Hi! My name is Jennifer and I posted a picture of me and my daughter from the 4th of July this year. Back in 2010-2012, I was a part of a group on The Nest called NBC - Nest Book Club. I've often thought about how much I enjoyed that virtual book club and all the amazing recommendations I got from it. Since then, I've worked full time with little reading time, moved from Tampa, FL to Charlotte, NC began my family and now have my sweet daughter, and the Nest shut down their discussion boards. I happened upon this group from a link on Goodreads sent by a fellow member. I have to say I'm so excited to find many of the NBC ladies here still discussing book love. I'm a huge fan of historical fiction and recently read and really enjoyed The Alice Network by Kate Quinn. Do you have any other recommendations for me?
Hello! My historical fiction recs are: The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne (not a typical HF as it's definitely funny) The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah - set in France during WWII, really good Once We Were Brothers by Ronald Balson - part WWII HF/part modern day mystery book, really really good
We have a book club discussion on the last Wednesday of every month, a thread about the books we have read every Friday, and a thread about all the books we have read for a month on the first of the next month. Hope to 'see' you around!
My historical fiction recs are: A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towels (his other book, Rules of Civility is good too) Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi - this was my favorite read in 2017 All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
If you are open to historical non-fiction, I'd also recommend: The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand
