Is this board (such as it is) any good for these? I can't remember but giving it a shot.
My fourth grader is my anxious kid. She is a strong reader, but she got really upset last year about a sad book at school and since then, has been reluctant to try new books. I don't want her to lose her strength in and enjoyment of reading.
Looking for recommendations for books for a fourth grader that aren't too baby-ish in reading level or theme, but yet also not too advanced (i.e. avoiding teenager/boyfriend drama stories), and that don't have anything sad in them! Good luck!
For reference, she likes My Weird School Ivy & Bean ---but I would like to see her pick up more challenging material now American Girl books Humphrey Hamster
She liked "Because of Winn Dixie," even though there if a reference to a character's brother dying (doesn't happen in the book). She liked "Trumpet of the Swan," and I just ordered "Wish" from her book order after verifying that the dog DOES NOT die.
Any other thoughts? Maybe a mystery series that isn't scary or gory? She doesn't seem to be quite ready for Nancy Drew, although I could give it another shot.
Does she like fantasy? The Upside-Down Magic series is really cute, and I also liked the Menagerie series by Tui and Kari Sutherland (one magical animal is presumed dead, but isn’t really — no magical creatures harmed!).
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

Just as a warning wish can be a bit sad. The girl has to go live with her aunt because her father is in jail and her mom is suffering from depression. It's a great book and the ending is uplifting but not a light read.
The heartwoid hotel series is great. Wild robot & wild robot escapes are fantastic. Flora & Ulysses. Tiny hero of fernycreek library. Granted Insignificant events in the life of a cactus
