Between B's first bday and the following Christmas, he got a Cozy Coupe, a PBK Anywhere Chair (except the Uglywhere knock-off), an Ikea kitchen, and a bunch of Green Toys cars/boats/etc. I'm sure there were other things, but these were all things he enjoyed at the time, and still enjoys at age 5.
Kid #2 will get his own Anywhere Chair, and then have been looking at some other fine motor skill toys, like the Melissa & Doug bug jar. It's hard to imagine getting him too much, as we have a ton of toys already.

I would ask for a 3 in 1 trike.
Things my almost two year old daughter still enjoys: mega blocks, her little arm chair, her leap frog laptop, kitchen (although she didn’t start getting in to that until about 18 months, Melissa and Doug cleaning set and ride on car for the house.

Following. DD turns 1 in 2 weeks and my mom is asking. We have limited space for big toys right now. My dad said he wants to get her some Fisher Price toys like the farm or dollhouse. He also was going to do a keyboard but she has one already.
blondemoment123 , kitkat1502 , so far I have a sit and scoot ride on toy, activity cube, some music station I'm sure I'll regret, bath toys, swing, suction plates and bowls, a larger sleep sack and lots of books. I will get him a lovey, not sure what else.
At 1, DD's favorite toys were her stand and play activity table and her walker. Basically anything that lit up and made noise. Oh! and a ball pit. We got a ton of use out of the ball pit.

These foldable and portable lawn/beach chairs have been so useful for parks, block parties, the beach, etc. My kids love having mini sized versions of adult chairs.
On top of what everyone else has said we also got S a combo ball pit/tunnel/tent thing that he loves. Together it is HUGE, but we kind of rotate. So 3 months with the ball pit out, then we put it away and pull out just the tent. Then 3 months from now we will pull out the tunnel. Repeat.
S also loves different balls (bouncy balls, etc) anything he can ride on or his race car he can push around.
I dont know what your tolerance level is for annoying toys, but this thing far surpasses mine! MIL has one and nephew loves that thing. Yankee Doodle has been stuck in our heads on numerous occasions. Needless to say I have a similar but non musical toy on his list
Any good books for this age group, or is there any gear we might need soon that I'm not aware of?
Snow gear? Suit/boots, etc?
Around 16 months or so my daughter started being way more gentle with books so we could pull out the non board books. I don’t have any great recommendations since she will listen to anything - right now she has me reading her a Ramona Quimby chapter book - but her attention span is definitely there for longer books.

We keep most of the musical toys on "off mode" at home (including that picnic basket I linked to). DD doesn't really seem to care about music and lights on her toys, but she really loves pressing buttons or anything that resembles a button.
If we wind up getting her the ride-on toy we'll likely just keep it in off mode or not even put batteries in it.
I actually found the same ride-on for half price on the Walmart website, and the one review noted that it's a rollback and the sound doesn't work. That's actually a bonus IMO! Cheaper AND quiet.

DD is 15 months. I need to go shopping this weekend to get her new fall/winter clothes. Up until now the majority of her wardrobe has been gifts, but the Free Clothes Gravy Train started to dry up around 9-12 months. She got a lot of 18 month stuff for her birthday but it's mostly summer stuff.
So I have on my list long-sleeved onesies, neutral pants and jeans, long-sleeved pajamas with feet, and she probably needs some larger socks as well.
I also just bought her more shoes, and we got her a nice fleece jacket from LL Bean and my sister bought her a jean jacket. I would also like to get a cheap fleece we can leave at daycare, that way if it winds up getting lost it's not a big deal.
DD's also going to need a thick winter coat, and probably boots as well. Another winter hat, mittens. So maybe that?
Maybe some drinking cups if you haven't yet found one you love, and different kinds of spoons so he can practice feeding himself.
Not sure if anyone else said a water table, but we would use ours even in the winter. Put it in the kitchen filled with snow even! Or you can fill it with sensory beads, dry pasta, whatever.
If he's into vehicles, the tonka dump truck. DS got his from my ILs for his first birthday and plays with it daily still 1.5 years later. I expect he'll play with it for another 2-3 years at least.
The boys got push toys (Vtech sit to stand walkers) and ride on toys (John Deere tractors) for their first birthday and they love them! My FIL also got them a great Step 2 wagon. They’re 15 months now and super into puzzles, shape sorter toys, and books. So many books.
Oh they also love their little house/play tunnel thing from Ikea. Takes up a fair amount of room, but it’s worth it for the amount of use it gets. Plus my cats love it too 🙄 lol
