Well its Monday. I came back to the usual. A ton of work, a crazy schedule more in my home life and doctors appointments and a few work WTFs. Like employers with good intentions, but doing illegal things, so we had to gently remind him that you can't ask people that information (deep eyeroll). It hasn't been as bad a re-entry as our Seattle vacation, but the WTFs certainly don't help. It also doesn't help that one of my staff members is on the way out, and is just being super annoying about it or that I have the same meeting booked on two different dates.

Today is my Friday. 42 hours of work Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I'm ready to do nothing. The only thing I have planned is to take DS shopping for DH's birthday which is Friday.

Our crazy weekdays in terms of childcare are over. Thank you, Jesus. DS starts school on Monday and we can all go back to our routines. But, now our crazy weekends begin and will go on for the next 5 weekends, we'll break for 3, go into something every weekend in October and half of November, then holiday madness. It's going to be 2019 before I know it.
We had our class reunion this weekend. Another girl and I put it on with some help from another girl. It went so great and I think everyone had a good time.
I have to leave today on a trip I don’t return from until Thursday. And I don’t have direct flights in either direction so I lose two whole days in transit. Super annoying.
And I will requify for Platinum on this trip. This is the earliest I’ve ever requalified. Normally I don’t hit it until December. So it isn’t my imagination. My travel really has sucked this year.

Got home last night. Tomorrow is my Monday, so today is settling back in and getting ready for the week.
I wrote out a massive to-do list for August, and I have to make something for tomorrow’s block party. Also getting in some exercise and some time with my therapist.
I ended up having weird tummy/bowel issues all weekend. I switch to a very low carb diet about a month ago mainly because I noticed I was super bloated/uncomfortable after eating pasta, bread, rice (heavy carbs). I've been doing pretty good and had my first hamburger on a bun Thursday for lunch and all weekend my stomach rebelled at all foods. I have no idea if I got a tummy bug or if it is something more.
DD with some help from a friend who is on team figured out how to jump from the low bar to the high bar on the uneven bars at open gym Friday night. She spent over 30 minutes climbing up and trying to jump she high fived the bar right before it was open and was so happy with herself. But from all the falling she did onto the big mats she was pretty sore and very low key this weekend.
Our two older girls had fun at DH's work and going out to lunch with him on Saturday. I enjoyed the quiet and got a run in. My family reunion was a lot of fun catching up with cousins. DD1 and DD2 swam the entire 5 hours we were there with their cousins. The night ended with DD1 crying and begging the host to stay. She was the first to fall asleep in the car. Sunday was laundry and trip planning. My SIL is starting to ask questions about the planning and I'd rather be more spontaneous since we have no idea how our kids will be. No, I can't say for certain that we'll want to stop in x city.
It's been a Monday. DD3 has an elevated temp but not a fever yet, cranky and seems to be off. Not sure if it's from getting 4 teeth in at once or something more. Of course she has to be sick on Monday morning. I have auditors here today and they've been bugging me non stop. Then found out one employee went to HR for work comp so we're trying to plan for her workload.

It started out as a total Monday. I wanted to swim a continuous 2150 yards in the pool to see if I can make a cut off of a 70.3 ironman and had to get out after only 1500 yards b/c of lightening. I was making decent time until then
Then I got DS dropped off at his photography/movie making camp and DD dropped off at her dance camp and did a group text to DS' tutor and DH so that DH would know how to take DS to tutoring. It's a half day camp so I spoke to DS about what he did (he made a movie in his mind and watched a little bit of Captain Underpants...I hope he's getting more out of this than how it sounds).
Work is slow so I'm about to dive in to this welcome email I got from DS' school that talks about open house, half day and their first school day.
I also just realized that DS is 6.5 and doesn't know how to tie his shoes. I know I learned how to do this in Kindergarten so I'm suddenly really annoyed b/c there are no velcro shoes in a size 1. Stupid Montessori school. I mean actually with all of their self care stuff you'd think he'd have learned that but he didn't...not that I know of anyway.
mustardseed2007- DD is going into first grade and is nowhere near tying her own shoes. I learned it in first grade, so I’m not terribly worried about that.
mustardseed2007, My kids just learned a couple weeks ago because my sister taught them. She's a teacher. She knew some tricks. DH and I were solidly in the "Ain't nobody got time for that" camp when we thought about adding shoe lace tying to the morning routine. They're six.
mustardseed2007, DD's 1st grad class last year was 36 at the beginning of the year only 8 kids could tie their shoes. By the end of 1st that number made it to about 50% of the class. So about 15-20 emerging 2nd graders at her school still can't tie shoes.
Don't worry about it he will figure it out and school staff tie shoes a lot. Double tie them in the morning to avoid them coming undone during the day.
mustardseed2007, I just bought a bunch of size 2 shoes from Nordstrom rack that don't have ties for DS. He's going into first grade, and we haven't had time to work on that yet. For whatever reason I ordered a bunch online and they have them, when normal places like Target don't have any.
Well I spent the day with a petulant teenager whose only job was to pick out 3 or 4 shirts for school. Couldn't do it. I have concluded he is so spoiled, he can't even consider most clothes unless it meets his obscure standards. If my mom had ever set me loose on a mall and told me to pick out anything, I would have missed school because I would have died of shock. I told Dh we should make him go to consignment, and not a good one,and Walmart from now to show how extremely privileged he is.
I also just realized that DS is 6.5 and doesn't know how to tie his shoes. I know I learned how to do this in Kindergarten so I'm suddenly really annoyed b/c there are no velcro shoes in a size 1. New Balance sells kids velcro shoes in size 1. I just bought a pair of New Balance 519 v1 in size 2 for DS1 from Kohls online for $40. They call it "alternative closure" as they have the same shoe with laces. I felt they are very true to size. The colors were pretty hum drum, but DS1's other shoes are neon blue/orange/grey so he is dealing with having a pair that are a little plainer.
Skechers also has a decent selection of velcro shoes in the little kid sizes. I didn't feel they lasted as long, but they are also only $35 regular price.

Guy's I'm so relieved to hear all of you say that!
I just really remember being in Kindergarten and learning to tie my shoes. Like it was a whole big thing. We read a book about it and brought a shoebox to school and the teacher helped us put laces in it and we practiced over and over...so I was positive this was a kindergarten skill!! That was a good 32 years ago so a few things have changed, lol!
mustardseed2007 I think it’s probably not a good thing that life skills in kindergarten have been replaced with academic stuff! But at least we’re all in the same boat.

I do remember last fall we had soccer and the kids shoelaces would come untied and I'd have to run out on the field to fix them. Of course that was almost a year ago now.

I'm debating buying an expensive ass lunch box from Pottery barn or buying a cheap one from target or the grocery store. DS kind of needs a big one cause he needs two snacks and a lunch (unless we get the catered one). But normally I get cheap character ones b/c they enjoy getting a new one each year...

mustardseed2007 - maybe look at Vans? DS is currently size 12 and found a Velcro style that he likes. Not sure what happens when he gets into the single digit styles, but I’m guessing we might find a slip-on style that he likes.
Kids are tying later these days because of the prevalence of Velcro. Don’t worry about it!
I taught DD by taking a tissue box and punching holes around the hole, and threading paracord through it. Give a little extra length for learning. Then every night RIGHT before bed, we practiced. This was the last thing before lights out and she was willing to try because the alternative was going to sleep lol. I gave her license to stall. First she just did the first part and then she did the first loop and then she did the wrap around part and finally the whole thing. Only took a week, 2 until she was a pro.

OMG I just did our fall calendar with gymnastics, tae kwon do, and soccer. We have 3 days/week with "nothing" on the calendar. UGH. Oh, an the dog's obedience.
@honeydew - I feel your pain! We have one night a week. One. Three kids in sports and activities may kill me. On that one day I still have to drive for after school - zero days with no chaos. I’m excited for the start of school and routine but dreading it too.
So far it looks like DS's soccer practice will be Tuesday. DS and DD also have soccer on Saturday, so I guess only 2 days for us. But then we also have cub scouts which is the occasional Sunday and Thursday, and I am not sure how much she might beg for girl scouts. She loved camping.
I'm trying to hold off on dance for a while since she is only 5, and it's a 10 month commitment plus recital. I would love to find one that was an 8 week class and see if she likes it rather than a 10 month class.

I am definitely in the looking forward to school. I feel bad because I love summer and hate winter, and hate that fall means winter is coming. But summer camp is $500 a week versus the $290 a week for pre-school and aftercare combined, and this year I think it will be $270 a week because she is in half day public K, so I pay for wrap around care and aftercare. And lunch is included in that. And no more drop offs. I stick them both on the bus in the morning, and then pick them both up at aftercare. My only problem with school is doing homework, but oh well.
