We are remodeling a large basement area to serve as both an activity space but also storage. There will be a walled off storage area and then a more finished section where we will have a table for crafty kid stuff, a tv/gaming system area with a couch and some random toy things.
There is a window but it is not an egress window. I was going to have an egress window installed. It was quoted at about 9K. Now they tell me that they need permits which could delay us by six weeks. Many people are telling me not to bother with the egress window.
I guess the only real concern/ reason to have them is in case of a fire right? We have a door right by the basement so it wouldn’t be a concern of mine but maybe different layouts would have a concern?
in our state, an egress window is required to count the finished space in the total square footage of the house (which in theory increases the value.) that pricing sounds within normal range for here (we are in a Medium COLA).
