew after that. It’s handy for just mindless reading on my phone while I feed the baby, but I haven’t been super excited by the selection.

I'd probably do a 3-month trial at $1.99 if only to finish some series where the first books were free and then they switched to $2.99. I'm not paying $2.99 for what are truly bad novellas just because I got caught up in the stories, but I'd pay $1.99 to read them all.
I'm on it and have had some good finds. I tend to get a few books a month, at least -- some new and some re-reads, like Harry Potter.
My recent favorites are: The Book of the Unnamed Midwife (Meg Elison), which is a dark and amazingly well written post-apocalypse book about a virus that kills something like 95% of the population, but 90% of the survivors are men.
I also love the Sarah Lyons Fleming books about a zombie apocalypse.

When I first got my Kindle, I went down a rabbit hole of really shitty self-published stuff because it was "free" or extremely inexpensive. It actually turned me off reading for awhile. That is what holds me back the most, I am not sure the quality of books available is consistent enough to be worth it for me.
ETA: I do very few re-reads, and I own most of the books I do re-read.
