A started babbling last night. "Babababa" type noises that we haven't heard yet! It was adorable!
Also I had a conversation with E today about marriage. It started with him saying randomly "mommy, you're married to daddy." Led to me explaining that someday he'll find someone he wants to be with and get married. We went through the guest list - mommy, daddy, auntie, your mom and dad, daddy's mom and dad. Not J or R (from DC). And not one of the other Es, because he's a T Rex. Also, he wants to marry "Princess Katie" whose wedding we went to in Oct (that's why he calls her a princess, lol). The whole conversation just killed me it was so cute!
estrellita DS1 asked me to marry him a couple of weeks ago, and it was the cutest thing ever. It is funny hearing them talk about marriage!
H tried to explain the child internment camps to J last night, and that was an interesting conversation. We actually did better than I expected at giving him the facts in a non-traumatizing-to-him way. I am taking him to a rally next weekend and I'm excited to get him involved in fighting for what is right.
E is such an adorable age (5 months), and I'm loving his giant smiles and giggles and happy shrieks. It's the best!
HoneySpider- 7/18 is the day DH and I hike Mt Whitney (tallest peak in the contiguous US), which is also the day I knew I wanted to marry him (we had been dating about 6 months...he proposed the next year on 7/25 the day after I hike Mt Whitney with friends because he was studying for his CPA exams). I would say it’s a great day for baby!! Excited for you- so close!
We decided to leave for vacation tomorrow instead of Sunday and stay with DH’s other BFF (local one and him were all best men in each other’s weddings). So now we will be going 8 nights/9days. L’s sleep has been horrible so I am already tired LOL and super anxious how they will sleep together and whether or not this will be a fun vacation. I hope so! It’s one of my favorite places (although a different part of the lake)! I almost moved there and had dreams of owning a physics therapy practice there, snowboarding in winter, and hiking in summer!
Took the boys to our lake with friends yesterday! So fun! We went with DH local BFF wife and kiddos. I will be watching them some this upcoming school year (2x/month) so good to hang out with them and see everyone playing so nicely! We are meeting up with them today for a “hike” and treasure hunt (there are fairies hidden on the trail)!
So much to do today! Laundry, cleaning, packing (a lot that I can’t finish til the boys are in bed/wake up tomorrow morning)...thankfully I started packing on tuesday so we are getting there! Want to stop by Trader Joe’s and possibly bake brownies!
Yay! Congrats ewall. I love the pictures on FB. You look great.
katespade- my SIL started posting things like “today is the greatest day ever.” “I’m so excited for the end of the year!” Etc on Facebook after we told her. Not very subtle... Urg.
We only told MIL and FIL we were going to the hospital because we were living with them at the time. My MIL did very well with hiding it, she even went to her families Christmas Eve party and just said I wasn’t feeling up to attending, and they were all shocked when DH called MIL and said we had a baby.
I really liked that she was born at 9pm as that stopped most people from coming to the hospital. (We did tell our parents and siblings that they could come, as we knew the hospital would ask them to leave around 11 as their policy is to have most visitors gone before 11, unless the parents insist that people stay. Which we said we wanted to be alone after that.)
luv2rn4fun- I hope they both sleep well on your trip.
DD is all over with her sleep lately and dh thinks that it’s because we have transitioned to giving dd a sippy cup at night instead of a bottle, as she drinks more in the bottle. She also falls asleep with the bottle and she self soothes to sleep in her crib with the sippy cup. So last night he gave her a bottle and she fell asleep on his lap and then slept through the night. Which is great but I’m trying to get her to self soothe to sleep so we don’t struggle if she doesn’t fall asleep with a bottle. Urg

We met up with our friends for the Fairy Trail hike. It was a ton of fun (both boys loved it)...except L fell 3 times, hitting his head twice 🙁. He seems ok but I am of course worried. Not good timing since we are leaving first thing tomorrow too. I was able to put ice on him (I had packed a lunch for them to eat in the stroller on the way home). I had tried putting him back in the stroller but he wasn’t having it since everyone else was walking. I finally made him sit after he hit his head again.
And one of the girls who had lunch out with us yesterday just informed us that the fever her son had was not due to teething after all, but HFM. Great. Here's hoping we avoid it.
luv2rn4fun- as long as he’s acting fine, and his normal self then I wouldn’t be too worried. If he throws up or anything then maybe take him in to see the doc.
grover- Urg, that’s frustrating. I hope you guys don’t get it.

Welp, it's official. My kid is definitely a Minnesotan. He's outside playing with the water table while I'm holding A inside. H just told me that he said "uff-da, it's hot out here" 🤣 I don't think either of us has ever said that other than as an occasional joke so he must have picked it up at DC! Haha.
Anyone have any anecdotes about getting a sunburn during first tri and everything being okay? Because I’m an idiot. I spent four hours at an event today and I didn’t bother with sunscreen because I actively made sure to stay in the shade the whole time I was there. Somehow, even with being in the shade, I have a sunburn. It’s bad. Like, really bad. I’m freaking out as I’m watching it get redder and redder, convinces that I’ve done damage to the baby.
How am I so stupid? Ugh. I’m an idiot. I’m so mad at myself, and so terrified.

It should be fine. Stay hydrated, use aloe on the burn, take tylenol.

katespade owww. Hope it heals fast! Obviously not a doctor but I'm assuming it's unlikely you would cause any harm to baby with a sunburn. Definitely lots of water and lotion/aloe!

I’m mostly freaking out because I had a sunburn escalate to second degree burns and sun poisoning about five years ago. From what google says, if that happens it can effect baby. I know it’s a super unlikely and rare complication from a sunburn, but since it happened once from what should have been a minor burn, I’m terrified of it happening again.
Not much you can do now, but for future reference, pregnant women do burn more easily, so you really do need to wear sunscreen all the time, even if you think you won't be getting too much sun.
MrsAggie got a bad burn during her first pregnancy, and that baby is FINE. (I miss her, btw)

Ah yikes. No fun! Like pooh8402 said, skin is usually more sensitive during pregnancy. I had a weird reaction to a deodorant I had been using while I was pregnant with A and I've been scared to try it again!

Well, we made it! Took about 10 hours (we are still an hour away from our vacation destination but staying at friends house tonight). The drive started with C vomiting twice in the first 2 hours (he was fine when he woke up and after he took a short 30 min nap. Both boys didn’t nap well in the car and bedtime is still going for C (finally got L to bed after tons of tears from both kids. I am enjoying the fun moments but this no break for over a week is going to make me go crazy. I hope it gets better but I am not optimistic at this point.
