I recently decided to take my mom to Grand Teton/Yellowstone next year as a 60th birthday present. So. This is what I have planned loosely for now. And I have to make hotel reservations now because they book up so quickly.
Friday - arrive in Bozeman, drive to Jackson Lake Lodge in the Tetons, have dinner, relax, enjoy the view (getting a Mountain View cabin) Saturday - do Teton stuff, stay at JLL that night. Sunday - check out, drive to Yellowstone, see the southern part of the park, Old Faithful area, drive up to Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel (1.5 hours away from the Old Faithful area) stay the night there. Monday - explore Yellowstone, stay the night at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel Tuesday - explore Yellowstone, drive to Bozeman, stay the night (Mammoth is booked this night so we can’t stay there). Wednesday - fly home out of Bozeman.
Question is, should I switch the hotel Sunday night to the Old Faithful lodge so we don’t have to drive 1.5 hours to our hotel? The other lodges in the park are more than I want to spend, so it’s between these two.
Pro: Would give us a chance to see Old Faithful in the evening without as many people around. Would mean we could check in, drop off our stuff and maybe change and then head out to explore the park. Could stay in that area later before returning to the hotel.
