I think it's safe to say I'm out this cycle. I go on Friday for my beta but I tested today at 12dpiui and negative. (it was negative at 10dpiui).
How did you guys decide when it was the right time to move onto IVF? Our RE who I like gave us a 5% chance of IUI working and I understand that but we still decided to try a cycle with it. He's ok with us doing a couple more IUI's but I'm wondering if we're just prolonging and spending more money. We have no insurance coverage so being completely self pay is incredibly tough when you're talking 11k for 1 cycle of IVF (plus another 6k for meds). I have enough letrazole at home to do 2 full cycles since a friend of mine gave me her unopened bottle but another cycle of IUI is about 2k.

I am so sorry.
I think I would move on to IVF to be honest. 5% is just so low and with IVF your chances will probably be closer to 50%. $11k is A LOT, but another $2k toward a 5% chance just seems like a lot. I see you're in VA. Have you considered going to Shady Grove for their shared risk program? It's still REALLY expensive, but at least for me I was able to say that at least it's guaranteed.

I am at Shady Grove already - their shared risk is about 28k and you have to pay the entire bill up front before starting which is a LOT. I am looking into CNY and was going to call to get a phone consult but they're booking out to April already.
I love the RE and nurse I have at SG which makes me hesitant to try CNY. I was planning on another appt with the RE (at SG) probably next week to see about options.

Gotcha. Yeah--the shared risk is crazy so I totally understand. I was having a lot of anxiety so we decided to go for it so it was a guarantee.
Turns out...we totally lost out on the whole thing because I conceived on the first cycle and had no frosties left. I hope they like my money.
With a 5% chance I too would go straight to IVF. I understand its a hard decision though (so much money!). I was actually relieved when our RE said we had no shot with IUIs and had to move directly to IVF. It took the decision out of our hands. Good luck next week; I hope you're able to come up with a plan you're happy with.

I'm sorry. I would move on to IVF, too. If you keep calling, CNY will move up your consult date. They weren't the practice I liked the best because it's so big it's a little impersonal, but they got the job done. And I paid about 10K including meds, monitoring, and my FET. So you could theoretically do multiple retrievals for the same price.
I would move on, too. We only had about a 10-15% chance of IUI working, and none of them did. We did 5. I do regret that we didn't move on sooner but my H needed to try everything else first. It was a bit of a mental thing for him.
There are programs to help with the cost. We used IVF Greenlight to help with medication costs (it is a reimbursement, so we got a check back). But there are others.

I am sorry. I think with 5% chance I would move on to IVF. You can also order your meds overseas (my sister did with her egg freezing which is like iVF without the transfer). She saved a lot of money that way.
You can also see if anyone around here has extra meds, its not uncommon for posters to donate leftovers. I know shauni27 was able to save a lot that way. I'm fortunate to live in a mandated state and for my current cycle was sent an obscene amount of Vivelle patches (estrodial). If that ends up being in your protocol and I don't need 4 FETs worth I'm happy to donate.
I'm sorry. We ended up moving on to IVF after just one timed and triggered clomid cycle and another IUI cycle. It just didn't makes sense to use up the insurance money (we have a $20K lifetime maximum for infertility coverage).
yes, if you do decide to do IVF there are some grants that can help cover medicine costs which we did and then we also got so much from the board. It literally saved us about 5K because everyone was so generous. But it is a big decision to make especially when it is out of pocket. If you want to PM me I can tell you how we made it work and what it was like (all OOP) and how we made the decision that we did.
