Sephora sale next week: what's in your cart?

i saw this mentioned in the randoms thread but am making a new post so people can discuss potential purchases or rave over past purchases to help others craft their shopping lists!

Here’s how this sale works:

Rouge members (those who have spent over $1000 per calendar year) shop the event starting August 24 and ending September 3. You’ll get 20% off your purchases with the code YESROUGE.

VIB (those who have spent $350 or more per calendar year) get to start shopping on August 30 through till September 3. You’ll get 15% off your purchases with the code YESVIB.

Beauty Insiders (those who have spent less than $350 per calendar year) also start shopping on August 30 through till September 3. You’ll get 10% off your purchases with the code YESINSIDER.


Interesting to note – you can use your code only ONCE online, but as many times as you like in stores.

hmmmmm, i hadn't seen the detail about only using the code once yet, i'm not sure how i feel about that.  i like to make a few rounds of purchases usually, lol.

I’m really annoyed they moved up the date. I usually get gift cards etc for my birthday and use them during the sale. Hopefully they still do the 25 off 50 in Dec.

I need to work on my list! I will definitely pick up a backup DE C-Firma. I also really love the Herbivore Coco Rose body scrub, and I am at the bottom of my jar.

I've been pretty lazy with makeup lately, but a while back Temptalia reviewed two orange lipsticks that looked amazing. I added both to my Sephora wishlist because I wanted to get them when fall hit. I just now looked them up on Temptalia, discovered they are dupes for each other (literally each other's top match). So I think I'll either get Fenty Freckle Fiesta or Bite Arrowroot.

I can't imagine they are cancelling their November sale since it's so tied into holiday stuff. This is probably to compete with Ulta, which has opened a ton of stores and seems to be picking up more and more prestige brands.

To my knowledge this doesn't actually replace the November sale - it's just a new one they've added into the mix. This one is the "Beauty Insider Appreciation Event" and the one in November is usually called the "VIB Sale" or "VIB Holiday Event".

I haven’t been wearing much makeup lately. Summer, pregnant, &c. And when I do, I am keeping it super simple. It’s been a while since I have used more than two eye colors.

I really don’t need anything, other than skin care. Sad!

This makes sense.

I recall in the past they used to do big point promos in August. Like they had a week where you got triple points on all purchases and maybe some good stuff to buy with points. There was a huge blow up one year because they promised amazing things to redeem points on, and it was a huge fail. I think they gave everyone who complained like $25 off or something.

This new points program better be good. I constantly check the good 750+ point rewards and there is often good stuff but they have such small quantities that I’m never able to snag anything. So I just get 100 point trinkets here and there while I sit on 2500 points. I don’t need more points, I need things to buy with points!

This is part of the reason I try to buy items at Ulta or Nordstrom. At least then my points slowly add up to something useful.

I've got to be the only person in the world for whom Unseen Sunscreen was a total fail. I had bought it based on the strength of reviews. It made my face and neck itch like crazy.

As for my own cart, I have a Natasha Denona eyeshadow palette, Farmacy eye cream, and Saturday Skin moisturizer in it. Tons more of 'wants' but I'm trying to stick to just what I need to replace.

Oh good! I was in there yesterday testing samples since I really need to find a foundation that works for me. I’ve reached the point where full coverage and/or matte is a no-go zone.

Powder (torn between Laura Mercier and the new Hourglass Veil)
Bite French Press gloss in Dirty Chai

Would love some skincare stuff too but will hold off until November. Might hold off on the concealer since I can get that at Ulta and it’s not a critical need. I suspect if Sephora is doing a sale, they’ll send out a 20% coupon.

ETA: I scratched the Nars foundation. I wore the sample today and it broke up like crazy on my upper cheeks.

Both my kids broke out in what looked like hives with the supergoop stuff. They don’t have sensitive skin or known allergies. Their skin seems to react with lots of sunscreen though.

Are you platinum? Every year in August, Ulta does a platinum day where a bunch of stuff is 10X points, and I think it's 5X points on all purchases, and 10X points on a whole bunch of special items.  I checked my email and last year it was on August 21. So probably tomorrow.

Might get a backup of the Fenty foundation as well, and I'm sure I will impulse buy something from Fenty because I have a problem. I’m still on the hunt for the perfect lip balm/gloss. Most feel too heavy to me and feel like they are weighing down my lips and face. I LOVE the texture of the Dior Lip Glow and have purchased two so far, but they both turn hot pink on me (which I hate). This seems to happen with nearly every lip gloss I try. I have very pigmented lips. Any recs for something similar to the Lip Glow but in a more neutral, medium nude color (I have light/medium olive skin) that won’t turn hot pink?

You might like the Laneige lip mask. The original has a very slight tint on the lips but not really noticeable. It’s very hydrating and I use it during the day no problem. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost gloss is really nice too. They’ve expanded their shades a bit and have a few nude options. Also have you tried the Lilac version of the Dior Lip Glow? I find that one to be much more toned down compared to the pink.

Lip Glow has several other shades now, check them out!
