What a great story. Seriously--I have had a lot of the same worries you mentioned, and it's so nice to hear such an honest perspective (and that it will be okay!). Congratulations again!
I felt a different sense of victory after the delivery, knowing that I was able to roll with the punches and adjust my expectations, and not turn my daughter's birth into a traumatic event just because it didn't go exactly as I had planned
That is wonderful: I'm so happy for you! I was only a few days overdue, but it was the most stressful week: I give you tons of credit for making it all the way to 42 AND rolling with the punches. You rock!
Lurker here. I just want to thank you for sharing your story, and most importantly the last paragraph. I am 18 weeks and planning for a med-free, natural birth. I worry about my ability to let go of my expectations if needed and to reconcile what may happen with what I've been planning and expecting for months. I will try to keep your words in mind:-)
Welcome to the world Amira Julianne! (Beautiful name, too!) Congratulations to your family.
<3 I am so glad things went well and you had a good experience after all of waiting and the difficult pregnancy!
It took me about 2-3 weeks to really feel bonded with my daughter. Thankfully from the honest ladies here I knew that was totally normal so it didn't freak me out. I am glad this is a place we can share our feelings and encourage one another, your story is very encouraging!
That last paragraph should be in every book about child birth.
I could not agree more! This was a large part of the reason I had no plan - it wa my way of letting go. And it's a great way to start out parenthood - that little girl is in control now!
You had a very similar labor/delivery to mine, though mine was a vacuum assist. Have you been using ice packs? Those helped SO much.
I used the peri pad ice packs in the hospital and then frozen witch hazel maxi pads at home. However. I am trying to stop using those because I'm afraid it might be creating a moist environment for the stitches that retards the healing process. Do you have any good alternatives? I'm all ears!
did they give you epi foam? I think it numbs without being too wet. I used that and then little witch hazel pads. The nurse told me that after the first 24 hrs that ice doesn't really help anymore. As soon as I weaned off of it I felt better.
Congratulations, mom! I'm glad you are overall pleased with how things went, even if it wasn't quite how you had pictured initially. It looks like New York has something new to celebrate on Sept. 11. :-)

I used dermaplast spray post-delivery. It was awesome and doesn't leave you feeling wet.
