What have you read this week? What are you currently reading?
QOTW If you could invent one simple thing to make your life easier, what would it be? (think practical or silly: like magically never having to straighten your curly hair ever again, or a pill that would let you eat unlimited pizza for 24 hours without gaining weight)
this week: I finally finished Fear by Bob Woodward, which has not been good for my stress level. I also read All We Ever Wanted by Emily Giffin, which was also not good for my stress levels given the current news. (I didn't think it was the worst thing ever, but I thought it was cheesy and predictable. I think it helped that people here told me how awful it was, so I went in with SUPER LOW expectations.)
I started firefly lane by Kristin Hannah but had to put it down because of a scene very early on.
So I don't know what I'm reading now ha. I guess I'm going to pick back up Still Waters by Vivica Stern (Sterm?) It was good but I kept putting it aside for others, so maybe I'll settle down with it this weekend.
I read When - The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing by Daniel Pink. It was short and somewhat interesting, 4 stars. I’ve just started reading Body of Work - Mediations on Mortality From the Human Anatomy Lab by Christine Montross, no opinion yet.
QOTW: Drying my hair always seems to suck up ten otherwise good minutes, so I almost always spend that time also reading.

This week I read Any Man. I seem to be picking books that turn out to be very relevant to what is currently in the news lately. This book is about sexual assault but the serial assailant is female.
I'm currently reading All Your Perfects and it's sort of dredging up some old pain so I'm moving pretty slowly on it.
QOTW: I hate that when I buy boneless skinless chicken breasts they always have like fat and veiny stuff on them that I have to trim off. I would like something to do that for me.

I started "Still Me", just haven't had a lot of time to read it yet.
QOTW: Something that would cook a healthy, delicious meal for me, something to dry my hair and make it look nice quickly, or really dreaming in the future, something like a Star Trek tube that I could tele-port right to where I needed to be no traffic no wasted time.

I finished And I Darken yesterday. It was odd, because there were times when I was just done with it, but also times I was completely compelled to keep reading. I ended up giving it 4 stars.
I'm listening to When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead. I think it was recommended to me and I put it on hold forever ago and it just came up. I'm in a weird place emotionally today and I tried to focus, but I couldn't and I put it away for now. I don't even know what it's about.
I'm also reading Dirty by Kylie Scott. It's fine and fast so at least there's that.
QOTW: YES on the hair thing. I have awkwardly curly (from my ears down) and wavy hair that's super fine. I straiten it every day and I hate spending the time.
Read: Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas 3.5 stars/historical romance I love seeing this genre feature 30something year old women, and this is one of the rare ones
Reignite by J.M. Darhower 2 stars/paranormal romance urban fiction This was really uninteresting compared to the first book in the duology
The Obelisk Gate by N.K. Jemisin 4 stars/fantasy Not much happens in this one, but I am so interested and invested in this series - it's so different!
Stormswept by Deborah Martin (aka Sabrina Jeffries) 3 stars/historical romance The audiobook narrator for this one is kind of awful. But even ignoring that, we just spend the whole book with the hero being a jerk and the heroine having the patience of a saint while also defending herself without much success.
Total so far for the year: 113
QOTW: I would want something that would do every step of my laundry for me - picking it up off the kids' floors and laundry baskets, washing/drying, and ironing/hanging/folding.
I’m reading Rich People Problems. I’m hate reading the whole series, lol.
QoTW: I NEED something that will pop out a healthy dinner in under 5 minutes with absolutely no work required on my part. Cooking and meal planning is the worst thing ever.
Never Let Me Go, Kazuo Ishiguro, my pick for my IRL book club.
The Death Class, Erika Hayasaki, for my non-fiction IRL book club (which I will be leaving once we have all picked and hosted once).
Dinner with Edward, Isabel Vincent, listening to this one.
Hopefully I will make it through one or more of these by Monday night (finding time to read over the weekend, plus on my afternoon flight).
QOTW: I read this somewhere once - but a machine that could replicate a favorite item of clothing in a different fabric/color. If I love something, I want it in multiples or with small adjustments (length of pants or sleeves) but the same "fit" overall.
Watching You by Lisa Jewell The Watsons Go to Birmingham—1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis Swim Back to Me by Ann Packer
I liked them all! Now I’m reading The Borrower by Rebecca Makkal. I read her second book this year and liked it so I was glad the library had this one. The main complaint I had about her last book was that it seemed like 2 books jammed together thanks to flipping back and forth between two different stories but this one seems more linear, thankfully.
QOTW: I’d love to have a magic wardrobe full of flattering clothes. I hate shopping and have a hard time finding clothes (I only wear dresses) that I like. TBH, I’d be happy with a dishwasher lol
Got halfway through "Pachinko" by Min Jin Lee before my e-copy expired. I may request it again, but maybe not. I didn't like it as much as I was going to.
Tonight, I plan on starting "Before We Were Yours" by Lisa Wingate.
QOTW: I like the idea of a pill that allowed me to eat whatever I wanted without gaining any weight and remain healthy in every way.
I’m still reading Under the Dome, I look forward to reading it daily but also dreading the outcome of the story. I started listening to My brilliant Friend. I haven’t decided whether to stick with it or not.
QOTW: a garage door that you can set a timer on in case you leave it open (this may already exist). This is at the forefront of my mind since a neighbor had someone come into her house in the middle of the night because the door was left open. I like many of other peoples ideas too
At first I was all about the automatic healthy dinner cooker posted above. Then I read the weight loss pill idea that keeps you thin after eating whatever, and now I want that! I also want a teleporter. There are so many places in the world I could see if it wasn't so expensive or time-consuming to go there!
I had to bring work home every night this week, which meant I barely read five pages of one book, and it is seriously affecting my mental health. I neeeed downtime with a good book.'

This week I’ve been working through Time’s Convert by Deborah Harkness. I loved the Discovery of Witches trilogy but I’m finding this book a little disappointing. The book explores the backstory of a side character from the original trilogy, but it’s hard to make it compelling when you already know where the characters end up.
I’d love something that could automatically refill my gas overnight while my car sits in the garage. I hate having to stop and fill up.

I'm savoring Time's Convert, partly because it's been tech/dress/show week and I've not had much time to read.
QOTW: I'd like something that could actually keep my pants up without being suspenders. Belts don't work, and stretch pants either slide down or roll when I bend. I just want my damn pants to stay where they belong!!
I finished The Glass Ocean by Williams / Willig / White, which started strong but lost steam in the last third. I ended up skimming just to finish and didn’t miss much. Just started Lethal White by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling). It’s considerably longer than the others in the series, which makes me worried that her editors aren’t editing anymore. I’ve only read a few pages but I do love these characters.
Qotw: I want to be able to temporarily add space to my house. Normally it’s the perfect size for us, but sometimes we have family over for dinner and could use extra space in the dining room, or like last night for DD’s sleepover, we could have used a den or extra TV room.
Me Before You (Jojo Moyes) was pretty good. I’d give it 3.5 stars. Also finally read The Great Alone (Kristin Hannah) and I loved it. 5 stars for sure. QOTW: I would love a magic pill that always refills whatever I need. My drink, my popcorn bowl, my bank account, the fridge, etc.
Whoa, I just realized since last Friday I finished 4 books! That's really unusual for me. They are
A Trick of the Light by Louise Penny (audiobook) - excellent like the rest of the series so far Lethal White by "Robert Galbraith" - also excellent like all of Rowling's other books Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by JK Rowling (aduibook re-read) - see above The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss - very good, but probably tempered a bit by my worry that I've gotten into a series that will never be ended. Also I couldn't help but view Kvothe as a bit of an arrogant bastard, even though I understand he didn't have an easy childhood.
While waiting for my next audiobook hold to come up I stumbled upon Julian Fellowes' Belgravia. He wrote Downton Abbey, so I figured I'd give it a try. It's interesting so far if you like that kind of story (historic British society).

I definitely didn't feel that way about it. I do think there's even more of the main characters' stories (compared to more of the mystery from the Cuckoo's Calling and the Silkworm), but I liked the way she developed and wove it all in. Hope you enjoy it!

I also gave up on this one, which is pretty unusual for me. I have now managed to forget why, though.

I felt the exact same way - lol. It ended with me compelled so I read the second one but never got around to the third.
i just finished White Hot by Ilona Andrews, which is the second in the series. I finally got around to it after a year or so and liked it enough to download the third....but it isn’t out yet!! Apparently other series are more popular so she’s focused on those. No wonder it was on kindle daily deal - lol.
QOTD: heavy things are falling down on me right now, and the book I just finished had a character with magic that made people fall in love with her saint-like (good for the short term; dangerous after too long). So I would like magic that made people take me fucking seriously. That’s all.

I think Wildfire came out last year. She's working on spinoffs I though, I think.
