Anyone else there with wavy hair? My hair forms some ringlets mostly on the bottom layer, but the rest is wavy. I have to scrunch product in to get anything though.
I need shampoo/conditioner recommendations...my hair also seems a little dry.
Any other product recommendations or tips? post em
Following. My hair is wavy/curly and frizzy on bottom, and fine and mostly straight on top. Dry, and has no volume, at least not at the crown where I want it.
I am mostly a lurker but I love deva curl I have wavy hair and it has helped a ton. They have a line for wavy hair. It look my hair a few weeks to get to used to the products but now my hair has never been healthier.

I use pureology’s hydrate line, a heavy duty moisturizer mask a couple times a week and oil. For product, I use AG Curl Trigger or Ouidad’s anti-frizz gel. The name is escaping me at the moment.
To add moisture I use just regular coconut oil and apply it to the ends of my hair before showering and I put it up in a bun to soak in while I shower and wash my hair last. That also helps cut down on frizz.
My hair is too thick to go completely sulfate free, I need lather to get the product through my hair but I do love the DevaCurl hair towel to ‘plop’ my hair to dry. I also use a John Frieda mousse and DevaCurl Coconut Curl cream.
For shampoo/conditioner I like John Frieda’s brunette line. I also make sure to only add shampoo to the top of my hair/scalp and conditioner to the ends.

I like the Verb sea shampoo & conditioner. But lately I am noticing conditioner weighs my hair down (it's very fine) so my routine has been: shampoo, slightly towel dry with DevaTowel, spray some sort of leave-in conditioner/ detangler (I rotate between It's a 10, Bumble & Bumble, Dry Bar, and Brigeo), then scrunch in DevaTowel, then apply verb curl cream and scrunch with my hands. Then leave it alone and when almost dry, hit with hairspray.
Thanks guys. I forgot to mention Deva Curl shampoo/conditioner seemed to make my hair fall out, which sucks cuz I know it works great for a lot of people.
I have the same problem majesty318 I think my hair is fine even though I have quite a bit of it, so it gets weighed down...but it also needs a lot of moisture. Basically it's a mess, lol.
I use verb sea shampoo and Pantene proV conditioner. I shampoo every other day and condition every night. On shampoo days I also use Moroccan argan hair oil on damp hair. I never blow dry. I run a comb through right out of the shower and air dry. Before bed I usually loosely braid my hair in different sections. In the morning it gives my wavy hair more body and better curl. I never brush my hair in the morning.

I'm watching this thread.
My hair is wavy/curly but I straighten most days. More curly underneath, wavy on those bottom layers. More straight towards the top. I've never gotten a good curl out of it. Plus I have a ton of thick hair. I'm essentially in a pony tail every day in the summer. Lots of humidity here and my hair ends up super frizzy even after straightening.
I know I should probably figure out a way to work with it. But when I have tried to let it dry naturally it takes hours, so no way to style it really.

The cut is the most important step IME. I have fine hair but a crap ton of it. Layering makes a huge difference as well as some "thinning" to tame and control.

This sounds exactly like mine. Not evenly wavy/curly and I can't seem to work with waves and make it look good. I have a ton of hair, too, that takes like 4 hrs to air dry on a good day.
Shorter hair turns into a fluffy, frizzy mess on me.
I'm also watching this thread because it would be so nice to not have to flatiron my hair all of the time. I hate it!

Oh yeah, it gets thinned out every haircut, if I didn't, oh boy. But I don't think I'm getting the best cuts. Which I think is part of my frustration right now.
We moved and I haven't found someone who can actually cut my hair. I'm almost tempted to drive the hour back to my old girl (whom I had a love/hate hair relationship with too). Ugh.

yeah, actually "styling" my hair is a no-go. If I try to it turns into a mess. the more I touch it the more the "curl" breaks up into frizzy wave. I had to find a cut that allows it to just do its thing. Any styling takes place while it's soaking wet. (add product, scrunch basically. Maybe some more detailed fiddling if some of the pieces near my face is being weird) And then it just dries into whatever shape it's going to dry into while I try not to play with it. approx 85% of the time, as long as my cut is reasonably recent (I try to stretch them too far because I'm cheap), that results in something I think is cute. The other 15% of the time I just pretend it's not happening. Or clip back the top half if it's long enough. Those percentages start to shift as I let it go too far between cuts.
Following because my DD1 has thick, wavy hair. It's thicker than mine now, as an adult, much less mine as a kid; and I have never had wavy hair outside of an ill-advised perm in the '80s. I've been trying to figure out how to take care of it so that I can teach her (she's 10).
I have yet to find a product that is too much moisture for her hair or weighs it down/makes it greasy -- it just drinks up everything I've thrown at it. So far we seem to get the best results (less frizz, fewer tangles, holds its shape better) from Carol's Daughter Hair Milk as a leave-in conditioner after she takes a bath at night, with the Hair Milk Refresher spray in the mornings/between washes.
I used to have stick straight hair until I hit my 30s and now I have wavy, almost curly hair. The curlyhair subreddit has some great advice.
Over the last several years I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to manage my new hair type. I first started with Deva Curl products and they just weighed my hair down and made it oily/flat. Then I tried Jessicurl products and I really like some of the products, but the shampoo/conditioner caused a lot of hair loss for me. However, I highly recommend their videos on how to style curly/wavy hair. This is the video I used to first learn.
Then I tried AG Curly Hair products and they worked okay, but my hair wouldn't curl up and the wave seemed to be less wavy, plus it would fade my hair color quickly. So I switched to sulfate & silicone free products. I have the ability to use very high end shampoo/conditioner, but there are quite a few options that significantly less expensive. I also struggle with products that have certain ingredients that irritate my acne-prone skin so I am particular about what I use.
I have 2b high porosity hair. My current routine:
Once every 2 weeks I wash with Kerastase Discipline Bain Fluidealiste as a clarifying wash.
Between those washes, I co-wash (conditioner only) every 4 days using Kerastase Densifique Fondant Densite
After co-washing, I use another round of conditioner (Kevin Murphy Angle.Rinse) for 'Squish to Condish' which is a way of activating conditioner to push water into your hair. I rinse about 50% of the conditioner out using this method.
Then on soaking wet hair I put a handful of gel in my shoulder length fine hair using 'praying hands' and the scrunch my hair to begin activating the wave/curl. I am still on a lookout for good gel, but currently use Deva Curl defining gel. Then I use AG Re-Coil curl activator creme. I use about a 50 cent piece size amount with 'praying hands' and scrunch my hair again.
My hair is still very wet at this stage. I use an old t-shirt rather than a microfiber towel to avoid frizz. I use the old t-shirt to scrunch some of the water out of my hair and dry it a bit while activating the clumping/curl/wave. Then I plop and wrap in that old t-shirt for about 10 minutes.
I use Carol's daughter black vanilla spray leave-in conditioner before diffusing with a blowdryer until about 50% dry using cool setting and then let my hair air dry (usually 30 minutes). Then scrunch out the gel crunch for wavy hair.
I sleep using a pineapple ponytail and a satin bonnet.
On day 2 & 3 I just spray my hair with water and the Jessicurl Awe Inspiraling Spray curl refresher. Scrunch to re-activate curls and then once it dries, scrunch the crunch. Day 4 I pin it up.
I have super wavy/curly hair, and I'm currently in the hunt for a new shampoo. I was really happy with BTZ Noodlehead Cleanse Your Curls, but it has recently been discontinued. I'm currently using Pureology Curl Complete Shampoo, and I'm not a fan. I do have it dialed in for styling products though. My favorite duo is Devines This Is A Curl Building Serum on wet hair, and Kevin Murphy Easy Rider Anti Frizz Creme once my hair is dry. Scrunch and go.
Thanks guys. I forgot to mention Deva Curl shampoo/conditioner seemed to make my hair fall out, which sucks cuz I know it works great for a lot of people.

I have curly hair and I love the Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me wash. It's perfect for me and the only sulfate free shampoo that seems to not make my curls droop or dry out.

My hair fell out also!
Mine did too! I’m sorry this happened to you guys also, although it’s a bit of a relief to see that I’m not the only one, because everyone I’ve mentioned this to acts like I’m a crazy fool for thinking this.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

Wen did also. I think they’re such heavy cleansers and would clog my follicles. I would also get huge pimples on my scalp. It was gross.

This towel has made a big difference, frizz-wise, quickly. It's basically cotton with a microfiber layer inbetween. The issue I had with using an old t-shirt was that my hair was still sopping wet when I was ready to walk out the door. This soaks up the excessive water so my hair isn't dripping when I am ready to leave.
