So far so good. I have a meeting for DS1 in regards to his Selective Mutism with his team of teachers Friday. Only concern for him is how he will manage Intro to Spanish when he doesn't speak to the teacher. He has accommodations in place but it's our first year with a foreign language.
DS2 is in 4th and he seems to like it. I heard some not so nice things about his teacher but I try not to listen to other parents much. Other than to keep an eye on things and ask the right questions I try to form my own opinions and keep an open mind. The parents complaining are also known complainers so....I also keep that in mind along with the fact, some kids and teachers don't mesh well.
My kid is just a good kid in general (rule follower, inclusive with others, good friend, hard worker). He tends to be a bit messy and disorganized and he will rush through his work but hoping time and maturity will help correct that too.
No real complaints. DD is a rule follower and people pleaser. This makes school pretty easy for her. She’s coming along with reading and still doing great with math.
We are about a month in and she’s getting settled. She still misses her 1st grade teacher but sees her all the time. She’s likes her 2nd grade teachers just fine. Only issues are social. She’s in class with her “best” friend who likes to exclude her and there is a boy in her classroom who is straight up mean. He has hit her twice already this year and tore her project on purpose. The teachers are handling it though so not much I can do.
We will see how the rest of the year goes! It’s not terrific but it’s not bad. It’s just kind of there.

So far so good!
DS (in SK) should have been in the same JK/SK room as he was last year, with the same teacher. Due to enrolment increases, though, he got bumped to a "new" class which is an SK/Grade 1 split, with a teacher that's new to the school. So far he seems to like it ok, but it's a bit of a bummer that just when he was looking forward to being one of the older ones (i.e. SK), he's now one of the younger ones again. Oh well, I think (hope) that will actually be a more challenging environment for him, in a good way, so we'll see.
The transition from the most caring, giving, involved 4th grade teacher to 5th grade where they are at the end of elementary school has been a transition for ME. DS is handling it fine, but it is the first time I haven't had a conversation with the teacher before school starts (he has multiple severe food allergies and allergy-induced asthma) or in the first week. She doesn't use a class app, didn't send a letter to the students over the summer, didn't even ask us to contact her with questions. I am not a helicopter parent, but laying this stuff out at the beginning is usually important to me! His teacher is old and old school! Preparing us parents for middle school for sure. Thankfully, at least with the allergy stuff, the nurse has gone over everything for me and has even prepared her for our adventure in Oral Immunotherapy that starts in a month.
So far it’s going great. We requested a interdistrict transfer at the end of last year. Our “home” school is not even a block away but we had all sorts of issues with my people pleading type a dd that the principal wasn’t interested in. Working with us on so we moved schools. We love the new school! Teacher is great! Principal is amazing!
