The kid talked about going to see the Incredibles 2 tonight. I am super excited to see it because Incredibles was the first movie DS was ever taken with and it played daily for about 6 months. It was a good movie, so I didn't mind and it wasn't Barney or Thomas the Train, so grateful. However, I really just want to chill with a glass of wine tonight. I would feel a little guilty because DH and I going to a music festival tomorrow afternoon without the kids. They had their chance , but said they didn't want to go. For $50 a ticket, I wasn't going to listen to them wine about the heat and being bored. DH did take them to see Jurassic World Tuesday, so they aren't totally deprived.
Sunday, I am hoping for a chill day. An unplanned day. We will see what happens. I have a fresh watermelon and homegrown tomatoes and corn on the cob to have with burgers, which sounds wonderful. It is supposed to be hotter than the gates of hell, so we may need to find some water.
I think I picked a good place to vacation since it’s 60-70 here and back home is under a heat advisory of up to 100.
Anyway we have a tour this morning and then fly back tomorrow. Pick the kids up Sunday and drive back. Monday buy a car apparently after work. Tuesday work and then the day off for the 4th.
What is everyone doing for the holiday? We have an event at the community center that I am debating whether we should go or not. DH tends to not like those that much, but I like to get out and socialize with whoever I run into in the community. Not planning to stay for fireworks since it won’t start until super late and way past kids bedtimes. I am pretty strict on bedtimes because dealing with overtired kids is not my idea of a good time.
I’m heading to Austin this afternoon for my annual college roommate trip! I took a half vaca day. I so cannot wait. The kids are busy 7:25-9:00 in summer and work is insane and I so need a break. My niece is doing mermaid hair tips on middle DD and she’s super excited. Both kids have soccer.
Next week is low key and I am hoping it’s not chaos. We have afternoon sitters and I’m hoping the kids will sleep in some.

We are hea back to our old city for the weekend and will be busy meeting up with friends. We are kicking off the weekend with a late dinner (at 8:30!) with my former semi-mentor and I can't wait. He is one of my favourite people on the planet and his wife is the funniest person you'd meet, and we all get along great.

I took today off last minute. We are switching to “unlimited” pto on July 1 and aren’t getting paid out for our remaining accrued days. I have 10 days accrued left so am trying to use at least one of them. This irritates me on so many levels. I’m going around to a million stores to minimize options for our bathroom remodel.
Ds1 has a race this weekend but I had already volunteered at church sat evening so I will drive to the track after that with Ds2. Sunday will watch Ds race and back home late to get ready for the week.
sandandsea - I totally don’t get what unlimited PTO is. I keep hearing it - explain?
You take what you need and don’t accrue days as you work. You can take as many days as you want theoretically. So you don’t get a set 20 days a year and you can use 20 days in January without having to work all year to accrue them before you can take them off. It usually results in people taking fewer days and the company not having a large pto accrual Liability on their balance sheet and it looks great from a recruiting perspective. So total win for the company but experienced professionals know it’s not a win for them because you can’t take all your days and you don’t get paid out anything if you leave.

Tonight I'll probably take the kids to the beach and let them watch the sunset. Tomorrow is yardwork for me and playing in the sprinkler for the kids. Sunday I will drive about an hour to go do yoga at a vineyard followed by a little wine and brunch.
It's supposed to be brutally hot so I wouldn't be surprised if our actual plans turn out very differently.
rere I loved the Incredibles. There was some good relatable humor about a two working parent family (since they’re both superheroes). Is there a fancy theater near you where you can enjoy wine while watching?
Tomorrow we’re havig a pre-4th of July party with some friends. I’m having steamed crabs sent cross country from Maryland.
Today is our last day at work/preschool/daycare/camp before we go on vacation next week. It’s been over a year since we’ve taken a week-long trip and I’m excited. It definitely won’t be terribly relaxing - we’re flying 2.5 hrs with the 3 kids, then camping for 3 nights with a group of 53 people (organized by a good friend/coworker of mine, and in an RV at least), then renting a house in our friends’ neighborhood for the next 3 nights. Buts I’m super excited to just focus on family and forget about work. I’m hoping that’s possible since the holiday is in the middle of the week. I’m putting on an out-of-office message for the first time since 2016.

Unfortunately no. None of the local theaters have stepped up yet, but they are building a new one that I have hopes for next year. Just your standard $50 worth of popcorn, cokes, and candy.
We drop off the kids tonight and then DH and I leave for Cancun on Sunday! I was really, really looking forward to this trip as a reset button for us to get away. But now, DH is spiraling in some weird, depressed mood because it finally hit him that I threatened divorce months ago. He claims he didn't get a chance to process that until now because he's been busy with work. Which... feels like a large part of the problem? So as of last night, we're barely speaking, he just wants to stay in bed all day and not engage with the world, and I offered to cancel the trip to get him some mental health care. Total shit show. I honestly have no idea what's going to happen. I told him that honestly, he needs to at least try to "fake it til he makes it" because otherwise he is going to just dig himself deeper into a funk that he can't get out of. Especially since I was under the impression that we had put some things in place to move forward in a positive way with our relationship. That was apparently not true? I don't know. I just really wanted to have a nice week away with my husband so we could get back on track.

It is super hot here (close to or over 100 with heat index)! Thankfully we're escaping tomorrow to a less hot place. I am working today and then tonight I need to pack for the week and start loading the camper. We're leaving tomorrow morning for a week-long stay in the (lakeshore/beach) town where my parents grew up and now have a cottage. It's supposed to be beautiful weather (sunny and low 80s) all week, so I expect lots of time doing all our favorite 4th of July week activities: going to the beach, going mini-golfing, getting ice cream, eating at our favorite restaurants (our camper is really more like a hotel room for this trip - we just sleep, take showers, and eat breakfast there), spending time with family, watching the Independence Day parade, watching the fireworks, going to the playground...
Heatwave happening here too... The boys have gymnastics in the morning. Then I hope we can get the house ready for our party next weekend. On Sunday, we are going to my nephew's graduation party, which is at a local park with very little shade. It's going to be hot and miserable. Next week will be a short week for me - I'll be off Wed - Fri. I can't wait!

Everyone who is headed on vacation - have a great time!
twinmomma, I hope your DH can pull himself out of his funk and just get on the plane. I think different scenery does wonders for the mood.
Brutal heat here this weekend too so plans include grocery shopping, pool, maybe some decluttering of DS’ room and more pool time. We’re having our neighbors over tomorrow night and hopefully I can get my 5 mile run in on Sunday morning. I doubt I’ll get my 3 miles in today considering a feels like temp of 104. I hate when weather messes with my running.
No big plans for the 4th. We usually head to the local park for fireworks. Since I just got back from vacation I didn’t take any time off.
Today I took DS to lunch and bought him some hermit crabs so we’ll be figuring them out this weekend too.
justcheckingin73, Same. I think I can get my run in Saturday. With church Sunday, I am trying to decide if I should just risk it around 11:00 and basically melt on the roadside, or set my alarm to go early. I despise my alarm on the weekends, but if I haven't ran by 3-4 on Sunday, its not going to happen. No way I am waiting until maybe 8 when is cools off some.
We are headed home today. My whole family was lamenting the end of vacation, and I was basically beaming. Lol.
No plans this weekend, but next week is a cluster. We have tickets to an evening at the symphony in the park with fireworks. The kids have a 4th of July parade at camp on the 3rd. I have to go have some moles removed. Just an insane week. So this weekend I plan on resting up. And planning DD’s party in a couple of weeks.
Dealing with CenturyLink Saturday morning. Got roped into helping my mom decorate a cake Saturday morning also. I bought a pool today so will set that up hopefully. Sunday DD has a bday party to go to at 3.
I banged my chin cooking dinner tonight and it caused a massive headache instantly which is a side affect from my concussion and I totally blew up at DH which took some of the elephant weight off.

It should be a normal weekend. Chores, swimming lessons, maybe the farmers market on Sunday. Hopefully get the house tidy enough that we can enjoy it a little.

We had a neighborhood grill out yesterday, which was very fun and relaxing because we weren't the ones setting up or grilling. It was amazing.
Today is an easy day. I want to see Incredibles but....can a whine for a minute? Sorry I'm going to do it anyway: 1) I feel like I need to invite my mom b/c she really wants to go see that movie. Whether or not she goes, though, it will be a very long conversation on the phone about the movie and many other things. So I've been putting off calling her. 2) I hate choosing my seat ahead of time for movies. I love having reserved seats, but I hate having to look at the seating charts and figure out what seat I want, especially if I'm choosing on behalf of other adults who might complain.
Of course, both of things things together means I'm going to wait until the last minute and all that will be available are crappy seats...so really no worries.

I ended up running in the pool on Friday. DS wanted me to make a whirlpool and pull him on his boogie board around the pool so I put on my Apple Watch to track exercise and I essentially got my run in. It was hard but still was almost deceptive exercise - my legs were hurting yesterday. I may incorporate another swim/run in this week if it’s too hot.
Had a few beers last night which did not bode well for my 9 am run today. Only did 4 miles and walked some of the way which I never do. It’s disappointing but I have to listen to my body. Do not want an injury or sickness.
Our trip was amazing. It was jarring to come back to reality. 3 hour time difference to pick up the kids, going from 65 and cool to 95 and humidity like you are taking a bath. On the drive home the brakes on the rear drivers side is basically out totally grinding no brake pad left.
Ah back to reality of fixing every broken thing, and we haven’t even gone back to work yet. Also the trade in car is in my name and DH wants to buy the new car in his name, and I wasn’t planning to go to the dealership but I might have to anyway... it’s my first day back to work and I really don’t want to leave early to buy a car. Plus the brakes are so bad on the other car. DH is trying to get parts to do them himself but there might be a piston issue. And I have tons of laundry.
