I didn't have a lot to spend during the holidays and Teacher Appreciation Week, so I bought chocolates from the supermarket (Lindt and Gharadelli, around $10 a bag) and added $5 worth of scratch-off lotto tickets, and a handwritten note thanking them for taking such good care of DD.
If I'd had the budget, ditto the gift card or cash suggestion.

When we were in this situation last week with our center (DD1 attended from 12 weeks to almost 5), we catered lunch one day last week for the staff (not as $$$ as it might sound; given the number of staff it was pretty cost-effective). For other gift-giving occasions, we stuck with cash, gift cards and/or edible gift baskets. A lot of parents have also given framed picture collages of their kids at the center; I see many hung up in the building.
