Going out to eat with my BFF from grade school/high school tonight. I think I may drop Ds off at the football game before and pick him up when I am done. Taking DS to a 16th birthday pool part tomorrow night. I will probably hang out with the parents - appropriately far enough away as to not be a wet blanket for the party. Dd will hang with their daughter in the house.
Working Parents: Random: I am in a rut at work. I am supervisor over several programs. However, due to budgets over the years, there are several programs that I feel should be under me that are not due to just basically filling holes in the dam. A job will be given to someone because their funds were cut and things like that.
I am submitting a proposal Monday, on my own, to the coordinator of our Senior Management. Basically, I would like to pull anyone that does work on a community level (not clinic staff), into a quarterly meeting. We have had issues with duplication of services due to lack of communication, not using money in various cost centers due to lack of communication, not having events and programs that should be reported to our strategic plan due to lack of communication, etc... You get the drift. I would propose standing items of : budget, staff reports on events involved/do we have the appropriate staff involved, and strategic plan updates.
What do you think? I put a goal of increasing efficiency and effectiveness of reporting on my evaluation. Truthfully, I am hoping someone will see that disjointedness that is now and maybe merge some of the programs under me and boost my position. I am tired of sitting back complaining, so I hope this is a proactive approach? Going up and pointing things out and asking for changed directly somehow has not gone over well in the past, believe it or not.

rere , I think that’s a great idea and a good use of a meeting. Usually I’m against more meetings on the calendar but it’s the only way to keep everyone on the same page, and like you said, get rid of the duplication of work. I hope it’s received well!
We have a busy weekend planned. DD has time trials (also a parent meeting) for cross country tonight and then goes to a team bonfire. I’m hoping someone picks up my kid at 11 because I’ll be in bed.
Tomorrow, I have grocery shopping, including getting things for school lunches and snacks for DD since XC practice is right after school and she needs all the food she can get. DD has a haircut and then a run-a-thon that night. Sunday will be another shopping day to get DS new gym shoes, DD some spikes for XC and anything else we need for the week.
Bonus - the kids start back on Wed so I took Thurs and Fri off to decompress from the summer. Looking forward to a quiet house and getting ready for our kitchen remodel. I’ve brought up the fact that we need to look at tile, paint and countertops but DH sort of nods and says nothing so I think I’m going to go out and look and make my own decisions. If he thinks differently, he can go.
We're getting our new shutters today! I'm super excited and have been waiting for weeks. Tomorrow, if the kids don't wake me up before 6am, the sun won't either. But writing the check is going to be painful.
Kids are away tonight, tomorrow we're heading to the children's museum with friends. And Sunday is my yoga retreat day! Really hoping the rain holds off so that I can enjoy the day. It's all outside, so I might lose some of the peaceful magic of yoga and meditation on the river if we're soggy all day.
I am so relieved it’s Friday. DD has to be picked up from school and dropped off at the golf course and then picked up from the golf course. It’s a lot of running around.
Tonight DD has practice, also tomorrow morning, then a team swim party. Oldest goes to PT in the morning while my mom and sister meet the puppies and we go for breakfast. Then no plans until church on Sunday but DH wants to take DS to a movie, take the dogs to meet his parents and go out to dinner. Sunday evening I may try to make a screening of Screenagers. DD has a former friend post pics of her on Insta for Snake Day so even though DD doesn’t have insta her friends blew her up asking what was wrong with the other girl. I feel like I need to .... understand more about this whole thing.
I went out last night after parent night and am dying because of margaritas.

I am leaving in a few hours for a bachelorette weekend for one of my BFF's from HS. It's going to be an interesting weekend. It is going to be a pretty chill weekend in terms of activities, but there will be quite a bit of variety in the group. It will be a couple of high school friends, a couple of her college friends, her sisters, and a couple of her new friends. Most of us have hung out together, except the new ones. This BFF is a lesbian and from a very religious but accepting home, so I don't really know what to expect. It's all creating a little bit of social anxiety that I'm trying to ignore. I don't love hanging out in big groups, especially if I don't know most of them very well. Big group of family? Fine. Hosting HS reunion a couple weeks ago? Fine. I'm sure it will all be fine and I'm mostly excited.
Sunday we have a birthday party for my niece and then I declare it birthday week as soon as we get into the car to head home from that. I also need to get a run or a gym session in at some point since I skipped this morning. I have managed to catch the cold that DD picked up from our friend's kid who picked it up from his cousins.

I work today and tomorrow. I'm off Sunday and don't have anything planned except packing and getting ready for my work trip next week. I'm coming off of a nice 3 days off. We went to our county fair one day and ate all the food.
DD1 and DH are camping. DD2 and I spent the day at the beach, and it was one of the best days I can remember. We got there early, went for a long walk to look for sea glass (found a little). Then played in the sand, lunch, and played in the water. The waves were rolling and only about 3-4 ft high, and the water was decently warm for a NE beach. Then we went to the boardwalk to ride the carousel and get an ice cream. So fun! She’s exhausted. Early bed time and takeout for me!!
DH really wants us to drive 1.5-2 hrs to his campsite tomorrow to hang out and drive 1.5 hrs back. I really, really, really don’t want to do that. I am not a camper. So I don’t know what we will do tomorrow. Sun is supposed to be awful weather so I plan to clean and catch up around the house.
Canning a whole deep sink full of tomatoes today from my garden. Saturday is errands, house work, Sunday I think DH is kayaking the river with friends. DD and I will play it by ear but I expect a quiet day at home to recover from gym camp week.
I swear DD is the only kid I know who needs recovery time after a full week of gymnastic camp. Her other friends seem no worse for wear by the end of camp week and DD is dragging and that is with sleeping 12+ hours each night.

A whole sink! I’m making pico with mine, but I only have two patio plants.

We had planned to go roller skating at school spirit night. Instead, we discovered DD1 had a major case of head lice. So we spent Friday washing and laundering and combing. Thick but fine, curly lice hair is no joke. Worse first week of school ever.
And I woke up with a terrible cold that went straight to my chest. It’s going to be a long weekend.

My weekend away is ending early. I woke up with a fever and I'm just so tired. One of the high school friends is leaving soon so I'm going back with her. I was having a good time once I got here so I'm super bummed.
Friday was my Friday off, but it was chock full of things to do. The kids and I had a chiropractor appointment, then I took them to see my office because they hadn't seen it since I moved there 2 years ago, then we went to lunch with DH, then back home to meet my parents so we could all go to visit my aunt who has cancer and my uncle was also visiting from NY.
Saturday morning we went to get the last of the school supplies. Everything was super picked-over, so I'm glad we were still able to get everything the kids needed. Saturday afternoon we took the kids to a place that has go carts and an arcade, since they had been asking to go and we actually had no plans.
Sunday is church and then DD and I are going to a playground to meet friends and then to DH's cousin's house for a pool party.
Just catching up after vacation. What does this sentence mean? Someone please break it down for me like you’re translating for a friendly but dimwitted tourist, since that’s basically what I am re: Instagram.
I DD has a former friend post pics of her on Insta for Snake Day so even though DD doesn’t have insta her friends blew her up asking what was wrong with the other girl.
Snake Day is where kids post pics of other kids they think are snakes. It might as well be called bullying day. DD’s former friend posted lots of pics of DD. DD’s friends screenshotted and shared with DD through text wanting to know why DD is a snake. DD has no idea but thinks it’s because DD is friends with boys former friend likes and the boys don’t like former friend that way.
2chatter what in the world. Isn't that considered cyber bullying and the school should have some way to reprimand it.
I got 6 quarts and 15 pints of whole tomatoes. I have 6 plants in my garden and guessing I will do another 14 pints next weekend. We've had a hotter summer than normal so my tomatoe plants are going bonkers.

Update: We have washed every scrap of fabric and every blanket in this house and I’ve spent a total of 7 hours combing hair in 3 days. I believe we are free of vermin. Let the school/work week begin.
The whole snake day thing reminds me of burn books, because I am old.... still that seems cruel.
Saturday DD has an allergic reaction to the giant bowl of ceased dressing she got into at a bbq. She doesn’t have any food allergies that we know of. But her lips swelled up and she had splotches all over the skin by her mouth. She also said her throat was itchy ( she’s 3)I scrubbed her face and we hightailed it out to get Benadryl and head home. Thankfully her airway didn’t close and we avoided the ER. I’m traveling but tomorrow but will be calling our primary doctor for a referral to the allergist.
librarychica ugh I’m sorry about the lice! We dealt with lice for the first time last year. I freaked out and paid a service $1.55 per minute to treat DD and check the rest of us, then come back the next week for a re-check. It was so expensive! Now that I know how it works I’ll do it myself next time!

Every since my SIL called to tell me her kids had lice, I have been checking DD's head daily, with a flashlight. In church, she was itching her head. I spent most of the service looking down at her scalp, which I am sure the people behind me thought was a bit odd.
I have looked and looked. I have never seen lice, but from what I googled, I have seen nothing. Her hair is long and brown. I would see nits right? I have been over her head 3 times with a flashlight.
This is probably not even rational, since it has been almost 3 weeks since the cousins have been in. I really, really don't want the hassle of lice. I made them take jackets to put over the backs of the theater seats yesterday and then put the jackets in the trunk. Did I mention, I really, really hate lice.

I find the eggs pretty easy to spot now that I know what I’m looking for but the lice are harder to find. If you’re really concerned, go ahead and get a lice comb and check the crown, behind the ears and base of the neck. I will be doing daily checks (eventually weekly, then monthly) on DD1 for a while.
I am regretting notifying the teacher. The school nurse will check my daughter this morning and if they find one egg — treated or not, dead or not — they will send her home. I went over her head this AM and didn’t find anything but she has a TON of curly hair. Then I spent time putting it all up so that if I missed anything the chance of sharing it is low. She’s going to be so upset to be pulled out of class and I’m going to be irrationally pissed if they take all that hair down. This is why people lie.
Our school follows the American Pediatrics Association guidelines, so kids are not sent home. They are told no sharing of jackets, combs, hats, no touching heads or hair of others, etc. We haven’t had any lice yet. Knock on wood!
And yes, rere, you are being paranoid. But considering my head starts itching every time I read the word “lice”, I get it.
