I need a bit of help. My mom and I have been to London the past two summers and were thinking about going again next summer (we missed a lot, esp. in the second trip since we were only there a total of 2 days before our tour). We want to do a single-city visit of a major city. We have been to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Glasgow. We are going to Rome in February. Where would you go? We will likely stay at a mid-range hotel and would like something walkable or a city with public transportation options. We both love art museums, viewing churches, and I like shopping. Also like historical sites. Help? (FWIW, my favorite of the cities I have visited was Amsterdam)
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

Another vote for Vienna. There are a couple of really great shopping areas, cathedral, churches, and crypts, and some very cool art museums (modern, ancient - Klimt's The Kiss is there)

I'm throwing my vote in for Vienna as well. I adore that city and will continue to go back as much as I can!

I really love Prague. Have been twice and would go again. Or Rome? Certainly plenty of historical sites - and shopping. I haven't been to Vienna yet though so can't compare to that.
Florence. Museums, churches and great shopping. Everything is walkable as well.
She is going to Florence in December with my hella flaky stepmother in law. (she has been before...but she knows now that this idea was clearly a mistake). Maybe next year on this one so she can have a better time!
