mae0111, good for you! Could your DD play basketball in the town her new school is located in?
DD has figured out 3 of the 4 skills Coach A wanted by the end of the month. She showed them off to her after practice last night as they didn't have floor during practice and Coach A seemed happy with it and told DD that she had been working really hard and it showed. They also had a big pow-wow before practice got over and she explained why they were doing all the conditioning and that she wasn't mad at them just frustrated that they aren't progressing so that is why all the conditioning. It was extremely obvious that Head Team Coach J had talked with Coach A because her attitude was way different.
Basketball update - I asked the head of the league to refund DD1's registration fee. It's about $150, and I'd like to be able to put that toward another activity. I also asked where to return the equipment bag since I wasn't coaching. He responded immediately, asking why she wasn't going to play, that he hated to hear that I was pulling her.
I explained exactly what happened - that the directors didn't keep last year's team together as they promised, and that the team assembled would have resulted in a very negative experience for my daughter (without going into any details or naming names). I said that I had been misled about the process, and that I was heartbroken. I told him that I was on one of the first teams that ever played for the league, and that I was very much looking forward to coaching - teaching sportsmanship, etc. - and to watching my daughter develop her love for the sport.
I was as diplomatic as I could be while trying to get my point across, in hopes that I would get the $$ back (and also to show him who he had running things in that division). I doubt he'll care about the people in place, but maybe my plea will get me a refund...
DD1 (10) was asked to move up to the highest practice level on her swim team. This is such a big accomplishment for her, and she is so excited! And, selfishly, this makes me life so much easier - the practice times are much more convenient. So she will be going from swimming 2 hours a night, 5 days a week to 3 hours each night. Here is to having one very hungry and tired girl when she gets home!
DD2 (6) gets to move up to level 2 in gymnastics! We started classes this summer because it was next on her list of things she wanted to try and it just clicked with her. She seems to be somewhat of a natural and she can learn the skills they teach her pretty quickly. I don't know much about gymnastics so we are learning it as we go, but level three is team (or preteam?) and she REALLY wants to get there!
I am just so proud of the two of them for finding something they love and committing to improving at it!

DS made the B-team for the travel basketball team he tried out for last week. DH and I were expecting him to make the B team, and we're actually happy about it because his best friend is also on that team (and another of his friends is on the team and that friend's dad is coaching, and he's good coach), but we were a little surprised to see he was at the bottom of the roster. DH watched the tryouts and didn't think he would've been at the bottom, but maybe he was...or maybe the guy in charge wasn't happy that we didn't sign DS up for a team through community services as well, and maybe some small-town politics too. We just wanted to give DS a break between football and basketball so we didn't sign him up for community services.
What do you all do about activities that start early? My neighbor tried our town dance studio and didn't care for it. I would like to do the park district as it is so much cheaper like $64 a semester plus cost of costume and recital versus $500 for the year costume and recital included except tickets.
DD dances all over the house, and really wants to try dance. The problem is when I did dance I was totally bored with young ballet type classes. It was too slow and the kids too young for me. I think it might be the same for her. Park District only offers ballet and tap at this age no jazz and it is at 4:45pm. so I would have to leave work early 1 day a week which I try to avoid for extra curriculars. 4-6 so she would be the oldest which I don't think she would like.
My H has a friend that teaches at another studio (10 minute drive) so it seems recommended. No pricing online. But it is again at 4:45 or a Sat at 11 class. This is intro to dance so more of a jazz and hip hop type class. 5-7 so older kids.
Or A hip hop tumbling class downtown (upbeat music which I was looking for like pop music I guess) Wed 5:15 or Thurs 6:15. This one is looking like more of a winner. Neighbor thought the studio was "too much" but could have not had the experience with dance that I have had to have the correct expectation. I don't think her daughter cared for it either but daughter is more on the shy side and doesn't dance around the house (as far as I know) like DD does. I think she did the ballet, tap, jazz combo class which would be more shoes etc than the hip hop tumbling.

Tell me what to do wise WP.
Reach out to friends and neighbors and carpool! We do it a lot for swimming. Thankfully several of our neighbors have kids on the swim team, and we just created a group chat and every day we just volunteer for one of the three waves of drops off/picks up. My oldest just moved up a level which means she now has to practice immediately after school, but not at her school. So thankfully between my DH and one of the neighbors we will be able to take turns picking her and a friend up each day from school. I can't imagine how we would work all this out without the car pool.
So Awesome Coach texted me last night and said, "Hey - are you coaching? I just found out that my daughter's coach is X and not you. What happened?" I told him what happened - they blew up last year's team and gave me all the mean kids that no one wanted to coach, and that I resigned shortly thereafter. He absolutely unloaded about the director - that he'd been coaching soccer with him, he's awful, screams at the kids, screams at the teenaged refs (and was always wrong), that he and his wife are trying to take over all the sports in the town. He said he knew that the director screwed me, and that he was going to text him and find out what happened.
He sent me the rosters from last year. Every team was kept together except for mine. They took the nice kids from my team and distributed them, and pulled mean kids off of each team and gave them to me. It was what I suspected based on how I remembered the teams from last year, but now I had it in writing!
I felt vindicated! Someone else acknowledged what happened! I had proof!!!
So I texted Awesome Coach tonight and asked what the director said. Awesome Coach totally backtracked. Said Director didn't do it on purpose... he was totally overwhelmed... too many coach and parent requests... all utter horse sh!t. So I'm back to being totally disappointed. I thought Awesome Coach was a stand up guy. Nope.
I feel like I have literally not one person on my side in this town. I very much want to move. DH is not on board.
186momx, I am not sure? I'll have to check once I hear back on what DH wants to do. His friend's wife teaches at one, but honestly besides it is recommended by someone I know is not a reason to have to go to a certain studio.

Anyone have a kid that has ever played futsal in the winter? DD's soccer is hit and miss but we are considering it. Other than indoor shoes and a heavier ball, is there anything else we would need to buy?
Futsal is awesome. DD is super short so the smaller field and indoor really helps her. The only other big difference is kick ins and substitutions on the fly. DD’s team isn’t playing winter indoor so she’s doing volleyball clinics and checking with friends for futsal. Equipment side, indoor shoes work for futsal too. DD always gets boys indoor shoes as they have a better selection.
