I've got a work trip to Atlanta next week, and I've never been. I haven't figured out my hotel yet, but I'll need to be near Midtown.
I'll have a few hours to myself, so I imagine I can get in one tourist attraction. What should I do? I am not wild about aquariums, so anything but that.
I'll also have one or two dinners by myself. Restaurant suggestions?
Finally, I usually use Lyft. Does it have a good presence in Atlanta, or would I be better off with cabs or Uber to get to/from airport and around the city?
If you will be in midtown, I recommend walking through Piedmont Park to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. It is really nice and they have a great exhibit going on now through October. Lyft works well here. I usually price the trip between both Uber and Lyft and pick the cheapest, but they are usually within a dollar or two.
There are a ton of restaurants all around Midtown that will be easy to walk to. I'm not really a foodie person, so I'll let others chime in on restaurant selections.
- Ponce City Market is fun and has a nice food hall - Hattie B's for fried chicken (if you don't mind waiting in line) - Antico for pizza - Ditto Fox Bros - Cypress St. Pint & Plate (this might be the only food rec that's actually in Midtown, all others are nearby) - High Museum or Botanical Garden
We use Lyft all the time and prefer it to Uber. Definitely has a good presence in Atlanta.
Agree about the Civil Right Museum. There is also the College Football Hall of Fame which may not sound good but is awesome. We love the Botanical Gardens, the High is good, and Atlanta History Center is interesting.
Lots of good restaurants. Agree that Ponce City Market has a lot of good options, and you could (if you wanted to spend the money) go to the roof where there are bars and games and a great view. Clermont Lounge, which has an interesting history in Atlanta, just reopened and has a great rooftop bar as well. We love Ecco, for a nice sit down meal, as well as JCT Kitchen, both easy to get to from Midtown.
Is there a specific type of food you like? That may help with suggestions as well.

Depending on where you end up staying, I’d consider taking Marta to and from the airport. It’s a substantial walk from baggage claim to the Uber/Lyft pickup area, and traffic going through town sucks. Around town, however, Lyft is great.
I'm staying at the Hyatt Regency, which looks pretty close to Olympic Park.
I'm not used to hot weather and am afraid I will melt, so I'm not sure how much outdoor stuff I will want to do, but maybe I'll get lucky with the weather.
frlcb -- foodwise, I like everything. Would love some places with local history or have great southern food. I'll check out the places you mentioned!
ellipsis -- thanks for the tip on Hattie B's! Last month, two different people I know went to the one in Nashville and bragged about it on Facebook, and I've never seen food that looks so delicious. I am going to have to make that happen.
muppetinma - thanks for the heads up on Marta and the airport. After I wrap up on Wednesday, I'll need to head out to the airport during rush hour. I just mapped it from the location where I'll be working that day, and it's a super easy straight shot so I will be doing that. Thank you!

Marta is super easy to the airport. The Hyatt is a good location. I would do JCT Kitchen and then walk around the corner to Jeni's for ice cream. Taqueria del Sol is good too for a very quick, casual place. Wisteria, Empire State South, andSouth City Kitchen are other options for southern food. I love BoccaLupo, which isn't Southern but Italian but so good.
Check out Ponce City Market. It’s got a great roof top. Net opened is the Clairmont hotel. The restaurant, Tiny Lous is great and it’s really well designed.
Uber and Lyft are easy ways to get around. It’s about $17 bucks from the airport to your hotel area. Marta from the airport is also pretty easy.
Hattie B’s is really good. The chicken is amazing and the banana pudding is one of the best I’ve ever had.
In Midtown. Henry’s has great pub food and an awesome patio. The vortex has a good vibe and burgers.
