I went to orthopedics today. He told me it really does seem to be an overuse injury more than anything else, so I need to continue resting and find a balance of being active but not having pain. And I need to stretch my calves daily. I got referred for PT for gait retraining, a recommendation for OTC orthotics, and we talked about swimming being a good alternate activity for me. He mentioned water aerobics/water fitness classes, too. So I'm an old lady now I guess.

Overuse injuries are so tough, tiramisu . I hope the PT helps.
I spent yesterday afternoon at a conference for work, and it was really interesting, and I enjoyed the vast majority of it. I saw my grad school PI, though, and that was a confusing experience. *poof* Anyway, she was at the conference and was presenting a poster, and I stopped by because it's a small town, and she had already recognized me, and avoiding her would have looked strange. She spent a solid half hour chatting me up all friendly-like, and now I'm annoyed at her all over again.
Wow udscoobychick that's so messed up on so many levels. I'm sorry. But seriously, what a bitch. Were you getting everything done that needed to be done? If so, there's no problem. Even if you just managed to work more efficiently than her. I'm annoyed on your behalf.
One of my best friends still doesn't have her PhD (nor her MS) because her lab was so unsupportive and toxic that she just kind of stopped doing science. I hate the power just a couple people can have over your academic future. Sending you a virtual glass or two of your favorite relaxing beverage.
