So, my mom had boxes of papers in her house and I need to sort through them before shredding to make sure I don't get rid of anything important.
Well, I found of bunch of poems my dad wrote, most likely while on planes for business travel or in his office. This will sound silly, but it was crazy to see his hand writing. most of the poems dealt with either death (what waits for us) or kind of mid-life crisis stuff of being happy where you are in life, wanting some things to slow down so you can enjoy them. Some were about love and I just sincerely hope that he was thinking of my mom and not the tart he was with for three years. Anyway, I cried a bit. And I am so happy I found them. I am going to make copies and make small booklets for my sister and her boys and my girls too.
Oh and I found a bunch of cards that my Great-grandma received after he died (perhaps she taught at the school?) from students of hers and a detailed, typed list of all cards and calls on my grandparents side. Oh and the autopsy report which was a little hard.
One of the poems which was all about the coming and going of his life, I think, says something like and welcome kisses when home, welcome home hugs and children's voices asking "Where's my present" home again, home, home.
Maybe this is more bittersweet than cool. lol I don't know... when i find something of his or about him I love it. I love reading what he wrote as he was a gifted poet but also it is a glimpse into who he was, how he felt, etc.

That is very cool, I’m so happy you have those. You could pick a word and have a necklace or bracelet made of it in his handwriting. There are a few shops on Etsy that do that.
