I don't usually go here, but hoping you might have some recs for me.
I'm looking for an eyeshadow duo or trio that is small and travel friendly. I have the Naked 1 palette and prefer the two mattes in there for daytime/work day, but I don't like to lug the whole palette on work travel. I have a Smashbox trio that I usually travel with, but haven't found a good matte one.
I've looked at UD Naked Basics, and the Tarte and Smashbox matte palettes, but I really don't want another palette for this purpose. TIA for any recs.
Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge. there aren't really a ton of duos and trios out there. NARS has some duos (or at least used to), but I think the quality is hit or miss.
Some brands have build-your-own options, which might work for you. That said, the size and cost, especially for the trios, isn't that much smaller than a small palette, like Naked Basics. I like Anastasia shadows a lot, and I know they sell single pans, but I'm not sure if they sell duo or trio holders for the single pans. I have a four pan palette, and it's clunkier than Naked Basics. I know MAC has duos and trios that you can build your own. MUFE definitely has build your own trios, and might have build your own duos.
For just mattes I’d get 4 of the ABH singles in one of their empty quad palettes. I really love their matte formula plus you can pick what you want. Otherwise Nars has duos but they’ve reformulated everything so I don’t know how the new ones compare to the old formula.
MUG singles might be on sale right now too. I saw that they’re rebranding and discontinuing most of their old shades. You could put 4 of those into the ABH quad for less than 4 ABH shadows. The empty quad is only like $1 on its own.

You might like the smaller Naked Basics and Naked Basics2. They are mostly matte.
I really like MAC shadows and you can build your own for those. I think their smallest palette is a four pan, but you could do less if you felt like it.
Chanel might have one, but I haven't tried their new quads to see what I think. MUFE has build your own palette options in a variety of sizes. I haven't tried a ton of their shadows, but the Artist shadows I have, I love.
Thank you for the suggestions! It looks like I can do MUFE artist shadows in a duo, trio, or quad, which is awesome. I am glad to hear you like them tiramisu. That would be ideal for travel. I might get the Naked Basics palette too for at home.
Clinique has some duos and quads too, but I have never felt like their shadows have enough pigment. Glad to have some other good options!

Glad I could help! Re: Naked Basics, are you thinking Naked Ultimate Basics? I ended up returning that one because I felt like overall it wasn't pigmented enough and too many looks ended up looking muddy with it.

Interesting. I was leaning more toward the smaller ones, probably Naked Basics. There are at least a couple colors in Naked Ultimate Basics that I don't see myself using. Trying to cut back on palettes like that. I'm also looking at the Smashbox Photo Matte Eyes travel palette, and the Laura Mercier Eye Art Artist's Palette, even though it's not all matte. I think I need to go browse at Sephora for a while, I just haven't had time.

Naked Basics is my go-to travel palette. The hard case makes it durable, and I can get a bunch of versatile looks with it. I don't feel like it takes up a bunch of space overall.
i have two of the other ones and use them for travel because they pack so many options in a really small case. i love soft lights and golden hour and have prism on my bday/xmas list.

This is a really nice matte palette and not very big, so good for travel. The shadows in this palette blend very nicely.
