I wouldn't have a big party but we are having J baptized the day after his birthday so all the family will be here. So we are doing a baptism and birthday party. It will probably be his only big party until he is older. On his actual birthday it will just be the 3 of us. Go to the park, swing, take a walk, eat at chick fil a since he loves it, eat a cupcake.
We've never had a birthday party for H. For her first birthday, my MIL came to visit and we had a fantastic intimate day with the four of us, playing with balloons, opening presents, smashing cake, and eating all of H's favorite foods.
We moved the weekend of her second birthday. At least we moved to be near family, so we all went out to dinner and then had cake.
She's been asking for a "purple party at the park" with cake and pizza, so I suspect we'll need to do better for her third birthday.
King26, S did that trust fall thing into my arms once and found it SO funny that he kept doing it on purpose. Fortunately it only lasted a day, lol. I wish I had advice on how to get him to fall more gracefully so he doesn't hit his head. S would always just plop down before he started walking. As for the food, if you are concerned about it you could call your pedi and see what they suggest?
I am currently planning J first birthday party as he turned 11 months yesterday. How are they getting so old???
I also struggle with feeding him. He chokes on everything but doesn't want purees unless they are in a pouch. I don't know what I'll feed him once he's off formula and I have no clue how to wean off bottle or formula. He currently has a pouch at every meal plus a few ounces of puree of I can get it in him, and mini pieces of bread, fruit, pasta, or chicken.
Question...j is cruising all over the place which is great but....when he gets to the end of the furniture he lets go and does a dead fall backwards. It's like a freaking trust fall. He's been doing it for a month. I catch him 95% of the time but he's fallen and hit his head at least 4 times...how so I get him to stop this?
I kept A on formula until about 15 months because I was worried she wasn't getting enough iron. There was all sorts of stuff you're supposed to do at 12 months that I just ignored.

King26, how small are the pieces you are giving him? If they are too small, he may have problems moving the food around his mouth. I cut E's food so it's about a 1/2 inch, like the size of a puff, but not round. I would definitely discuss it with his pedi at his 1 year appt.
Any way to keep a kid off the couch? Heh. E wants to do nothing except climb on the couch, and she's not careful so I have to watch her like a hawk.

They are puff sized or a little smaller. With fruit he is usually fine with puff size but other things need to be smaller. I'll definitely talk to the pediatrician about it.
thoseareradishes, no advice--sage loves to climb but for some reason the couch he cannot get up.
He IS, however, obsessed with going over to our bar and trying to get all the glassware out. I am picking up a fence today to get that under control, lol.

Let her climb! That's how she learns. The couch is one of the safest things for a kid to climb.

It makes me so nervous! She fell off Wednesday, only fell about 15 inches but it really scared me, especially with her head surgery. The biggest issue is she likes to stand up and hang over the back, which is a definite no-no. We're moving in a couple of weeks and the couch will be against the wall, so hopefully that helps. The kid has no fear whatsoever.
shauni27, we have a baby fence around our entertainment center and locks on all but a couple of our kitchen cabinets. She loves to get into the pantry and play with the cat food cans. I can't take my eyes off this kid ever!
thoseareradishes, yes, we have a fence around the entertainment area and a large wall of book shelves. Then every drawer in the kitchen has locks and we close doors to bathrooms and bedrooms unless we are in there with him.
The only area we do not have "protected" is the bar area and the fire place, which we will want to try to block off when it get's time for fires again.

No clue, sorry. Anna loves to do parkour around the various couches and chairs. I really need to sign her up for gymnastics...
thoseareradishes, I should have added that I would be nervous about her falling as well, especially with the head surgery. We keep working with Sage whenever he climbs up on the couch the proper way to get down. "feet first for safety!" and hope that it will eventually stick, lol.

We just signed E up for "ninja" classes at a local gymnastics gym. 2 days a week.
J finally figured out how to get down from cruising without doing the backwards fall!!! It took a month th but now he slides down to his knees to get down. Thank goodness!!
