Some of my favorites are Local Three, Seasons 52, and all of the Buckhead Life restaurants (http://www.buckheadrestaurants.com/). I haven't been, but Restaurant Eugene is supposed to be great and their menu looks fantastic, and Canoe is a very popular restaurant as well. I have also heard great things about Aria, Wisteria and Sotto Sotto.
We have never had a bad meal at Bacchanalia, but I can see how it isn't for everyone. I would recommend La Tavola if you were to do a Buckhead Life restaurant, it is definitely the best one. Restaurant Eugene is good too, although we found it kind of stuffy. I am going to Canoe tonight for the first time, I have heard good things.

MMMMMM.....they all look delicious!!!! Ok, we are going to be by the Georgia dome (relatively - going ot a game), and it will be December. Any thoughts on narrowing it down? Are any in a plaza or something with xmas lights and we could walk around? I am not familiar with Atlanta...
I wouldn't walk around down by the Dome, not because it is dangerous (although it isn't the most safe place in Atlanta) but because there is not much down there that is worth it, IMO.
What do you mean by plaza? Like a shopping area? Or an area with a lot of bars/restaurants? Iberian Pig is in Decatur, and there are a lot of bars/restaurants/shops in that area. Ecco, Aria, Sotto Sotto, Wisteria, Restaurant Eugene, Hals, Pricci and Local 3 are not. Aria is in Buckhead, and there is a lot there, it is just on a side street. Sotto Sotto and Wisteria are in Inman Park, and again there are a few restaurants/bars around, but not that you would really spend any time walking around seeing. Abbatoir and Bacchanalia are in the West End (I guess that is what it is called, maybe West Midtown), but again just by other restaurants/bars and Georgia Tech.
Centennial Park by the Dome will be decorated for Christmas, and they usually have an ice skating rink as well. Other than that, there's not much down there and it's not the safest area.

By me there are downtown areas, usually 1 street or an outdoor shopping center, where you can eat and walk around other restaurants/bars/shops. It doesn't have to be by the dome...

Decatur would probably be the closest to this, or Virginia Highlands, where La Tavola is!
