(This pic is solely to make you hungry and let me be able to poof DD later.)
But ballet buns. DD needs to wear a ballet bun for her recital this month. Only problem? Short hair. I can’t even pull all of it into a ponytail.
Any help or suggestions? We’re going to play around with it in the evenings, but considering I have a child who doesn’t let me touch it often, I have no foundation for doing hair.
Here’s the only recent pic that gives a good idea of her hair. Excuse the horsing around.
The donut really helps. Kaci's friend has really short hair like your DD's and the donut is way too much. Her mom uses a number of different products and basically pins, clips, and sprays the hell out of it. It looks like a mini top not, I'm talking quarter size. Does the studio have any suggestions?
One of DD’s friends swept all hair back into a tiny ponytail then attached a bun with fake hair that matched her hair. I have no idea on specifics but it looked awesome!
She did have the donut bun done to her any bibbity biology bop salon about a year and a half ago. It lasted about 30 mins before it hurt to much and was pulled out, but she was 4 and her hair was a lot shorter back then.
Another idea is to do 2 French braids back to the fake hair bun. Sometimes that’ll keep the hairs contained a bit better than just trying a gazillion Bobby pins.
And I love that pic! I have dozens of DH with both kids riding on him that way!

Not long enough to French braid. I have tried many times. I’m going to try slathering her up with DH’s hair product to see if I can at least get everything sort of pulled back into a ponytail to get the fake hair put on.
I’m halfway considering posting on Nextdoor to see if there’s anyone in the neighborhood who wants to try. She will let other people (especially people she doesn’t know well) do all kinds of things to her hair, but when I try, it’s like I’m stabbing her with needles.
I think I would rebel. Her hair is too short. She’s not going to have a bun. Then I would throw in (outside of her hearing if possible) “Her hair is short because she had brain surgery” if anyone got pissy. Let’s put this in perspective. This isn’t the Met and she’s not with the NYC ballet. It’ll be okay if she is bunless.
I'm with mommyatty. Scrap the bun. Pull back the bangs a little so they don't flop in her face while she dances. Don't ask permission, just show up like that. As a former dance teacher, trust me, not a big deal. There will be kids who are much more of a hot mess come recital time.
This brings me bad flashbacks!! I seriously considered shaving the underside of DD’s head at 5 because there was a crazy mess of baby hairs that would not go anywhere near the bun. DD2 didn’t do ballet - PTSD!
I’m very glad to have permission to skip the bun. Sometimes you just need that affirmation. I’m sure she’s glad about it too! ... not sure what to do with the fake hair being delivered...

I think skipping is fine. If you want to use the hairpiece you might be able to pull off a high half pony tail bun. Then again if they don't match it could look way worse.
But yeah if there is every a time to play the brain surgery card, now would be it.
I really hope you skipped the bun. Her hair is too short and she looked adorable miserable. Dance is fun so let her have fun who cares what her hair ended up looking like.
